I was first exposed o the album Aja at the age of 11..it change my life musically..a modern day Mozart we have in Donald Fagan..

FYI- Fagen wears the glasses because the bright lights positioned on him kill his eyes. Unless you are on stage, you don't realize how bright the halogens are.

@SingerAR I can share your point with some first hand knowledge. I used to do some stuff with bands in high school and in college as well as doing crowd control. I can tell you how INTENSE those lights are. Whenever I got close to the stage and those lights are on, it can be near blinding if you're in the direct path. It's not good for the eye either.

@johnduncan77 - Amen brother. The only thing I DON'T miss about the stage are those damned lights.  Plus, hot as hell. You think by now they'd learn how to buffer them. Plus, with the light shows now...all those gobos moving around...it's a wonder all the top bands aren't blind by now. Then - there's the key point of keeping your keyboard lit from the top lights blocking your board. You have to dance delicately on those shows. I say just sit back, and enjoy Fagan!!! He's such a master.

People forget or don't know that these are some of the finest studio musicians in the world. They actually don't give a shit what they look like to people watching them perform (that's why they didn't tour for so long), they care about what they SOUND like; their only concern is putting out music that is as close to perfect as humanly possible. They're not into showmanship, they're into elite musicianship and truly great song writing.

It's Donald Fagen. Most of time he wears shades when he performs. I don't know if he's ever told why he does this, but I would guess it might be because stage lights bother him or he would rather people couldn't make out his facial expressions. As far as the constipated expressions.....just from experience I know sometimes things just happen when you really get into a tune.
