As a parent, I cannot sit at the dinner table with my 3 children, tell them that they can't have dessert until they finish their dinner, say that I want all of them to be able to enjoy the ice cream, and then allow one of them to eat ice cream without finishing while forcing the others to finish first. Either my stated desire for the delight of all of my children is disingenuous and I am unjust and play favorites, or I am just lying to them.
While I have a great deal of respect for Dr Sproul, the problem that I have with his first illustration, is that God is not just the judge, he is also the lawmaker. As I understand Calvinism, All men come before God the Judge as guilty, but He punishes some and releases others at His whim. The creater and enforcer of the law cannot honestly say that he desires all men to be free from punishment, and then sentence guilty some and free guilty others at will.
