I picked up Daydream Nation new for under $6. DGC has severely budget priced most of SY's back catalog. The only copy I owned was a very worn and used cassette copy I may have picked up used in the 90's. Daydream Nation is their best album, and probably the best album of the 80's by any band.

@SPYLAGO indie is the designation for bands who dont record for a major label. SY was an independant label band until 1990, then after a handful of indie releases aside from the geffen contract, they again became an 'indie' band and record for matador now.

using that term to define the way the music sounds has always pissed me off too, by that rationale im a fucking 'indie' artist... as were black flag... as was Tricky... the three of us sound nothing alike.

Some prominent indie bands: The Smiths (started indie music), Stone Roses (revolutionized it), Elliot Smith (great), The Strokes (also great) just for a few names, there're more. Sonic youth; however, is not indie music (I don't consider them being indie, but I can see why people can see that bridge, especially with some of their newer stuff)

One of my fave SY songs off my fave SY album!

I love the sound of that Fender Jazzmaster Thurston plays.

Like Thurston, I too first got to dig that particular guitar's unique sound from hearing Tom Verlaine play the then obscure model Fender so well in the band Television. Tom 's great, but I think SY extended the possibilities & potentials of that & other guitars far beyond Television's wildest dreams. Verlaine himself became a big SY fan & is Thurston's jamming pal today.
