I'm Irish and like all other irish people I would get very worked up about somebody calling Ireland a 'British Isle'. However in 1845 Ireland was officially a British Isle, I think Obama is very aware that we are free of British rule but he's not incorrect in saying what he said.

I'm Irish and like all other irish people I would get very worked up about somebody calling Ireland a 'British Isle'. However in 1845 Ireland was officially a British Isle, I think Obama is very aware that we are free of British rule but he's not incorrect in saying what he said.
Having said that, it was a very bad choice of words.
