  • @ravens112 not in orlando. no way. blue man theatre now occupies that area ): check out my channel in the next couple of days. im gunna make a tribute also

  • @STIFFMIESTER99 im going to universal studios orlando in feb this year im gonna go and see if they have any reminisce of the old nickelodeon studios

  • blue man group crushed my childhood......i been there one time and it was amazing but now everytime i go there i see it all smurfed out and think to myself.....why this was once the best network on television, the greatest shows ever were created in this building that was once the great nickelodeon studios. the slime geysers gone, they even removed the time capsule due to open in 2042 to the only remaining studio that produces todays shows in california.

  • screw u blue man group

  • I sure do miss the old Nick they need a channel like boomerang that reruns all the classic shows because Netflix ain't cuttin it for me

  • btw ty Retro for answering my question.

  • Did the sign go to the Nickelodeon Hotel? i have no idea what happened to the slime geyser. i wouldve put it in my yard if i couldve lol!

  • wtf they do wit the nick sign and the slime gusher thing?

  • Is it true another reason it was closed was because a hurricane damaged the outside? That's a rumor i heard going around for awhile.

  • @trekster316

No. It was due to low popularity and low budget.

  • @trekster316 it wasnt cause of that but it was a subcause. they had to re do it because of the damage

  • @RetroFreak

How did you get the Bird's Eye view of the studios?

  • @RetroFreak84

0:46 was there a nick logo on the roundish fan-like thing of the geyser?

  • the reason why they closed it cuz it had a decline of visitors......

i would LIVE There if i could.....R.I.P. Nickelodeon Studios,R.I.P. Old Nickelodeon

  • Awesome tribute! I love how they used to show the "Taped at Nickelodeon Studios" thing after every show. I actually thought that's where they were still taped until someone told me the place closed. I miss seeing the place at the end of Nickelodeon shows.

  • why the fuck it couldnt just stay open and they coulda have built a nick hotel right beside it ....now kids like me will never get to see the nickelodeon studios is person :(

  • its soo sad a time of childhood an memories gone for ever .

  • I miss Nick Stuidios, It's not fair!, What about the kids in this time!?!, What if they wanted to see Nick studios? Thumbs up if you think it's not fair too! :(

  • RIP nickelodeon studios :(

  • ....fuckin blue man group...

  • goodbye nickelodeon studios!

  • This is the most depressing video I've ever seen.

  • Nick Studios could've been amazing today. They could host Kids Choice Awards there, they could tape Brain Surge there (and I could see a taping) and they could tape shows like iCarly there. It would be cool, although I couldn't imagine Nick Studios with the new Nick logo.

  • i remember when i was like 4 or 5 and me my mom dad sister and brother would watch like the nickeloden shows it was so fun now there gone and i am horrifid i and i just found out they changed it and i am 12 now wtf happen 2 my choldhood?

  • What is the name of the song?

  • Blue Man Group had nothing to do with the closing of Nickelodeon Studios! If anyone is to be "blamed" its:

Kids for losing interest in game shows.

Kids for no longer wanted to take the tour and go to the gift shop.

Actors for refusing to move from Los Angeles to Orlando.

What was Nickelodeon supposed to do? Pay staff people to sit in an empty facility and stare @ the walls? Turn the place into a museum? With no visitors, that idea wasn't going to fly.

  • Why Blue Man Group? nobody gives a shit about them anyway. they're gonna die soon with all that blue chemical shit on their whole fucking bodies. BRINK FUCKING NICKELODEON BACK YOU FUCKING BLUE SMURFS!

  • @Shortpinoy13 i think it was photoshoped

  • @Shortpinoy13 DUDE I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU I MEAN WHO CARES ABOUT THEM, ALL THEY DO IS DO SHIT LIKE STUFF THAT DONT MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH THEY BETTER BRING THE NICKELODEON STUDIO BACK

  • @Shortpinoy13

Tottaly. Boo Blue Men. Get off the earth.

  • SAD.

  • ALL THAT IS LEFT IS ARE MEMORIES WE HOLD DEAR IN ARE HEART ARE WHOLE CHILDHOOD IS GONE FOX KIDS WB FRO KIDS OLD CARTOON NETWORK AND DISNEY AND NICK. RIP MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

  • Spongebob the final link to those times i hope the chain doesnt break

  • @tboneslam Me either

  • Nickelodeon (and Disney Channel) are kids networks. Their target audience is, roughly, early teens and younger. The networks broadcast shows that appeal to that demographic.

Age-wise...90's Kids are now outside the target audience for both networks. It's great if a show appeals to both the target audience and people age 20+, but neither network is specifically looking to attract 90's Kids.

  • @bewarethedecks- It's a shock to my system, indeed, but the painful truth must be admitted . . . the '90s Kids are *now* the '90s Adults. . . ((brain cramp))

    Now I'm depressed. :(

  • @DayMare2000

As a "70's Kid" I sometimes look at videos of shows I grew up with (The Banana Splits, Captain Kangaroo, Far Out Space Nuts and others) and think about my younger days.

Do I miss being a kid? Sometimes.

Do I think its right for me to demand that the shows my generation grew up with be brought back? No.

Every generation is different. Today's kids are different than 90's Kids. Nickelodeon & Disney have moved on. Sadly.....a percentage of 90's Kids haven't.

  • @bewarethedecks- ...Oh.

It's clear that we both have extremely different perspectives on this matter. What do I think? I think that there should be a nostalgia channel for the decades that are requested from the viewers. Think of it this way: the viewers are the ones watching television, so why should they be forced to stick with only what is "current/trendy/modern, etc"? ...They shouldn't. It would be just as unfair to them to stick to the New as it would to make current kids watch the Old.

  • @DayMare2000

Nick GaS aired classic game shows. Interest in the channel was so small that there were no ads and very few shows airing in a constant repeat cycle.

The closing of Nickelodeon Studios & the decision to fold GaS into TurboNick jolted 90's Kids and then the cries rang out.

Remember that interest in game shows dried up and then number of visitors to Nickelodeon Studios tanked. These facts are mentioned by Nickelodeon insider Josh Yawn & other sources.

  • @bewarethedecks- Yeah, I remember that. :) I saw some of it.

I understand that it's a change in the interests of kids, but I think it's more than that. The over all change that I witness is that these shows aren't family oriented. I know that they are for the kids, I totally understand that, but back in the '90s, I oftentimes saw adults watching the kids shows, too. It had family value to it that isn't in the current shows. That family link isn't felt and now I don't see adults watching it. :(

  • @DayMare2000

The thing is....Nickelodeon & Disney are just giving children the shows that they want.

Shows built around a cast of kids fell out of favor in the late 90's/early 2000s because they tend to show their age much more readily than animation. Styles, such as clothing & hair, change.

To hold viewer interest, shows like Figure It Out and GUTS underwent changes. Animation can remain fairly constant and still hold an audience (think Simpsons & Spongebob).

  • @bewarethedecks- I'm well aware of all of this.

My point is that it should be made fair for everyone and not just the kids. They are the driving force for these companies, yes, I'm aware of that, but the thing that bothers me is that these companies are so money hungry that they aren't taking all ages into consideration. The kids - yes - but they act like they don't care about the earlier generations. That's the part that bothers me. There should be nostalgia channel(s) by now.

  • @DayMare2000

TV Land is a true nostalgic channel. You can't get any more so than 50's & 60's television shows. GaS was a quasi 90's nostalgia channel and it suffered from poor viewership. Why?

People with digital cable or satellite TV could access it and watch episodes of GUTS, Figure it Out, Get the Picture and other programs. But there was very little interest. Interest spiked after it was announced that GaS was being taken off the air. But by then the horse had already left the barn.

  • @bewarethedecks- Nostalgia applies to all generations, not just the '50s and '60s.

What would be great is if *some* of the '90s TV shows - the most requested, and only from Nick and Zoog Disney - would be aired on TV Land. That whole channel, in my opinion, should be for all nostalgia, and a small bit of each decade should be on that channel. There is something special about all decades and they should *all* be remembered. Another good idea is to have a TV Land 2, when the first one gets full.

  • @DayMare2000

TV Land seems to have a reasonable mix of shows from the 50's through the 2000's. Home Improvement, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Nanny and some other 90's shows are listed. Now if you're thinking of a channel that only plays kid's shows from the 90's 24/7, then we go back to GaS.

  • @bewarethedecks- That's nice to know. :) I haven't watched TV for a long time, so it probably updated when I wasn't aware.

  • @DayMare2000

I haven't watched much of TV Land, but I caught a glimpse of the line-up on their website.

  • @bewarethedecks- The deal with me is that I'm so nostalgic that I want all people who watch TV to feel welcome to television. The Kids from the '50s, the '60s, the '70s, the '80s, and the '90s should all be free to go to a certain television channel and reminisce. I hope that you see that my perspective isn't a selfish one; I'm thinking for all people because I think TV should be made fair for everyone, people of all ages.

  • @DayMare2000

I don't see it as selfish.

Most of the comments that I post on these various tributes are in response to calls for Nickelodeon (the main channel) to punt the existing lineup and bring back many of the shows from the 90's. Doing that is just not fair to today's kids who do have different tastes than their older siblings. 90's Kids had their day and now it's time to let today's kids have their turn with Nick (& Disney).

  • @bewarethedecks- Understood. I don't think that changing the shows would be fair, either. I'm just hoping that, in the future, they would consider either revamping GaS, or at least creating another Nickelodeon channel for all of the old Nickelodeon shows, not just the ones from my decade. Even if this does not happen, I would still be happy with DVD compilations of the old shows, a lot of which I am planning on purchasing in the near future.

  • @DayMare2000

It would be hard to revamp GaS at this point because the channel no longer exists. For unclear reasons, Dish kept a the loop of GaS programs going for about 15 months after the channel was taken down from digital cable. Wikipedia's listing for GaS is a pretty good read.

I think we've kinda loaded up the comments section of this video quite a bit so I'm going to wrap up with this one. I've enjoyed the discussion! :o)

  • @bewarethedecks- Your last point... I really must disagree with that, too. Yes, kids change as time goes by, but lately, the entire world isn't suitable for kids anymore. The '90s was the last decade where kids had freedom. Today, the level of danger and social asphyxiation is severely hindering all children. This is why "90s Kids/Adults" are stuck in their past: they are one of the few generations that CAN tell that the world is getting worse. It's not an illusion. Kids can't be kids anymore.

  • @DayMare2000

I'm simply stating that the types of programs that today's kids want to watch on television differs from those that 90's Kids wanted to see. And it is the job of Nickelodeon & Disney to change to accommodate their target audiences.

Shows like iCarly & Big Time Rush are popular with many of today's technology- savvy kids.

    90's Kids...for the most part...hate them.

So who is Nickelodeon (a children's network) going to listen to? Tweens & younger....or....20 somethings?

  • @bewarethedecks- I understand and I don't think that they should change what's on their channel for '90s kids, but what I think they should do - or take into consideration, at the very least - is either make a channel for television nostalgia (either separate channels for different decades, or a whole channel that will fit all of them) so that different generations can continue enjoying the decade that they came from. That's my only point. I think it should be made fair for all generations.

  • @DayMare2000

Nickelodeon does have sister channels that air mixes of old & new programs. Nicktoons & TV Land could be tapped to air older Nickelodeon programs IF the conditions were right (enough viewer demand, companies willing to buy advertising spots, what shows are still available for Nickelodeon to use and so on).

There is a lot that goes into creating & operating a television network that most of us will never know about...but economics & business rules do still apply. :o)

  • @bewarethedecks- To be honest with you, I think - in due time - there might actually be nostalgia channels that will pop up for the earlier generations. The outcry is pretty large, and we *might* see reruns in the future. My only point is that it's disheartening that the television companies cannot see past the money. My only point is that they *should* (not that they will - fat chance) see that these shows have a large impact on the emotions of the viewers of ALL AGES. That's my only point.

  • PROTEST PROTEST!

  • Nick was capable of reaching its core base true but they had the drive to actually reach us (kids from the 90's) now a days it more about that bottom line that more important, We (80's babies) were lucky enough to enjoy great children television. Hell i would wake up with my little bro earlier saturday morning to catch a show on TV ie..630 Mr.Wizards world, but now its all about money the bigwigs don't care for the youths these days..There is no Bill Nye, Beakmens world nothing

  • any1 notice how the only remains of the actually good nick are on tv at like 2:00 am in the morning? NICKELODEON (and dvr) FOREVER!

  • its not gone it reopened in ca in 2 studios

  • i noticed that nick started to die when the studios closed

  • Nickelodeon is gone now,all they show is live action crap, Icarly and crap and sponge bob which is losing it now.my child hood is gone now! :D

  • @Hieagandaus

The types of programs that Nickelodeon's (and Disney Channel's) core viewers want to see are different that what 90's kids enjoyed.

But a percentage of 90's kids are having difficulty letting go and want the 2 networks to go back to broadcasting shows that really don't resonate with their current viewers.

SpongeBob is the last link to 90's Nickelodeon. When it ends, the door to 90's Nickelodeon will be closed forever.

  • @bewarethedecks

And Nick News. That goes back to 1993.

  • @RetroFreak84

Yup....it does. But now I'm not 100% sure if Nick News is a regular production program.

  • @RetroFreak84 nick news is like cancelled and they dont show it too much anymore

  • As of today, this marks the 5th anniversary that nick studios closed down. Man sad to say that. Thanks a million for this great tribute retrofreak84!

  • dude i would love to have that big orange sign infront of my house or the slime geyser thatd be sooo fucking awesome

  • Well, I went to Nickelodeon Studios Orlando Florida in 1994, and in 1996. It was really cool to see everything there. You really see the little things that go on in there.

I'll always remember seeing the set of Legends of the Hidden Temple. That was back when Universal Studios was a really cool place to visit.

I don't even recommend going there anymore. Most of the really great attractions are gone now. I still have a book that has all of the old attractions. I loved Ghostbusters experience.

  • i went there 2 summers ago, but obviously, nick wasnt there

  • I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith

  • dang,l had a dream that nick just went away,l mean like the channel crew just like died and the channel went away.

  • Thank God some of the interior decoration is still there.

    R.I.P. Nick Studios...

  • Blue Man Group has nothing to do with the closing of Nickelodeon Studios.

By 2000, Nickelodeon's viewers lost interest in game shows and wanted more cartoons & scripted comedies.

By giving viewers what they wanted, Nickelodeon had to move production back to Hollywood, because popular actors refused to move to Orlando.

Nickelodeon kept Nickelodeon Studios opened as long as it could, but by 2005 the network realized that the time had come to close it down.

  • Thank you! I saw BMG there and they were awesome, but I'm still sad about the closing and wish viewers today wanted stuff like that.

  • Nickelodeon took a risk by building the complex in Orlando. The idea was to try to create a "Hollywood" on the east coast.

Things were good for quite a while, but the network's viewer's loss of interest in game shows and wanting more cartoons and scripted shows signaled the beginning of the end for Nickelodeon Studios.

Because popular actors chose to stay in Hollywood, had Nickelodeon built the studio complex in southern California, it could still very well be a functioning facility today.

  • @bewarethedecks that really sucks =(.. if only nickelodeon cuould just rebuild another nickelodeon studio in california maybe that would bring some revival to it..

  • I suppose if there was enough long-term demand for game shows, Nickelodeon could justify the cost of building another facility. Right now, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Right now, Nickelodeon has only 1 game show (BrainSurge) in its line-up. The network leases space @ Hollywood Center Studios for the staging of the program.

  • @bewarethedecks thank's for telling why it really closed.

  • i hate the blue men group i want nickelodeon studios back :(

  • Can you post links to where you got all of the clips?

  • I honestly can't remember. Probably somewhere on YouTube.

  • Most of Nickelodeon's shows during their "Golden Age" (1994-2002) was filmed there. Now almost all of Nickelodeon's programming is filmed in L.A.. I wish the studio was still there though. It made Nickelodeon unique in a way.

  • I have never been there before and I didnt know it existed untill November (I think) 2006

  • The building almost looks naked without the sign and the colors.

  • I know... I know.. And the area has changed around the building so much. Look at the footage of them putting up the sign in 1990. There's like nothing there! No trees. Now if those kids tried to run to the studios in the same spot they'd knock into trees of like fall in the construction of the coaster.
