  • I meant to say L. Pauling instead of C. Paul. Realised I made a mistake after I hit post.

  • I hear an early James Brown from the lead. Is that C. Paul leading? and weren't the 5 Royales on the King label around the same time as JB?

    The lead singer is Eugene Tanner, whose brother Johnny more often sang lead vocal. (Lowman Pauling was the bass singer and occasionally took the lead). Yes they were on King at the same time as JB.

  • That came out when much of the experimental sounds of R&B was taking place, where the 50's were crossing over to the 60's, in 1959 and 1960, it was most notable with Motown at their beginning, but also was occurring with other R&B in general as well.
