Just out of interest, were you required to pay to take these photographs and not ride on the train? I visited the Foxfield last year and walked much of the line, however when I arrived at the colliery I was told I needed to pay in order to look around, despite the fact that I did not want to ride the trains on the gala weekend. I was not the only one who felt a bit 'put out' by this, as i only planned to stay for 30 mins tops at the colliery and didnt want to pay £17 for the privelidge.
@LateNeverEarlyR Whenever I journey to Foxfield, I always tend to ride on the trains, therefore get free entry to the colliery site etc. But on the occasion when I haven't ridden the trains, just buying a timetable/programme from the officials at the colliery is what I normally do...just to 'give' something back for the spectacular privilege, which is never a problem for me or the railway as far is i'm aware. Hope that helps
@SteamTeen Hi, thanks for the reply - that was exactly what I wanted to do. I would have quite happily given a donation to look around the colliery, or even to have bought something (as you mentioned), however the way that it was put across to me when I visited was that I needed to buy a full adult ticket (in order to obtain a sticker) even though I had no intention of riding on the trains.
@LateNeverEarlyR No worries at all...hopefully your next visit will be more to what I described lol :P I think just to explain your situation next time should get you the sticker for the price of a program - worth a try anyway
