Could you help me with something? The camera I am using would be the 4th. Canon. I have a cable to connect it from the camera to the computer (Firewire USB converter. Firewire cable to connect firewire camcorder to a USB port). When I plug the camera in, I get an "unrecognized device" error message.

It works for HDV also, which i have never heard of. Handy if one does not have a firewire port on the computer.

@angelito2351 HDV takes a long time to transfer, which can be a disadvantage if you're in a hurry. But you can also watch the video as it transfers, so you can review it, and that can be an advantage.

I have a canon eos 550d camera, and it lets me upload 'some' videos, and some not.. Do you happen to know why this is happening? I always use the usb ports to do this. The files that don't upload, they just appear as 0mbs on the place were i saved them, and they obviously won't play.. :(

@bacon680 Well, normally something should pop up asking you what you want to do. On Windows 7 it sometimes pops up *behind* windows you already have open, so check the taskbar. Otherwise, just open Windows Explorer or Apple Finder and you should see the SD card as an external drive. Open the folder called DCIM, and you should be able to find your clips, probably in a subfolder called "100VIDEO" or something similar. If still nothing, maybe the card isn't in far enough.

It's very easy to use and takes decent pictures: great for playing around with, or to take with you on the off-chance that you might see something funny or interesting to film. But for serious use, it's really a toy. It lacks all the basic features: exposure and focus settings, optical zoom, white balance and so on.

@cathplyr It can be done. If you don't have the right kind of video card on your computer, you can get a converter surprisingly cheaply: one end plugs into your VCR or camcorder, the other end into a USB port.

You may need a ieee 1394 firewire connection to the pc. ck to see if you have an 1394 port on your pc. if not you have to get a 1394 pci card and insert it to your motherboard.

Of course. You need a 4-pin to 4-pin connector. Seems that now, 4-pin ports are becoming the norm. I've even seen a computer with a 4-pin port on the front panel and a 6-pin port on the back.

Ok I have a Canon Powershot SD780 IS , and my sister lost the box with the instruction book and stuff in it . And I have an SD card with videos and pictures in it , and I'm trying to put it onto my computer . I've tried two ways , One way I put the SD card into my computer SD slot , and that way only uploaded my pictures BUT Not my videos . The Second way , I put my SD card into a USB Connector and put the USB connector into my USB slot , Opened the folder and dragged the video to my desktop
