  • bear proof ?

  • lol "lightweight" Ya as compared to logs I guess, not really something you can throw on your back with everything else is it. Like the rounded style its like a frontier canvas tent that I love so much.

  • Is it Bear proof? Ha!

  • Tears cascade down my face this is one of my visions unfolding before the screen, the less drive you have to accumulate material wealth the more time you have to immerse yourself within the wealth of beauty our universe still has to offer. Life's a teacher and its lessons will enrich your soul beyond all measure, conscious living for 2012!

  • man, i am impressed, i really want one myself :)

  • Super Super Super..What amazing idea of building cheap houses and durable..Thumbs up...

  • Who is making them sounds in the back ground.I do that myself.Cut it out.I know I need to stop that too.YURT. I have to remember this word.Where did you get your Yurt?

  • That is awesome i just love the outdoors. have you thought of geodesic homes?

  • is that thing bear resistant or what if a tree falls on top of it during a storm?what are the advantages of this one over a cabin aside from being harder to construct?thanks

  • I can buy two houses in Indiana for what this costs.

  • @sbflash311 You're a goddamn idiot hahaha!

  • Wow, that place looks amazing. Completely jealous!

  • Why don;t you bring your ass to Texas and set that piece shit up on my ranch? You will learn very quickly who owns it and who doesn't.

  • What about bears? Do you cook away from the Yurt?

  • I wish the lady wouldn't moan through the whole clip.

  • @DonaBologna he probably had his finger up her yurt.

  • @DonaBologna Nice! I like!

  • hey have you ever seen a UFO out there?

  • yurts are not considered permanent housing in some municipalities. search for geodesic dome homes for a similar structure.

  • thank the great spirit for not answering my questions dick

  • oh, don't take it too personally, there Speck. Just checkin all the comments now. I appreciate your earlier comments, but do not appreciate being called a dick. Have some patience and don't expect people to always know and go with your flow.

  • I always wanted to own a Yurt or a Tepee...,there something warm and homey about having a fire inside your tent. :)

  • I have Question Captain How does this shelter hold up to a hungry Grizzly bear?Have you had any encounters with them?Very nice Digs though.Much respect and Peace be with you.

  • a Grizzly Bear can tear the walls or door off virtually any shelter, but they don't. There are no such things as accidents and there have been only 100 deaths in the last 100 years from bears in Alaska. Whereas there is a death every second in a car crash in America alone.

  • @DavidLakota Well, you answered my question.

  • can you just set up any where or the price of land im an ignorant eastener live in the mountains but all tourists white mountains ya know very popular with city folk used to be nice years ago lived off the land but the days are numbered for peace and quiet round here love those sea gulls cant get near the ocean to crowded here thanks you should be proud of what youve done bang up job

  • Yes, you are an ignorant Easterner. But that is okay, that is what education is for. There is land everywhere for those willing to explore, serve or work the land, to live and play in a holistic way. Everyone else has to pay rent or a mortgage. "The only reason people have to work for money is because they are disconnected from Nature." -native saying

  • @speck444 that was incoherent

Poor clueless Alaskans just had their first New World Order interagency crime sweep called Operation Gangbusters, and most think it's mission will be to contain criminals. Little do they know that this is an operation of the illuminati; and will eventually be used to contain not criminals but dissident Americans who will reject the fascist corporatist government.

  • do u own the land or did u just wander into the woods?

  • Nobody really owns the land. They are just temporary stewards upon it. This particular land is part of a state park system- free for all to explore and discover, camp on, etc.

  • @DavidLakota well in co that thing would have to be up and then gone in 14 days, if they even allow the structure as they told me just tents and rv's are allowed. Not sure if they allow camping everywhere on land as they do have sites they charge for. Too many rules in society for me

  • nice fire...lol

  • I wonder if I could get permission for a yurt where I live, that would be really cool.

  • Felt like home I bet! It's beautiful.

  • Great. Really enjoyed this video!

  • instead of a woodstove how about one o those ventless fireplaces?? what about keeping it cool during the summer?

  • There's no problem keeping cool in Alaska summers unless you are way up north. Even there it is cool at night. This particular cabin is sheltered from both excessive heat and cold.

  • This makes so much sense, I would love to live there in the Wilderness.

  • This looks magnificent !

i relay want to build a yurt in the wilderness

  • a grizzly bear could rip that to shreds and finish up with eating you...

  • Would you happen to be a Druid?

  • I am many things but a Druid I am not- not that I recall. I don't know much about them, though I have met at least two of them. Are you one?

  • would a fire outside your door keep bears and wolfs away?

  • It was the woodstove. Even the most expensive, well insulate shelter will be really cold in the winter without an adequate heat source.

From my experience, with a moderately good stove, this yurt heats up quickly and stay plenty warm. The challenge is actually keeping the stove from making the place too warm. Almost always I leave the window open with a good wood stove.

  • What is the Duro-last made from?

  • The NYT article on this Yurt was interesting, especially about the Duro-Last covering.

Yet in the article, the couple cited that the Yurt was unable to maintain a comfortable warm temperature in Alaska.

Is this due to an insufficient insulation in the floor and coverings, esp. the vinyl windows?

Is this due to the small inefficient wood stove?

    Thoughts?

  • what keeps a grizzly bear from just coming in and having you for lunch?. or have you thought about it? if not , maybe you might consider getting a large side arm like a colt 45. or smith and wesson 357 magnum. i am serious, a bear would have no problem ripping thru that material. something to think about!

  • A Grizzly or Brown Bear can tear through just about anything. I saw a small black bear take the door off a car nonchalantly. The key is not to piss them off. And there are no such things as accidents. I have lived among the bears for more than 20 years. Yurts are great because they go up in a weekend, they're in-expensive and have lots of room. By the way once you shoot a bear or even at one, it's a lot harder to walk in bear country especially at night. Gotta think ahead grasshopper.

  • @DavidLakota Hey I love your perspective. Where I live in the city I put out food for the animals and one raccoon who used to frequent our garbage can never touched it again. It takes very little, a few bites of my meal to keep everyone happy. :)

  • @DavidLakota thatsome avarian/chechen shit. hell, they got provinces in chechnya to dagestan called itum-kaleyurt & nojay-yurt...

  • what i could build one of those for like 2grand or less 20 fuckin thousand where the hell are you buyin shit

  • Denny, nothing can stop a bear from doing what it wants...

  • What about bears. That think aint going to stop a bear from knoking the door down and sittin nest to th efire with ya.

  • Thats why you have dogs..

And ones the bark for good reason.

And when they do, you get your flashlight and Shotgun with Slugs, Or 44 mag, 454 etc and defend yourself and property.

    This isnt complicated.

Men have lived in the wilderness with these predators since beginning of time.

  • hi

how much does it cost for a yurt like that?

  • about 14,000 and 20,000 for a larger one

  • You should be able to get a Yurt for a reasonable price. Look at the Pacific Yurt company

  • You can buy a Yurt from between 4,000 and 10,000+ depending upon size and insulation kit, windows, shipping etc. then there is the posts and the decking.

  • that is pretty nice

  • wish had home on mountain so i could watch sun first open her eyes every morning

  • May Great Spirit and Mother Nature grant you such a noble request. If it is in your highest good, then so be it. Hoka-hey.

  • those look pretty cozy :) i wonder how well they do up here at 50 below?

  • Thanks for posting video and information. Year round shelter is very appealing.
