wtf man, zeggen remake maar dit is meer een deel 2 met andere personages. moest net het boek voor literatuur lezen,,,,het boek is echt wel mooi om te lezen.
liking the original doesnt mean you dont have to like the remake, or the other way around, people that rule out one thing because of another are stupid, they are both great films, ive noticed everyone who says the remake is shit seen the original first, the original has a better ending and atmospher but the remake has better acting and is more enjoyable to watchn. stop hating
I fell in love with Spoorloos, the one and only, when i was 15. One of the best movies ever made, so minimal and chilling. This awful remake just shows why European directors shouldn't sell out to the hollywood industry. What did Sluizer got for this, just bad reviews..so what's the point? Jeff Bridges was pretty good but he couldn't save the whole film anyways. If you love true Cinema, do yourself a favour, watch the original film.
the dutch film is called : "spoorloos" and the boek: "het gouden ei" , I accually thought the movie is great, I don't mean the Dutch one, (who sucks) but this one... i really do...
I hate this film, I read the original dutch Novel and watched the dutch film, and then the American one. They changed names, times, and the most important happening in the story. You should watch the dutch movie witch has a real good story instead of this feel-good ending film.
@brasz101 I should've never finished watching this movie when I left the scene of Jeff Bridges & Sutherland drove off from the apartment on a paranoramic long distance frame shot. I've left that scene 2 years ago. True story.
I'm reading 'Het Gouden Ei' right now for school. Apparently, the english movie ends well i.o. the dutch ending. I wonder why people would screw with such a brilliant story.
@brasz101 the same happent with "The Shining". Everybody knows the one with Jack Nicholson that is really changed, including the ending. There's a TV miniserie of The Shining that it's loyal to the book and it's way more emotive and intriguing. I love it!
i saw this movie on tv the other night but i fell asleep at the end??did he get out of the coffin??and was diane alive or did barney kill her???and what happened to rita??
@pogah1985 , he got out, she was alive, barney comes at them witha chainsaw and superman swoops down and takes them to metropolis in the sunset, they all lived happily ever after
This film has its weak moments (the children's book that Nancy Travis reads is a definite lowpoint), but it also has good acting, a terrific score and (at times) a rudimentary understanding of what made the original work, which is more than you can say for today's horror remakes (*coughZombieweencough*).
Good trailer. Does anyone know where the music playing at 0:38-1:20 is from?
I've been wondering this for a long time. I swear I heard it in the film Off Limits, but it's not on the soundtrack. It does sound like James Newton Howard, though. Who knows!
I replied to this already, but I just watched the part of Off Limits I was thinking of, and the trailer music Lonestarr357 is looking for totally is in the film (around the 54 minute mark). Just not on the soundtrack.
@whisper3978 Thanks a bunch. That's great music. Pity it's not on CD.
Now that I think about it, I can't help but think that someday, when this airs on TV, it'll trumpet "Academy Award winners Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock". Trust me. It's gonna happen.
@ray164510 They barely showed her at all! The only time you saw her were the first scene and flashbacks of her when she was alive...the rest is just that crazy creepy guy, Keifer Sutherland and Nancy Travis.
Poor Kiefer! Shooting this movie was the biggest horror of his life. He was really buried and Nancy Travis had to be very quick to dig him up. It is all because the director wanted to see the true fear and shock on Namcy`s face. So he decided to do it for real...
@kathykisslight Thats crazy as shit! Man...Keifer must have been really scared...he could of died and sufficated! Even though it was to make it real and intense, I wouldn't risk putting some one in harms way. He could have sued if anything happened. But thank god, nothing did. He went through with it because its his job though, but still.
Jeff Bridges performance in this movie was excellent. His acting was very believable! He nailed the crazy dude's character with the walk, kind of slow talker and tone, the lost smile, up to the way he fixed his hair throught the movie...
After watching Jeff in this movie I always think of him as being a little crazy... he played the role so well...
i wish you fag fucks would stop fucking posting movie spoilers on here if you're gonna fucking post one at least post spoiler alert beforehand. now i dont even want to watch the fucking movie
@coulbm06 This is not a spoiler...its a trailer. Basically they made a trailer that almost explained the whole entire movie....the over done it. Trailers is suppose to give you a peek at the movie so you want to watch it, but this makes people not to want to watch the movie, like you said.

let me clear things up:
the dutch book: "het gouden ei" in english "the vanishing".
then the dutch movie: "spoorloos", in english "the vanishing".
then this (American) movie: "the vanishing". this movie is a remake from the original "spoorloos" it doesn't have a dutch title.
so in english: book: the vanishing, movie: the vanishing, movie: the vanishing.
in dutch: book "het gouden ei" movie: "spoorloos" movie: "the vanishing"
only the american vanishing has got a happy ending.
