  • Yes!!

I use them all, but I refuse to use mp3 players.

I still have my walkmans, discmans, minidiscs, etc. and Im more than happy with them!

cheers! keep the old formats alive!

  • It's good to know that people are still watching this old video.

As much as i like new technology. There will always be a place for the older versions as well, imho :)

  • That's a fine update Andy! Although the music-quality is enormously improved, playing music seemed in the older days a bit more "romantic" didn't it? (might be my age also) cheers, Jeroen

  • There's nothing quite like the feel of the vinyl is there? I agree that CD's aren't quite the same, although the sound quality is obviously far superior.

Doing this video has made me quite nostalgic. I think i'll go & have a look through all my 7" singles :)

  • What about reel-to-reel? And, the first time I heard an '8-track' was in a confined space (a vehicle) with eight custom speakers at almost full volume. "Band on the Run" was the song and it almost blew my mind.

Your vlogs are always so interesting. And compelling. - roc

  • We used to have a reel-to-reel, in the very early 1970's, i think. I used to record my favourite songs off of the radio onto it & then play them back. Boy that sounds antiquated doesn't it?

"Band On The Run", great album :)

  • That was fascinating. Its amazing how much technology has advanced over the last 20 years or so. Kids dont know how lucky they are nowadays...Geez!! im only 35, im sounding like a pensioner.lol

  • I must admit making the video made me feel a bit old as well. Don't worry you've got some way to catch me up yet :)

  • It's funny, it's that 'spreading jam' on them that I remember too!

My first CD was Midge Ure's 'If I Was' album!

A good size comparison, would have been the Walkman to the iPod shuffle - a veritable postage stamp!

  • I thought it was peanut butter! LOL (That's how i remember it!) Maybe that's a US/UK thing?

  • I seem to remember the jam spreading being on either Blue Peter, or Tomorrows World. Nothing about the sound quality, just the jam spreading!!

I know what you mean about the Shuffle :)

  • I saw this article on the AP last week and have been meaning to make a video about it! I will have to look one thing up, I thought Billy Joel's 52nd Street was the 1st commercial CD out there..who knows? Let's leave curt be happy! LOL

I had the walkman AND the discman when that came out. I even had one of the first iPods that came out. When you see that new iPhone and realize iPods will go in that direction, it really makes you wonder where it will all go next. Great vid man!

  • You're going to have to be quicker with your vids in future Gary!! :)

We had a play with an IPhone when we were in NYC, very impressive. Certainly one for the future :)

  • Yes...still so much to vlog about and so many videos to catch up on as well as make. But tonight, i'm only reponding to comments...as this commenting "upgrade" has severely put me in a bad mood!

  • I think this commenting "upgrade" has annoyed everybody :(

  • I remember the first time I heard music on a CD - I bought a Philips CD player and the first one thru was a Eurythmics CD. I t just BLEW ME AWAY - no pops or hisses or crackles - just complete silence and then the music. Couldn't believe my ears.

  • I think that was the big change wasn't it, no hissing or crackles, just the music as it was meant to be.

Apparently the biggest selling CD album is still "Brothers In Arms" by Dire Straits, which was quite an early CD release. I remember that one coming out :)

  • ABBA was the first? RIGHT ON!

Andy, that green vynil sure took me back. Heart had released some different colored vynil editions of their regular LP's and I remember salivating at the thought of owning them. Cost may have precluded me getting any of it, I think.

I recently purged all my CDs and VHS tapes. All DVD or MP3s here now. But I think I've had it all, including 78's - and even 8 track tapes!

  • I thought you'd appreciate the ABBA fact!!

I've got loads of different coloured vinyl especially 7" singles, but even some albums as well.

As i said, i may well do a video trawling through my vinyl collection. That should lose me a few subscribers!! :)

  • LOL - I occasionally post things that I know will 'thin the herd' as well. For the record (yes, that's a pun), I'd enjoy watching you trawl through your vinyl.

  • As long as you promise not to un-subscribe, it's a deal!! :)

  • NEVER! You're stuck with me, I'm afraid.

By the way, if I reply the nice comment you left for me on my new video, I cause others to disappear. So I'll say Thank You in this space instead (hoping, of course, that it won't cause the same thing to happen here).

  • Thanks Curt.

This new comment system is really bugging me as well. Luckily i'm not, currently, having the same problem as you. I just can't understand why they've, once again, messed with something that worked perfectly well before. I've sent them an email complaining, not that will do any good.

I think i can feel a rant coming on...!! :)

  • Vinyl cannot be replaced! I just made a few nice purchases on ebay for vinyl :-) Had to have them hehe... CD's just dont cut it... They wont even survive the time span that vinyl will! And i love the linear notes, big piccies, the whole feel of vinyl! Im old! LOL

  • I know what you mean about the sleeves & liner notes, CD's just aren't the same are they? I've thought about trying to buy some old vinyl LP's, from charity shops etc, just for the artwork on the sleeves :)

  • I love CD.

  • So do i & i also love vinyl & even mp3's :)

  • WHAT 25 YEARS!!! God I am old! I remember that as well, I was a stuborn one I stuck to vinal LP's for a long while.. I remember 78's just! it would be great to listen to some of your stuff! AW that is so sweet, the first portable music, from the gehto blasters! It certainly makes you think about the progress we have made in reducing our technology.. :¬D

  • I know, i forgot it was so long ago myself. I've always been a bit of a sucker for new technology, so i got into CD's quite quickly. I sold loads of my vinyl years ago & kind of regret it now :(

  • *gasp of shock* there are two things that come into the house an never leave, books and vinyl!! could never sell either of those! :¬D

  • Funnily enough, i've recently been thinking about pruning both my book & my CD collection, if only to free up some space.

    Please forgive me :)

  • SACRALIGE!!! :¬D I supose I will have to! :¬D

  • Andyyyyyyyyyyyyy I came here thinking I'll be eating cake :o(

  • That reminds me of an old saying "if i had known you were coming, i would have baked a cake"!! :)

  • jajaja.. you know what? I know a song in spanish that says the same thing! :op

You made me remember ...wow! it's been a long time since I heard that song.

  • You will probably keep singing the song to yourself now & won't be able to get it out of your head.

    Sorry!! :)

  • good video. really made me think about how technology has changed. i mean, just look at the first mobile phone.

  • I hadn't even considered mobile phones!!

Yes i do remember the early ones, although i didn't have one myself. I seem to remember they were about the size of house bricks!! :)

  • First. Sorry couldn't resist it!! :)

  • First! :P

    Another cool vid :)

  • by the way andy, if you can put up any of the songs from your old band it would be great to listen to!!

  • I'm thinking of getting one of those record decks that converts vinyl straight to mp3's on your PC. Don't know if you've seen those advertised. So if i do that, you never know, you might get to hear me!! :)

  • yeah i've heard of them, i think my friend has one...would be a good investment!
