I think it'd be perfect if at the end of the series, Dexter says these exact same words. "Tonight's the night". After being put on trial he somehow gets off with "not guilty" which would in no way differentiate him from the people he kills. Think about it, the show is about injustice so him escaping the "justice" system would be perfect. Then there's a new killer on the loose and Debra after finding out asks him to take care of it. My ideal ending to be honest.
