  • White people are so ridiculous sometimes.... Who cares? Lol

  • Why is there no video of Charlie Rich burning John Denvers award?

  • everything about the 70's was so different. the award shows, the music, the clothes, the hair. makes me feel old.

  • Don't know how some folks don't consider John a country artist(he always said his music was more "western" than "country") when we have such a fine representative like Taylor Swift! Yikes, she's about as country as white bread. John Denver was such a talent.

  • Having never truly liked country, I can honestly say he was my inspiration to learn how to play guitar, ‘Country Roads’ being the first piece I ever learned. And I actually get quite upset when I think about how unfairly he was treated by his peers simply because they didn’t want to share the spotlight.

  • @Preirin Thank you for your comments. You are always welcome.

  • What happened to John... the humiliation he must have felt when Charlie Rich, old and spiteful as he was, burned the envelope. Denver may not have been a ‘Country and Western” star, as some have claimed… and that may be accurate. And if so, a good thing – as what happened to country music throughout the 80’s and 90’s was an abomination. It’s only recently that we’re seeing true talent and good music emerge in the genre again.

  • @Preirin Thankfully,JD was on tour in Australia,& accepted his award via satellite. He didn't see Charlie do it at the time.Charlie's son has a website where he says it was a joke that went wrong & he did try to visit JD in Aspen & apologize but JD was on tour.I have no doubt that JD would have forgiven him & not dwelt on it. John's star pretty much eclipsed Charlie's by then so I doubt it bothered him too much.ONJ ,being Australian got similar nastiness from Nashville for her nomination in '74.

  • It's definitely open for debate that John Denver was a country artist, and as much as I love his music and God bless him, he was a great songwriter, but there's no question either Merle Haggard or Charlie Rich(R.I.P.) deserved the Best Male Country Vocalist award 10 times more.

  • Just popped in to see this again. It's sweet how basically softspoken John actually is.And no wonder he got depressed later on. it must have been hard to go from being THE biggest pop star in the world to disappearing off the radio.Nobody can maintain that level of stardom, but the drop must have been hard.At least he didn't live to see all his money disappear in the Bernie Madoff scandal.I don't think his poor weary heart could have taken it after everything else.Man,he deserved better.

  • @blackwhimsy Thank you for your kind comments. You are always welcome.

  • @blackwhimsy Number one,no artist is on the top of the charts forever and number two,the AMA"s have always been a glorified popularity contest anyway. With that said,John Denver(R.I.P.)sure did have a hard time coping with the fast descend.

  • I get to see Robbie October 23rd in Va Beach with the Mockers, Can't wait!

  • karen carpenter looking good

  • Such a funny video. You should put Robbie Rich/ cousin Oliver in the video tags. i've told a few Brady fans to look at this vi. Too cute!

  • @blackwhimsy Thank you. Your comments are appreciated.

  • How ironic that Charlie Rich was in the same categories for nominations as John Denver when just mere months later,he set the ballot on fire at the CMAs when he discovered that John Denver won the 1975 CMA Entertainer Of The Year.Mind you,John Denver was not present and the technology was such at the time that John Denver could only hear and not see it.

  • @landrykkb and 12 months later both Rich and Denver were pretty much finished.

Waylon, Willie, and Kenny came right on in...

  • @RockinEd neither one was dominating the country charts as in the years previous to these AMAs,but they still kept going steadily.

  • IT'S COUSIN OLIVER!!

  • Thanks for uploading this video. I've been looking for videos of John Denver at country music shows for years.

  • @hermitcrab8518 My pleasure.

  • Such fun to relive this! Routine with Robbie Rist was so cute. And, of course, it was so great to see John win over Charlie Rich! That tux, though, holy mackerel, can you believe what we wore back then!

  • This was so much fun to watch...maries Osmond's hair cracks me up....John is so sincere...loved it...thank you

  • @jdstillshines Thank you for your comment. Do yopu know anything about this event?

  • @michaeldonegan

This was the 3rd annual American Music Awards which took place on January 31, 1976. This show originally aired on ABC and it ran for 120 minutes. John Denver was awarded the Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist Award and the Favorite Country Male Artist Award. Also, his Back Home Again album won the Favorite Country Album Award. Thanks for asking!!!

  • @jdstillshines Thjank you for your quick response to my question. Your help is much appreciated.

  • @michaeldonegan

My pleasure! As a side note, The American Music Awards was created by Dick Clark in 1973 as an alternative to the Grammy Awards. It was a night of live entertainment and tickets were available to the general public but the seats were costly and the money raised would go to a charity, The National Music Foundation.

  • @jdstillshines Thank you again!

  • @jdstillshines there are some nice stills of this in James M Martin's Rocky Mountain Wonderboy(probably the best bio of John written during his peak years of fame). So nice to see the actual footage.Hurray for JD fans who record EVERYTHING! And Michael,I do appreciate everything u do for the JD fandom here.

  • @jdstillshines Thank you.
