Fantastic performance, Mona! That stall that started at 0:39, where the hoop was on your shoulders and only your left armwas inside it - that was just gorgeous.
I have been trying forever to get the stalls down. I remember when I first picked up a hoop I did stalls without even knowing what they were and now I can't spin without the hoop moving!
I was curious to know how long it took you to get this good? I'm just starting and I've improved a lot already, but I imagine it took a lot of time to get to this level.
You said this was for a senior seminar... May I ask where you go to school, and what your major is/was? Ive been trying to find a way to go to school and incorporate my creative abilities, but have not found anything yet. thanks
When you first started did you get lots of bruises? I've just started and I have a bruise the size of a melon... will this be a constant thing? You're amazing by the way, you are like a goddess. x
ggggggggaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh I want your style so bad I've been working on my stall technique but omg you just look so beautiful!!! what kind of hoop is it that youre using?
@WhateverCakes this hoop was 3/4" gauge, 100psi and about 39" in diameter. it was a little on the heavy side, i bought it from hoopnotica and then I re-taped it after all the sparkly tape got scraped off. now I use 150 psi, it's more flexible=less bruises
love your style! you inspired me to learn sustained spinning, and now i cant hoop any other way! one question, how do you manage to spin for so long without gettin dizzy??
@HaylieNowak Artist is Younger Brother. Album is "A Flock of Beeps". Song is "Crumblenaut". If you like this music, check out a group called Shpongle, the same guy is in both bands.
Another tip for successful slow spin body isolations is to use a hoop with a pretty good sized diameter. go for a larger hoop, around 38" to 42" diameter, for slower hooping and a smaller hoop, 30" to 36" diameter, for faster more snappy trick hooping. Its good, if you can, to have a few different types of hoops to try out, heavy, light, large, small, big tubing, small tubing. Every hooper body reacts differently to different hoops, try a hoop club or gathering and ask to try out other hoops.
This is a very simple question, and you may laugh . . but how do you not get sick. Or dizzy for that matter? I can hardly spin without feeling reeeally sick and extremely disoriented, and of course, then I fall over. Is there a trick or are you just used to it?
@AlternativeRobbie I'm basically just used to it. when i first started spinning, i used to get very dizzy/sick...but as you practice and get used to the motion your body adjusts. :)
Wow, I really really adore this video. Definitely my favorite style :] I've been hooping for two months and I cant seem to get the hoop from my knees to my waiste gracefully, any suggestions??
i've been hooping for a year now and your video really inspired me. im trying to learn your moves but can't seem to make my hoop rotations slow enough...any advise? or is it simply a matter of practice
for slow rotations it's all about quick foot steps, the stronger your balance and spin the more the centripetal forces can hold your hoop up so you don't have to 'pump' it to keep it up. hope that helps!
@MissTallulahHula shes amazing at this slow spinning isnt she! Also try looking up and practicing "stalls" this will help you to understand the flow of slower hooping <3
@MissTallulahHula slow rotations can also be obtained by turning in the direction you are hooping. that will slow the hoop down considerably. if you notice, in this video she is almost constantly turning.
Is it better to use a lighter or heavier hoop for this type of dancing? And thanks for the great video: you and your hooping is gorgeous! You make it look so effortless.
who in the right mind would give this video a thumbs down?! blasphemy!!
... you just inspired me to hoop for the next 4 hours ;) dig ittt ! .. are you strictly shpongle shakin, or can i make a request to flow some theivery corporation?
great inspiration!! i just started learning to hoop and i finally got the lift up & down thing. i want to really get into hooping so i can do things like this! any advice? i feel like i look like a camel or something when i hoop!
when I made this video I had been hooping for 2 years...now it's a little over 3. When I first started I did have trouble keeping it up, but you just have to keep tryin!
@ShpongledHoops so just spinning? i'd love to hulahoop, but i'd love to be just that graceful at sinning. how much space you need? should i put on music and spin to it till i get coordinated? /serious.
you're beautiful, i'd love to know how to dance better :3
@ShpongledHoops totally agree, the mroe you practice the better you get at spinning. I find if you spot while spinning and try not to focus so much on moving objects, it helps. however, ballet growing up helped me with hoop spinning :)
Wow. You have an amazing hoop style. I've never seen anything like this!!!! All of your videos are really beautiful and really inspire me to keep practicing!
