I saw donovan sing this live at i believe the Rainbow theatre about 1969 it was stunning a far better than this over produced version. what on earth is Harold Mcnaire trying to do on the flute! and what possesed Donovadn to over dub himself on a simple folk song? Its a great little song but this version does not do it justice.
@MrFoxhunter123456 I agree. I was born in '83, my mother used to play me a tape as a child which as far as I know was of Donovan singing various childrens songs. This was one of them. The version on my tape was much better, but the tape is now battered and bruised and the sound quality is awful. I digitised it some years ago but it was too late to save it. I would love to get a good version but I don't even know what it came from :( I could post it up if you're interested...
@fluxfeld I sang a couple off this album for my eldest granddaughter years ago, and sometimes at gigs with my trio. So great to hear this stuff again!!
I used t listen to my album, when I turned to "side 2" I would put a little past the baby crying. I would listen to the flute especially, such a soothing album.
Such a lovely song. His voice is beautiful. As wonderful as the first disc is, the second is definitely my favourite. It's cool to listen to it again now, and find certain songs that my dad would play for me when I was little.
Thanks for posting,I've tried to find this before but had forgotten the name of it,no wonder its been many years since I heard it and was more then likely "zonked",old 60's word lol
I dont think there is anything by him that bad. Every song has its place.
