It's interesting to compare this to her 1990 clip with Mehta conducting. The voice had much more freshness and ping to it than in the present clip where you can hear a threadiness and tightness developing.
June Anderson and Mariella Devia are the two greatest sopranos singing today. But they aren't stars like Netrebko and Dessay. Opera has turned into a Hollywoodland where good looks are favored over talent. It's really sad.
@jmuslvr Netrebko and Damrau are stars. Dessay is/was a talented actress and was a singer. Shame that her voice is screwed up. I had to say it because her artistic value is bigger than Damrau. Of course, none of them all gets it to Anderson's leg.
lumpy: you won't get any argument from me on that! if you can't get enough, there are several other performance of this aria by june on youtube you should check out -- my personal favorites are the 1987 performance in Paris, and the 1990 New Years eve performance.
I have sat in a couple places with June Anderson shaking my entire being while exucuting perfectly this aria. Almost on top of her, or in the balcony, your scalp will tingle when her voice ripples the air like thunder. Eccentric or not, she is one of the best, ever.
June is handling her business as usual! It's interesting to see how her voice has filled out over time. Her runs are accurate and expressive as always. Good for you, June!

@jmuslvr Devia should stopped singing 15 years ago, she has no voice(agility) or age to continue on stage, same way with Gruberova.

Anyone who can summon that much squillo and resonance in Avery Fisher Hall is pretty damn amazing (an of course, she is).

Not bad at all. She sounds a bit winded and it's definitely taken faster than the other versions, but June is AWESOME as always.

Ah, I just realised it wasn't Antinori - my mistake.

That is Marcello Giordani. I like him a lot. He was wonderful this season in Simon Boccanegra.

Nice one Nick, June as usual; magnificent. I couldn't place the tenor, was it Antinori?
