Japanese had better bows (yumi) back in those times- tested

Japanese had better swords (katana) back in those times- tested

And for the bow, the yumi are for the MORE powerfull 60 lbs, longbow can be more than 120 lbs.

Real katana is so hard, it can take bullet from 9mm, so fencing sword is not going to do any damage to real original katana. Fencing swords weight is only negative effect

If you put same weight arrow in yumi bow- it will fire greater distance.Put heavier arrow-same distance only more powerfull

That video is no where near a good quality. For example, here we have two videos with /faster/ usage than in the video you showed, and no where near the same amount of force;

I got a 6ft stave of yew which Ive now got roughly shaped. When I started, I looked at the straightest line i could see in the piece, and went with that, but now im getting down to the last stages of shaping, its kinda kicked out and top and bottom out to the right of the bow if you know what I mean. Apart from trimming a bit and making a much shorter bow out of it, is there any way to rescue it? The last time I did this, i was about 10 yo, and my granadad helped. A lot.

@MartinRVUK do you mean its gone propeller shaped ,if one limb pulls to the left or the right take wood off the opposite side of the bend because the wood will always pull to the weaker side carefull not to take off too much if its really bad and your bow is getting thin just leave it,

if you want a natural material the most common is linen or hemp. if you dont care you could use dacron or fastflite, be careful with fastflite thoug... not all bows like it

@brendanoconn Bow string. Sorry that sounds as if I am trying to take the piss. But, bow string is a type of fine cored. Hoarse hair and silk are two more both expensive. Also hemp but that is a sod to work with. If its a kids toy bow try picture farm cored.
