It pretty much started to go all downhill when Moceanu came out with that ridiculous "Devil went down to Georgia" piece of American BS crap that the crowd went crazy for and the rest of the world went "huh?". After that- nothing but crap.
If the Soviets didn't boycott the 84 LA games, Mary Lou Retton would have been left in the dust by Mostepanova. It should have been Olga's shining moment! I doult if Mary Lou Retton would of even placed.
We Americans are to blame for what artistic gymnastics is today- POOP! We hijacked this beautiful sport from the Soviets and cranked out cookie-cut worthless routines in the name of club profits. The love of the sport is what oiled the machine's artistic value from the Soviets but now it's the O'mighty green buck that dictates it's artistc value from we Americans. I'm so ashamed! We should bow down to the Soviets and give the sport back with a deeply felt , humbling apology!
@Jay6459 Couldn't agree more. If you could spare the ranch and the cash that goes with it, to give to the Ukrainians along with giving the sport back to the Russians, I think pretty much everyone this side of the Atlantic would be extremely happy.

American gymnast don't know what it is to give their spirit to the sport, just their immense ego's, in search of their 15 minutes of self glory. It's an empty dream when no real soul was put into it. And it soon fades like a cat's fart. Keep the faith;)
This is how gymnastics used to be. Gymnasts in the 80's were a perfect blend of artistry and athleticism. The beauty of artistry has been completely lost.
It's almost ridiculous how graceful she is. And the Soviet choreographers! Everything in this routine is perfect to emphasize her lovely flexibility and legs. Ugh, so much love!
