  • Holy shit!!! I don't even want to live in a world where these guys aren't A-list famous!

  • 01:11 - The Church And The Dime

    06:27 The Bitter Suite 1

    10:55 The Procession

15:53 The Inquiry Of Ms. Terri

    20:43 Sick ass guitar solo

22:28 The Pimp And The Priest

  • fresh. that'll do it, then i'll press like.

  • 'Kay, so I just came at that solo. Holy shit. I came SO many buckets.

  • Holy shit Casey's got some pipes

  • dude i was at the show at the madhatter! how crazy this place is like down the street from it.

  • Wow... I really don't think Eric gets to show off as much as he should be able to on the actual recordings. haha

  • this video is amazing. thanks for posting it. i've only gotten to see them once live, and this video helps recapture every moment of it. you rock.

  • You sir are a god for uploading this.

Also if you shot it good job. The camera work and the crowd douching it up and chatting away made this so much better.

  • @AMFFBand thanks dude. i did, standing on top of a bar stool. after seeing the set night after night, i kinda/sorta knew where to film and what i wanted it to look like --and of course they knocked it out of the park.

  • I watched these guys play with foxy shazam once back in the day. it was perfect

  • Once in a lifetime. Wish I could have been there.

  • I can't believe there is a dispute over the mars volta and the dear hunter. Both bands are magnificent.

This video fucking wrecks, I can't wait for the colour spectrum.

  • oh man. The ending was the best part. The transitiong into 'I want you(she;s so heavy) was soooo sick. I wish they would come up to vancouver to play.

  • perfect transitions between songs.

  • ....my brains are on the wall. I was warned.

  • not like pink floyd or mars volta. just their own pop progressive with trippy interludes. being a huge volta fan it easy to get into Dear Hunter....but this concert puts all their albums to shame...why does the guitarist rarely solo on albums or even during the show? love all the effects and ambiance

  • LH click on 22:20

  • They need to release a live dvd

  • Greatest. Ending. Ever.

  • One of the best bands around, although I do prefer The Receiving End Of Sirens because it speaks to my heavier side, but yeah an absolutely astounding band, I just pray some UK dates are in order!!!!!

  • Whats the beginning song called?

  • @MurderOnDancefloor The Church and the Dime

  • holy gdamn fuc i luv them

  • cant wait to see them with circa in august!!!

ill be at both ohio shows!!!! :)

  • Damn he has a voice.

  • this was when they payed at the madison theater with saves the day and say anything wasn't it? i was there! amazing! This show was the first time i'd ever heard of them which turned me on to them and i've been listening ever since!

  • 20:43

    (for a timestamp)

  • Wow Casey's singing has improved a lot since then.

  • fuck, these guys must go to holland ...

  • Fuck you dude

  • @brassrock212 i saw deerhunter live on conan. i stayed up just to watch the musical guests because i heard the dear hunter was playing. when that ridiculous hippee crap came on in stead. their music made me shit my own dick. go fuck yourself and your taste in music.

  • @7Bullgatch7 You must live under a rock man. Seriously, you can't even compare deerhunter to The dear hunter. For one, Deerhunter actually creates GOOD music and is really breaking through in their own genre. I don't see the dear hunter playing at ATP, SXSW or any actually good festivals . This band can be compared to Yellowcard. And how does one shit their own dick? Your dick must be up your ass and that can obviously be caused by fucking yourself. Oh, and it's "instead" not "in stead."

  • @brassrock212 You're right. You can't compare them. They're both completely different bands that cater to completely different tastes, but if you want to split hairs, I'll say that crossover-prog requires much more technical proficiency than indie-shoegazing, and The Dear Hunter is -- according to ProgArchives -- among the best in their genre, along with bands like Dredg and Radiohead, so It's safe to say they don't suck. For correlating popularity and quality, though, YOU do. Big hairy ones.

  • What a lamesauce crowd...I'D BE GOING FREAKING INSANE RIGHT ABOUT NOW!

    The Dear Hunter rule all!

  • He didn't say that Say Anything was up last did he?

  • Thankkkkkkkkk youuuuuuuuuuuuu sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :D

  • Holy fucking balls.

  • Amazing <3

  • Love it...

    Is that omar rodriguez???

    lol

    looks like him!!!!!!!!

  • it does! and he has the same hand motions as omar but the distinct characteristic about omar is that he is a left hand guitarist

  • have you guys seen the new video for What It Means to Be Alone? it is amazingly done!

  • yes!

shame its nowhere to be found on youtube

  • This is amazing.... I went to The Dear Hunter playing with Coheed and Cambria and I felt that it was such a bad venue and there was also such a small time allotted that it was no where near as good as this. I still love The Dear Hunter, but the most recent time I've seen them live was the worst they've played.

  • what is this setlist?

  • The Church and the Dime

Bitter Suite I: Meeting Ms. Leading

    The Procession

    The Inquiry of Ms. Terri

    The Pimp and the Priest

--> I Want You (She's So Heavy) outro

  • Jaw is on the floor..

  • oh my god 20:43 it's Jimi Hendrix reincarnated!

  • Way good.. reminded me of some Warren Haynes jam.

  • Act I is the best, imo... Although sometimes I do also just consider them all equal in greatness.

  • man...... the way they transition from one song to another........... amazing......

  • freakin' amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • What a boring awful audience... these guys are amazing and they're motionless. Do these people still remember how to emote?

  • God holy shit. Ive really never heard of a better band and you are right it is humbling watching casey. This guy is just brilliant.

  • may i say nothing at all, i am humbled

  • saw them a few nights ago with me withoutyou. i had never heard of them and i was amazed. there live show was so spectacular i can hardly listen to the music because its not as good not live!

  • they are so sick...

  • casey is such a fucking beast Im so happy he was born he makes such great music with these guys

  • I wish everyone who wants to make a band would watch this... and see how music is suppose to sound.

  • Damn I haven't watched this video in a looong time. Great set, especially the end. There are so few bands right now that could cover the vocals in that song. And the solo is so nice.

Also, the song is called I Want You (She's So Heavy).

  • i watch this once a month. what a band

  • ugh i've watched this video so much

    gets better each time

    <3

  • i agreeeeeeeeeeee

  • when they play "shes so heavy" at the end, my head freaking explodes...not everyone can play the beatles like that

  • This band has no resemblance to the mars volta.

  • nobody has any real resemblance to the mars volta, they're too unique. but i knew why this band was a similar artist when i heard City Escape. The two bands have similar composing styles i think.

  • That isn't a composing style. That's the universal sound of damn good music.

  • lol sure that is a factor as well.

  • seeing as how their music tells a story i think they should really do a musical or play or something like that it would be amazing

  • agreed, which is funny cuz i don't like many musicals, if any

  • The music more than tells a story. It is, in all senses, a rock opera. It is a play, but you're only hearing the audio. Their website does a good job of tying it all together.

  • Too bad they're not coming to Omaha. I need to drive all the way to Kansas just to see them. At least I know it will be worth it now :D

  • they are going on tour soon for anyone interested, ill be seeing them on july 5th at the metro in chicago, i cant wait to see them live at the metro again

  • i'll be there too!

  • awesome dude, its going to be amazing to see them again, especially on tour for Act III

  • they were great act 3 is filled with some awesome songs. at least fromwhat they played i was amazed

  • You should get the album, like, right now! Cause ACT III is the best album! (by far even! Trust me on this one!)

  • Agreed. Act III is easily my favorite one. What it means to be alone, such a beautiful song!

  • shut the fuck up dude

  • haha what? :D How did I offend you?

  • You dont see them bending down to touch their pedals because they are PEDALS FOR YOUR FOOT..they have have different presets that you program in before hand..you re re

  • noob question. the wosh noise type thing they do in the background of some of their songs such as the city escape and the procession. what is that. i cant se it being delay tweaking as i dont see any of them bending over to touch their pedals

  • This is probably the best video of the Dear Hunter live. Not only is it long, great, GREAT quality, has awesome things that they don't do in their recorded versions, but it shows how truly amazing they are live, as much so as they are on their recordings. They're so good it's ridiculous

  • long live the dear hunter.

    casey is my hero

  • Fantasy concert: The Mars Volta, Portugal. The Man, The Dear Hunter.

  • what is their opening song?

  • The Church and the Dime.

  • the church and the dime

  • just watched the whole video straight through. sucks it had to be such a short set! but at least they MURDERED IT.

oh, and you were NOT lying about the 20:43. epic as fuuuuuck

  • amazing band

  • Did he say that Say Anything was playing next? I would've KILLED to be there, wow....

  • only two words can describe this video............FUCKING EPIC!!!!!!!

  • indeed epic, saw these guys at the loft in Poughkeepsie, last summer was good. I love the way they open up with the church and the dime.

  • casey is amazing

  • that solo was badass...proof that Casey always works with people who are truly a master of their craft

  • omg!!! this band is the real deal!!!

i just found out about them!

    fuckin amazing!!!!

    they have saved music! =)

    thank god for them!

  • the last minute is incredible.

  • This bad is epic. Thanks for this upload.

  • band*

    lmao

  • ditto

  • i saw these guys with The fall of troy, in Lawrence Kansas. They are amazing. everyone buy there music and go see them.!!!!

  • I know a lot of people compare them to the mars volta, but honestly, they remind me more of pink floyd. does anyone else hear it?

  • just to add to the mix, total neutral comment... i hear a lot of the beach boys.

    coffee talk... discuss...

  • Funny you say that, I always saw Casey as a new-age bad ass Brian Wilson

  • I'm on board with Pink Floyd. The beach boys... not so much.

I'd also probably steer clear of The Mars Volta. The Dear Hunter's music has a totally different energy.

God damn, there is SO much good music out there!

  • stray towards the mars volta if you know what's good for you.

  • nah mars volta isnt that cool to be honest. its just them trying to be too technical and pretentious. theres no meaning behind the mars volta. theres meaning behind the dear hunter

  • I agree. It seems to me that the mars volta is a bunch of noise packed together. The dear hunter has more going on in each song and it is also mixed together better. You hear the parts that are the most important, best. The dear hunter is elegance, the mars volta is crude.

  • @pianofight the heavy vocal orchestration and odd instrumental textures remind me of ELO.

  • @pianofight solid coffee talk reference... talk amongst yourselves...

  • @anonmsanon any band that does music that is experimental and even somewhat psychedellic will sound a bit like pink floyd so yeah I agree. But I agree they have a bit of volta to them also. Either way their music is very much their own and I am happy about that.

  • @anonmsanon NOTHING like volta. jut sayin.

  • @chickenluva1 Not like volta but people that like Volta I think can warm up to the Dear Hunter easily.

  • @ajanderso Good way of putting it.

  • @ajanderso But they do the crazy improv stuff only on live sets. I want to hear their guitarist go wild on the albums too. It's like listening to a charging giraffe on PCP :o

  • Comment removed

  • Dude! I love Iron Maiden! jk. The Dear Hunter is so amaZING live and just in general! Act III is coming early 2009--Can't wait!

  • Did anyone notice that they go into she's so heavy by the beatles during the pimp and the priest?

  • This is amazing!

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE DRUMMER IS USING IN THE BEGINNING ARE THOSE TIMPANI MALLETS OR JUsT REGULAR MALLETS MY FRIEND AND I ARE INA HEATED DEBATE OVER THIS SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT U THING

  • damn that transition to The Bitter Suite was sick, lol

God this guys are kickassssss :)

  • I like how they can just the Beatles and do a fantastic job of it.

  • I don't know why I got thumbs down, what I meant by that was that whenever they cover the Beatles, its actually good. Unlike most other bands that try.

  • i discovered these guys 3 days ago, and i haven't stopped listening since..

  • Holy shit man, my head did explode, a great concert to remember. Almost better than TREOS at Harper's Ferry...

  • post-rock-indie-experimental-psiko-core?¿?¿?

    xDDDDDD

    DID YOU HATE GENRES?¿¿?

  • I love the way this is filmed.

  • These guys will go far. Great music. Heard them first on Pandora. Would fly to see them live.

  • ah i cant believe i was there

  • The Dear Hunter is so amazing.

They played a really fucking gnawrly, extended show in Boston, and the crowd was perfect. The room was small and the sound was really good. It makes me melt thinking of it.

  • did they get a new drummer since this video cause i saw them in may with foxy shazam and TFOT and i think their drummer looked different

  • yes, the drummer in this vid was sammy dent. his brother luke dent is the keyboardist here.

the new drummer is now casey's brother, Nick Crescenzo

  • Anyone know what guitar Casey has?

  • schecter ultra III

  • Then you have very dumb ears. I love TMV and I love The Dear hunter but they sound nothing alike. They are both prog rock but it doesnt mean they sound alike

  • seriously... i've heard that before, and i still don't understand it. i listen to both quite extensively, and i can tell you that they really are not very similar at all. and the dear hunter definitely does not copy the mars volta. to me, the mars volta is pure chaos brilliantly pieced together to make incredible songs. the dear hunter is far from chaotic. still brilliant, but not chaotic.

  • they do remind me of the volta, i agree with you on that. However, its definitely not a "copy cat" resemblance. Dear hunter seems to go for a more chill and ambient sound. THe volta is near complete chaos, but they still make it a masterpiece. Plus, the drummers are quite different. Thomas Pridgen is in a world of his own when it comes to drumming.

  • could anyone please put up the song list?

    great gig.

  • The Church And The Dime

The Bitter Suite 1 and 2 (they cut out 2)

    The Procession

    The Inquiry of Ms. Terri

    The Pimp and the Priest

  • thanks =]

  • the bitter suite 2 shows up at the end of the set.

    as does "she's so heavy"

  • I found this band because of Fandom Wank, and I have to say they deserve the crazy devotion afforded them. +fav

  • woah a full set? good job dude

  • ugh, i want to see them live so badly.

  • i want to see them like mad

  • This video is crazy.... they're so good live... i cant wait to see them again.

  • this band rocks

  • Not bad at all, and that's coming from someone who is hyper-critical.

Come to Sweden, TDH! Or anywhere else in Europe - I'll make the trip.

  • so sick

  • I could stand through an entire show of just this band playing all of their material in order.

  • This band is awesome, and that solo was fucking crazy.

  • That was badass.

  • if jesus ever came back it would definitely be as casey

  • they definitely broke up. they have 2 more shows left and that's the end of TREOS

  • so how are they about to go on a tour with fall of troy..?

  • ok i lied i thought u were talking about TDH

  • wow what a way to open....if casey came out and did planning a prison break at bamboozle w/ treos (beccuz its there last show) id break down in the crowd

  • the dear hunter. probably the best musical experience out there on tour.

  • Thank you so much for this. Unbelievable.

  • Hey does anyone know what type of keyboards they are using i know casey uses an elctric piano but what else are they using

  • they use rhodes pianos, and miscellaneous synthesizers.

mianly the one you'll see casey playing is a multi-interface rhode, with organs and such settings as well.

  • thanks

  • i love the pimp and the priest

  • guys sorry but i m a new fan of TDH...who r TREOS that u keep talkin about?and what do they have to do with dear hunter?

  • they're The Receiving End of Sirens. Casey was original one of the three singers, one of the three guitarists and did the programming too, i think - call me on it if i'm wrong. he can be heard throughout their first full-length: Between the Heart and the Synapse.

he got into a bad patch and left the band.

  • people must have gotten suprised by the opener

  • the dear hunter has strengths where receiving end has weaknesses, and vice versa. TREOS could provide some amazingly concise, four minute epics, and when multiple tracks are combined in a long player format, the sum is an epic and masterful piece of music. TDH is a little more verbose but just as passionate.

what we need is a tour with both groups at once.

  • except treos broke up lol

  • ya we know

  • i dont think they broke up..............

  • yeah i just seen them play a couple days ago and they were awesome, so their not broken up!!!

  • sorry, i just saw them play for the last time at bamboozle and casey came on the stage and played with them for the last 2 songs

  • no you didn't see them play for the last time. I saw them on Tuesday night at Toad's Place.

  • man that is a rad solo at the 20 minute mark. as for the casey/treos deal, i think we all ought to sit back and enjoy the music from both offerings instead of trying to decide which is better.
