the last passage(ending of hemispheres), describes RUSH...they run alone and free!!!...The hall of fame can't still figure them out and now....WHO CARES!....This band added another dimension to the way I look at life......Thank you, RUSH!!!!!
"We can walk our road together, if our goals are all the same. We can run alone and free, if we pursue a different aim. Let the truth of love be lighted, let the love of truth shine clear, Sensibility. Armed with sense and liberty. With the heart and mind united in a single, perfect, sphere".
Beautiful, it physically brings tears to my eyes every time, I LOVE RUSH!!!!!!!
I wish there was video of all the old back-screen footage from Rush's tours over the years. From all the still images that I have seen, it would be a treasure trove and a dream come true for any Rush die-hard to be able to see that footage.
This is the best version possible! Thanx for this vid....I loved it. I am now 41 and have not missed a RUSH concert since my first one at 14. (hahaha 4114) any way...these guys are the greatest thing to ever happen to my ears.
one of my favorite RUSH songs thanks for sharing this great classic live performance. It's to bad that we will never get to see this song done live again I don't think Geddy's voice can hit those hi notes anymore. I have seen only parts of this live in my life time at my fist of 18 rush concerts in 1981. The best band ever April 10 th at the garden can't wait I can never get enough of this band.
there's that excellent point end of the 'first act' of bytor and the snowdog, where they sound like they have -doubled- themselves onstage... it's so ear- blowingly awesome; cygnus also gets that way. hemispheres didn't quite reach that 'double-loud' sound, but was so epic and compositionally complex (and coupled with cygnus from farewell to kings, was perhaps the longest musical epic outside of the who)... it's so 'visually stunning' within the mental eye and so audacious.
All these years of listening to and watching these guys and I still can't believe the sound they make, I don't even know what to call it, that "Rush" sound, with the bass and the drums and Alex's "full" sound, it's such a trademark, and it's amazing all that comes from just 3 guys. Where's the backing band like Pink Floyd used to drag around with them? Even when Rush uses tape loops or sequencers they control them personally. Just an awesome band.

@rushfm You can hear it in Geddy's voice. He's really struggling throughout this entire song. He sounds tired, cant hit the highs well at all.
This happens to a lot of bands that write ambitious songs. Then they have to play it every night and its just not as good as the studio version. Musically they sound fine buy the vocals arent too great.
@emobangs03 I turned 18 in '78, and It was amazing rockin' to Rush. I wish you could have been there also man. Even though you weren't able to make it, let it be known that I rocked hard enough for both of us. :) Ruuush!!!
I know just what you mean. Did you get a chance to see AC/DC open for Aerosmith before Bon Scott passed? They blew Aerosmith away! :) <3 We got some great music back in our youth. I feel sorry for the kids today whose parents don't let them grow up listening to this. My own daughter loves Rush, YES, King Crimson, Cream, - and so many more. She is a dedicated Dream Theater, Flaming Lips,Tool, Perfect Circle fan. Those bands owe a great debt to 'our' bands and the master musicians who came before!
I just listened to part one of this and now part 2... this is excellent sound for 1978 (or any time for that matter). Quite amazing. Great performance.
what an awsome remeberance, i saw them 3 years in a row starting with a fare well to kings, and one of the best shows i EVER saw was moving pictures tour, STUNNING!!! what a great band
Amazing. Never heard Hemispheres live before. It's a pity they never did it as a side on their second live album. The performance is pretty close to the album apart from the Cygnus section which is still good. It does briefly go a little bit "Spinal Tap/ Stonehenge" at 3.25 but recovers:) Only Rush had the talent to pull stuff like this off though.
Greatest Band EVER Christella if you are able to make a copy, I would like to hear from you. This was also my first concert in Louisville Ky way back in '78 or '79.
I caught this tour in Chicago and got to meet the boys at a small pre-show dinner where they were presented with their platinum Hemispheres lp's. Lifeson and Lee were cool but Peart was in a dark place - maybe just hated the biz side or was psyching for his amazing performance.
@ancientsymbol he mentioned in beyond the lighted stage he isn't trying to piss people off or be rude he just gets embaressed about these things etc but in reality probly a nice guy sorry about the bad spelling
In responce to newmexicosunset, real musicians, have great memory. The music comes from a place that most musicians of today, have no clue about. The creative mind, heart, and soul. It's all about feeding the money machine and whats popular. There is no true creative freedom anymore. I am in a progressive group that's called Taurus, about to release our debut album, and have at present, 3 songs on the album that are over 15 mins long, but not at all hard to remember. Check us out on Facebook.
@NewMexicoSunset I wondered the same thing for awhile but then I realized why. Unlike most artist today, Rush writes their music from their souls. The songs are a part of them and that's why he doesn't forget the words.
To this day, my favorite Rush album. The Holy 'Trinity' of Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures will never be topped!
