This actually a myth. The fruit never has enough time to rot or ferment, because the animals eat it so fast off the tree, not from the ground. IF they did, an elephant would have to ingest about 1400 fruits in order to get intoxicated. And ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand. Think about it...they would suffocate if they did. It's another myth.

A friend of mine who lives in the Kariba Dam area says he sees this a lot during the summer. The Wilderbeast and monkeys eat the rotting(fermenting) morula fruits and 2 hours later they are wobbling all over the place lol.
