  • I remember having this for the Spectrum, but despite good graphics and opening level music, I could not stomach the rotation system.

Once I got to play the original arcade version(and Megadrive one too!) I wrote my own Foggy worlds style game. The two rotation buttons turned the whole game around and really wanted more! Alas no sequel so I wrote one...

  • beat this game with my friend long time ago, loved it, but it was hard as tits!

  • Looks pretty good graphically.

  • The problem is that targeting on C64 version is completely shitty comparing to arcade original. And there are mediocre sounds instead of some nice music...

  • This is exactly how I feel about it as well.

It would be possible to concentrate on the remaining flaws if these major problems were fixed first.

  • What prize? What points?

  • Well there's no actual prize, perhaps I was a bit vague. I meant Pirates was voted as second best c64 game of all time by that users on that site and by points I meant the average score/rating (out of 10).

  • Aha. Shows what bloody Zzap knew. Julian Rignall apparently works for IGN these days. Same overblown scores for big releases. If there's one thing history teaches us, it's that we never learn anything from it.

  • Zzap 64 gave this a 93% rating!

  • Maybe they forgot to play the game before reviewing it.

  • ...and they rated Pirates 68%.

In lemonc64 Pirates (8.92 points) almost shares the first prize with Maniac Mansion (8.93 points).
