Carbon credits are a method of imposing the true cost of carbon externalities in the markets. If there's a cost on carbon pollution, the businesses that can reduce their carbon byproducts, are incentivized to do so. The businesses that are most willing and needy of carbon credits, may purchase them, so that they can produce their essential goods even if it pollutes in the short term. The point is to put price on carbon, so that the market can perceive and react correctly.
Of course markets don't work prefectly. I would never allege something like that. However, markets do work, and in many roles much better than government (not everything of course, like healthcare or national defense).
And the fact that we have to impose the cost of carbon pollution, rather than the market figuring out it on its own, shows an important weakness of markets, doesnt it? Markets have three primary weaknesses; demerit goods, negative externalities and unknown negative externalities.

There's some info there. What I'm hearing is third party comentary and my conclusoins are based on that. Given that public funds were used to pay these guys then these emails should be public. I havent foudn them yet because we should all know where our $ is being wasted.

Losing their data to prevent independent verification of their models and conclusions. This followed years of refusing to provide such data to other scientists to test for replicable results.
Cherry-picking data to show their predetermined conclusion rather than letting the data drive the conclusion.
Suppressing scientific papers with data that challenges their global warming idea.
Attacking scientific journal editors who favor publishing papers that challenge their explanation.
Admission to destroying some of the data that contradict their explanation.

However, it is rather close to unbelieveable that they actually deleted it (and have no backups whatsoever), and even more unbelieveable that the data was not sent to a few dozen other scientists elsewhere who still have the data on their media somewhere.
Actually, it is. Hitting "delete" on an email deletes nothing. All corporations and institutions have daily network backups, and those tapes are kept. Also, even 'deleting' merely removes the file address. Most of the data is still there. Short of reformatting the drive, the data is still there. Don't tell me it isn't true.

Also, even with emails, some email clients do actually delete emails (though sometimes this is done periodically in large batches).
When you delete a file on a hard-disk, the data is not deleted, only the directory is changed. However, the data space on the disk is marked "empty" and subsequent saves write over the deleted data (not necessarily all at once though).

I've heard of guys like Piers Corbyn who although not 100% accurate has used magnetic / particle ray cycles from the sun to provide fairly accurate weather reports

I'm an environmentalist to the core. I believe in a post petrol economy and will fight with anyone for it..but not on the grounds of curbing CO2 emissions.
Sun/Moon & Earths angles have affected ocean currents and wind patterns all this time yet there is scant research into how those factors might be in play since 1970's (the decade that spawned the belief in global cooling)
Even if none of these ideas work it doesnt make the CO2 hypothesis right. We have more carbon and its cooling. Period

THAT is why we must debate. We probably agree with a clean tech revolution but I do NOT agree with carbon taxes or the need for "global government" as the best way to reduce emissions (which arent needed in my view). The problem is how do we raise living standards, stabilize population, revolutionize our economies, detoxify our water/land/air? Carbon credits? LOL...thats why we need to take this carbon hysteria off the table. Its government power grab masked as science paid by research grants

One final thing consensus doesnt equal accuracy. Scientists are like lemmings. They guard their reputations and dont want to look stupid to their peers. They color within the lines for the most part once they've reached a certain status. How many of these CRU documents were destroyed/ los that shouldve been reviewed by the "skeptic" community? Why dont they provide all the data rather than obscure it?

Genuine consensus, created by real the implementation of the scientific method, does carry enormous weight. If the whole world of climatologists who are professionals in what they do, says something is happening, then Ill listen.
The E-mails prove nothing. Some of the emails could have been conceivably destroyed because of personal dialogue which the scientists don't want to be exposed in the case someone demands them through the FOI act.
And the CRU data is not suspect. This can be verified.

The 1970s global cooling theories were proposed by a limited number of studies. Then inflated by media hype. It's incredible that this stupid misinformed myth is still repeated. Out the hundreds of studies published in 70s, few predicted cooling. Most predicted warming.
If sun or the moon were the cause of global warming, scientists would detect the forcing effect. But they haven't.

The conclusion that co2 is the primary driver of late 20th and early 21st century global warming is the result of the analysis and dismissal of other factors.
Piers Corbyns predictions are vague and difficult to verify. As are his allegations that he has won a large sum of money by betting on these predictions.

CBC radio had a program a week or so ago, Ideas or As It Happens. They had several proponents of AGW on, and one skeptic.
Anna Maria Tremonti did a real hatchet job on the guy. Point after point, she did her best to try and trip him up with rapid fire questions and arguments. So much for objective reporting where all sides get a chance to present their case.
I think Mz Tremonti should be ashamed of herself. And maybe FIRED.

I will feel differently about David Suzuki and his comrades if they refuse to address these fudged numbers and nefarious scientific activities.
Those folks who are acquainted with and comprehend the climategate evidence and yet stubbornly push ahead with their previous thinking are mentally impaired and should be discounted.
I've watched this unfold from day one and it is very telling how slowly our main stream media released the story.

2: temps have fallen the past 10 years while CO2 continues to rise.
3: periods of much warmer/cooler weather (and higher/lower CO2) have existed over 20,000+ years.
4: planets warm/cool together, which means warming/cooling is primarily caused by the sun.
We need 100% separation of science and state.

However, it is rather close to unbelieveable that they actually deleted it (and have no backups whatsoever), and even more unbelieveable that the data was not sent to a few dozen other scientists elsewhere who still have the data on their media somewhere.

Actually, it is. Hitting "delete" on an email deletes nothing. All corporations and institutions have daily network backups, and those tapes are kept. Also, even 'deleting' merely removes the file address. Most of the data is still there. Short of reformatting the drive, the data is still there. Don't tell me it isn't true.

12stringsforme: What they are saying has been deleted is the raw data that their claims are based upon, not emails.
Also, even with emails, some email clients do actually delete emails (though sometimes this is done periodically in large batches).
When you delete a file on a hard-disk, the data is not deleted, only the directory is changed. However, the data space on the disk is marked "empty" and subsequent saves write over the deleted data (not necessarily all at once though).

I know that you normally give things a few days before you make your thoughts public so I expect it of you. I wish I could say the same for the network that you work for. The CBC has said just about nothing in the two weeks since the story broke out. Do you think that if it weren't for the internet, that this story might have never come forth?
