  • I have a LSD in my 84 rx7 but when I burn out I only get one tire to spin, help?

  • Haha LSD and STD haha!!

    Shut up.

  • sorry for bad english i cant understant please anyone tell me whats the diff is the best for racing for drifting????????LSD OR STD????

  • @MrSate11ite dude that's like part of the basics for drifting.

    you need a LSD.

    if not you will fishtail.

i pray your not attempting this in real life because it still seems like your a novice.

  • @EatDeeznuts1 thxxx so much dude :) and thxx again for pray :)

  • @MrSate11ite

Not sure about drifting but if your drag racing the LSD would give you better traction

  • 14 people just realized they don't have lsd

  • Finally somone who explained the difference clearly :), thanks

  • Thank You For .....?what :P

  • Comment removed

  • If you take too much LSD you may end up with an STD.......

  • Sooooo, what is best for drifting?

  • @zbabar3000 Nothing. Drifting is for noobs.

  • @TehButterflyEffect I guess you don't know how to drift, Noob.

  • @BrendanRoganArts Why would I want to? Drifting is for n00bs, power sliding is where the pros are at.

  • @TehButterflyEffect I think you play too many video games, no professional calls it "power sliding." That's only done in video games.

  • @BrendanRoganArts lmao, "power sliding" is drifting. I don't think you really know much about drifting. Instead you like to call others "noobs" and pretend like you know something when you don't.

  • @BrendanRoganArts I like how you don't know what welding a diff will do to a car's handling, yet you seem to think there isn't a difference between a power slide (real racing) and a drift (Japanese n00b car sliding).

I'll admit drifting is cool, but it's completely useless in the real world.

  • @TehButterflyEffect IDK about welded diffs? I do know, you can confirm in various drifting forums that: it reduces traction by turning both tires at the same rate in a turn, making it easier for cars to slide and can be dangerous in the rain on regular roads. It's also funny how you insult drifting and then claim that it's used in racing. Any sliding, no matter where even during a race, is called "drifting." It's also funny how you say its is useless compared to racing...

  • @BrendanRoganArts cntd. I'm sure racing is soooo useful "in the real world," that's why granny goes racing every weekend and it's part of Driver Ed. courses in every high school.smh

In "the real world" racing is just as useless as drifting (for the most part),they are both just sports that require skill, but to not acknowledge drifting because it has nothing to to with being the fastest is pretty lame and narrow-minded when it comes to auto-sports.

  • @BrendanRoganArts Welded diffs increase traction to the point where it makes it very difficult to turn. Once you are sliding (as long as you are rear-wheel drive) it is easier to control the slide with welded diffs. With front wheel drive, welding your diffs would make it completely impossible to turn.

Again, you are refusing to acknowledge the difference between a drift and a power slide. There is a difference. "Drifters" may not think so, but any rally racer will disagree.

  • @zbabar3000 I'm not sure myself, I came here because I wanted to find out how LSDs help with drifting I had heard in the past that LSDs helped somehow, but I also heard that people who drift welded their diffs to make it easier to initiate drift. I wouldn't recommend welding a diff on a street driven car though because it might make it more difficult to control for regular driving.

  • but then you never would apply power from the actual wheels themselves, the power comes from the drive shaft. sorry i don't know much about this

  • I HATE STD's ... eww...

  • woot woot, I just found out why my E30 can bust nice donuts, never knew it had an lsd till I jacked it up today and spun one wheel, YESSSSS!!!!

  • it should be what? i didnt understand what you said when you were spinning the LSD. do the LSD wheels spin at the same speed when u spin one side?

  • be careful you might get STD if u bought the wrong differential LOL

  • what would be the best lsd ratio for a 325 i convertible m20b25 with a sport gearbox,

  • May i put one of this to my Honda CR-V 4WD Real Time on the front differencial? I read somewhere i can do this.

  • what is that?

  • Can anyone answer my question please?

    Thank you!

  • The car is in Neutral, both wheels jacked up!

If I spin a wheel backwards (like if it was in Reverse) they both spin in the SAME direction, both at the same time! But If I spin them forward, the other wheel doesn't spin at all. So do I have an LSD or NOT???

    Thank you!

  • can u uhhhh whats it called... Send me the lsd to my house cuz i need one. Thanks.

  • sexually transmitted disease... std..

  • Is there anyway to tell by just looking at the diff if its a 3.73 or 4.10 or do you have to remove the plate?

  • @Melspace02 there should be a metal tag on the diff with the ratio, may need cleaning up in order to read it

  • std lol

  • so is limited slip when both tires spin in 2 wheel drive?

  • good video man cheers

  • Can you get an STD from LSD? - Seriously.. great info that a newbie wouldn't know.. Thanks! (I knew this one) - Rob

  • A much easier way is to do a burnout.........2 parallel marks are a posi or LSD............one mark is a STD. Now bite me!

  • no its not...if u see the standard diff, when he turns one side with his hand, the other side turns opposite.

at the lsd diff, both sides turn the same direction.

that is a general way to see if a diff is lsd type or free

  • agreed, utter bullshit

  • can someone tell me exactly what and lsd is and what it does for the car?

  • Lsd give the car better traction between wheels. There are different types of lsd, but I only know a little about one type. It uses blocks of friction material like a clutch disc and it rubs between the 2 output gears. When you make a corner, it rubs the blocks and the wheels turn at different speeds, but when you are on snow/ice, the two wheels should turn together and get more traction to the ground. Otherwise you would just spin the one wheel and not get anywhere.

  • i'll take some lsd but i dont want an std.

  • sounds like your LSD is making a bit of noise, you should get that checked out :)

  • its a clutch lsd...they get pretty noisy when they arent warm

  • i think it makes that sound because the part where the drive shaft joins the diff is touching the ground

  • Dude...

I don't thing this applies to viscous-type limited slip differentials...

I believe this method of identifying differentials applies to the mechanical/clutch type only.

Nonetheless, thanks for uploading! It has probably helped many people who need to identify their type of diff.

  • @AWDfreak this method is used to identify all types of LSD's cone type or clutch type but the best method is to try an turn each drive shaft in different directions.

  • So it works even for viscous differentials?

I've been wondering how it would work for a viscous type, though...

Need to buy myself some jack-stands to see if my Outback has one!

  • what does this tell us about the difference of the two driving wise? nothing....pointless video.

  • lol lsd is ma shit.....but nice vid still

  • Numbers! you are on fire!

  • i would rather take lsd over the STD HAHAHA

  • i much prefer my limited slip rear over a posi rear that i had on another truck. when going around corners at a high speed the rear doesnt bounce with limited like my posi did. posi is great for racing but every day driving...i prefer the limited slip. with the limited there is extra "ass" when you need a little more push than standard.

  • Is this a clutch type LSD or the worm pinion type?

Am I right the clutch type will protect the ring gear more in power overload or towing if the load locks up?

  • Clutch I believe

  • STD!!! be careful dude!

  • lmao

  • lsd haha gimme some

  • is there a way to tell if a car has and lsd or not just buy looking or going for a quick drive?

  • do a burn out, if there are

    two streaks = lsd

    single streak = open

  • @Toadmoney99 rev the nuts off the thing, if you lose control and hit a lamp post- then its LSD.

  • don't they also call the ls differential an autoblock or something?

  • what's best for drifting?with or without LSD?

  • A posy. (paw-z) That means both drive whells spin no matter what. where the LSD 1 wheel slows down going around corners.

  • Definately with an lsd. If both wheels spin the same speed, its much easier to "break the rear loose" and start drifting.

  • with lsd both tires spin in the same "proportion" lets say, so its easier to powerslide, but also the thing about lsd is that it prevents excesive wheel spin, so it´s easier to powerslide, but harder to mantain the powerslide

  • with lsd..it locks the rear wheels

  • with lsd i think

  • locked

lsd is better cause open will just spin one wheel where as lsd will spin one to a point then spin both

locked is the best where you just weld it all together and both wheels spin at the same speed at all times

horrible for regular cornering but good for drifting/drag racing

  • its good for 4x4ing to, jeeps turn so dam sharp it dosent really matter

  • mam nadzieję że po takim materiale wieśniaki będą wiedzieć co to jest szpera

  • I lost my babel fish.....Can someone translate ?

  • @rs05uk translated: " I hope that after this film all owners of E30 know what is LSD"

  • @rs05uk Why do people comment on the material in other languages if all the other comments are in English? The guy basically said that he hopes that now, after watching the video all various arseholes will know what limited slip differential is. Gee, learn languages people!

  • @cypriotist Thanks!

  • @rs05uk you can also use google translate.

  • @januarcostillas thanks !

  • @rs05uk he said "I hope so the rednecs (morons with small brain in Poland) after this video will be know what is LSD". Sth like that.

  • No need to reply to the babelfish thing anymore, I got it :-) Thanks!

  • shriepshroepshrap please READ whats already been said here. I have clearly answered questions like this already on this topic. Thanks !! RATE THIS VID IF YOU LIKE IT !

  • LSD and STDs! tehe

  • hahahah

  • i can not speak good englisch or american.i wont to by a bmw 325 or 328 or e36m3 have dei lsd or not?i want to have a driftcar is it better with lsd or with std i want to make burnout in first gear end in maby in second gear witout jusing my brake

  • my 85 325e had limited slip and 5sp dam that was nice car.

  • rs05uk nice speaking :)

dont u think that LSD is better for most situations and at all ?

  • SO LSD WOULD MAKE BOTH WHEELS TURN??

  • does a e30 m 316 (86') come standard with a limited slip differential?

  • That all depends on the options selected when the car was new, unless its been an optional extra or fitted afterwards as mentioned on the post to 905th below, I cannot say yes or no that, use the info below to find out if you have an LSD.

Infact, private message me your reg syc572(UK reg only) and ill check it on the bmw computers now for you.

  • just a quick question. do you know if my 1991 318is came with an limited or standard differential?

  • That will be standard 905th, you can find out for sure if you either burn off :D and see if its left 2 marks on the road or if its just 1 its not lsd, OR...you can jack the rear end up and spin a wheel...if the other side spins the same direction your in business, if it goes the opposite direction (which it probably will) its not an lsd.

Im not sure the 318is would have one standard, though it might have been an optional extra.

See what happens, sorry i cant help much more than that.

  • Yes, it is an optional extra...

  • Why didn't you just turn the propshaft and hold one of the final axels to notice the difference?

  • Because its very stiff to turn its the way they are.

  • do e30's come standard with a limited slip dif?

  • No, not all e30's unfortuantly. You can find LSD's on almost every untouched sport model, and all M3 models of the E30.

  • great video!

  • Thanks!

  • LSD isn't just for hippies anymore!

  • Damn right! lol

LSD in both senses drug or not costs a load of money, I've wrecked 12 tyres this year alone because of my LSD!

    lol

  • why is it that the LSD is rare on most of the vehicle?

  • LSD are rare becuase they are for sports/race usage they require more skill somewhat to keep the car pointing in the correct direction and although it may be funny to watch old margaret do a tank slapper down the street its not very practical and for that reason I'll guess thats why they dont appear on every vehicle plus they cost alot more to make!

Anybody who knows better than I please Correct me.

  • If the wheels are raised off the ground in a standard differential and you put the car in drive, will the wheels still spin in opposite directions?

  • No. They will spin the same direction, this is because there is no load on either wheel, for instance, you park on mud, half your car is on the mud and half not. On a non LSD equiped vehicle this can be a problem since the standard differential will be trying to put all of the power down on the wheel with less traction (The one on the mud), whereas on an lsd, mine for instance,

  • there is a 25% lock on the opposite wheel causing both tyres to spin the same direction, although the one on the mud will spin up the other 75% the other wheel is locking up 25% causing the power to go to both wheels at the same time. im not sure I explained this right.

This is a slightly dumbed down version of how it works.

Hope this is ok for you.

    Rich

  • PS, They are only spinning opposite directions because the power (from his hand) is going to the drive shaft, rather than being put in from the prop shaft. if he turns the prop shaft end they will spin the same way. but as you can see the difference between the 2 the lsd makes no difference.

    Cheers

  • Thanks.

  • Glad you like, this is from a bmw e30 if anybody wanted to know. sorry about the quality.

  • tyy for the info!!

  • oh yeah they do :), its on my e30 now :) we swapped because he was scraping his car as he bought a e36 :)

  • lsd rules
