  • You'll never NEVER see anything like this in the US today. Too much red tape and bureaucracy.

  • God, what a ride! I never knew there was such a thing as a steam locomotive race for REAL, having seen such things only on TV and in the movies. Who won, by the way, or is this more for fun than actual racing? (Either way, it's awesome!)

Thanks a million for a posting this up, it really made my day!

  • Wow, that is a ride of a lifetime! Thanks for sharing!

  • were is that going? lithgow????

  • all i can say is i felt like a kid watching this video, wonderful video and the audio was breathtaking made me feel as if i was right there.

  • G'day--great videos. I rode this line when I first lived in OZ in 1970-71 and I know the area well. Steam was still in use on some lines back then and I made a trip from Melborne to Canberra and one leg of the trip was still powered with steam. I loved it. We left OZ in 73 but the memories come back with these videos. Ta mate!

  • such beauty!

  • Great footage, and the first time I've seen anything like this shot from one of the participating locos. Very educational, as well as fun!

  • So dang FAST!

  • is that Newcastle Ontario canada, or some where else???

  • @trainOholic Newcastle, Australia.

  • @trainOholic Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia.

  • Thats incredible.

Thanks to those who work so tirelessly preserving important aspects of our heritage - and often with little help (if not indifference) from government and other other authorities. Its unreal to see these machines working like that and those skilled men feeding coal into their hungry mouths. Awesome.

  • Fantastic video, seeing those locies at speed and right next to you! I note that all three have been retro-fitted with large American chime whistles. Just adds for fun to the video.

  • @NathanH5 Actually, all 3 Loco's had 5 chime whistle's when they were in regular servise

  • Exciting stuff, though that safety valve wants looking at, it isn't lifting properly

  • It really starts to get exciting at 4 minutes in! I wish they had something like this with steam here in the U.S. We have the Great Steamboat Race held annually in Louisville as part of the Kentucky Derby Festival, but we have lost one of our great contenders, the Delta Queen. It has been replaced by the Belle of Cincinnati.

Not only have we lost the Delta Queen, but also her sisters, the Mississippi Queen and the American Queen.

  • Who won? VBG

  • excellent video, brilliant subject, wish we had simmilar in uk

  • As a rule, I dislike steam train videos...but this was excellent! Thumbs Up+Favourited!

  • An astonishing display of power and speed from all three locomotives! What dedicated people to keep them running.

  • thats just awesome :D

  • Had a friend from the UK with me at Metford. He could not believe it !

  • Great video, thanks for putting it on. ClownWatcher you are obviously as ignorant as you are bad mannered.

  • This is brilliant. I was on the crew of 5029 Nunney Castle in the UK two weeks ago, would love to do something like this out of Paddington! Top notch! 5*

  • Awesome!

  • Great vid dude as allways. I was on 3526. We were robbed i tells ya robbed! I should have my vid up soon. Cheers

  • Another fine demonstration of your videography skills Bevan!

  • Phew!

That got my pulse racing! Wow! How did they get permission to do THAT?!?

Beautiful machines, wonderfully restored and doing what they were designed for, terriffic!

    Thanks for posting,

    John.

  • Good video, also good to see there's no shortage of fare-paying passengers to help fund the continued operation of these trains!

Also love the gunzels in the locomotive cabs! - No shortage of people for that job no doubt!

  • That was absolutely brilliant!

  • Utterly amazing and unique! Hats off to all involved!

  • for a technology that people say is dead it looks very much alive to me :)

  • The fireman on 3265 did a great job, another hard working Campbelltown driver

  • Thats just brilliant mate, ahh only in Australia, dont you just love the crew's laid back approach.

That made my day. Any idea how fast they were going and just look at the turnout at the end.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Love the driver with his feet up! Great video!
