Wow...I haven't heard any film singer in bollywood do this vocal style...And some people say Lata was not versatile!!! Imagine a vocalist trained in Hindustani classical doing the operatic soprano style... Only Lata could pull it off with such elan! She has touched the high 'B' here

@hpulekar1 Are you sure that's a high B? The second staccato sequence goes roughly: C6-G#5-Eb5-C5-Eb5-F5-G#5-Bb5-C­6-G#5 So it should be a high C. :) But what's incredible is that Lata doesn't sound close to the end of her vocal spectrum.

Asha tried something similar in 'tu mi piaci, cara' in 'Bewaqoof' before Lata did. She attempted to hit a C#6 but couldn't, so the instrument had to fill in. She did sing a couple of high B's and Bb's, though, and managed to hit a C6 with some difficulty.

@saki0991 Hmm...not sure about that..its too fast to figure out exactly, but the tonic sounds like D to me.

@hpulekar1 You're right, the tonic should be D. That's why I removed my earlier comment. :) I tried to reproduce that particular sequence on a piano, and it sounded accurate to me. Anyway, one semitone hardly makes a difference. The fact of the matter is that for a singer trained in Hindustani classical music, singing staccato notes at that pitch with the pin-point accuracy of a seasoned soprano is an exceedingly difficult challenge. But she is Lata Mangeshkar, and she can do anything.

It is Lata Mangeshkar all the way , reaching those impossibly high notes. Listen to Lata scale unmatched vocal peaks doing a unique operatic soprano style singing.No wonder, Salil Chaudhary was so much in awe of her!
