one of the greatest violin concertos of all eternity...and to think that Bruch hardly made any money off of it...a priceless gift to posterity at a bargain price.
As much as I love the solo aspect of this piece, one of the most enjoyable moments of my 5 years playing in a symphony was as a violist between 5:50-6:40. Ill never forget the sound waves from the brass and orchestra moving through my body
If I listen to this enough times, the audio memory in my brain will play it back over and over in my head. Auditory memory is one of the blessings we are born with. Isn't that how Beethoven still composed after going deaf?
This is absolutely beyond normal interpretations that can be heard among the best recordings done until today. It is so intense, passionate, elegant and brilliant ! Perlman at his best, for sure. Amazing.
I love both the versions of Janine Jansen and Perlman's. I truly do :)
It's heart-warming and poignant, all at the same time. I love this concerto so much that some of the cadenzas are in my head. Thank you Itzhak Perlman and Janine Jansen :)
is this a duel but that but at 1:54 and on sounds like there are 2 Violins. it was just playing in the back ground but when that bit played it just yanked my ear and made me sit up and pay attention. amazing
The very best version of the Bruch Violin Concerto I have listened to is by Sarah Chang, no one plays it with the passion and soul like she does. I saw her play it live in London this april, the audience went crazy after her performance.
@no1knowledge Every musician of this caliber plays with love and passion--they've devoted their lives to wood and strings, you have to be in love with the music and the instrument to get to this level.
I like Itzhak's performance more, though. I like his phrasing more, frankly--something I think Sarah Chang can't match Itzhak in, even if she plays with more power. Sarah Chang has a bigger stage appeal, though: She's a beautiful, young, amazing violinist who plays with a lot of passion.
*wow* this is the version my music teacher had me listen to over and over while I was learning this concerto. The first and third movements are incredible. The Bruch is still my favorite piece to play -- love the intensity and passion. Thanks for sharing.

In my opinion, best rendition of Bruch's op. 26 available on Youtube. Oh Itzhak, how lovely crafty hippy you were!

Perlman's Bruch is the best! (Along with Ruggiero Ricci, of course).

i play it almost exactly like this!
except for the fact that my runs are still a notch or two below speed

the first cadenza was a little drawn out for my liking. Otherwise his interpretation perfectly expresses my own emotional interpretation.
