Wacking and chasing will only turn a defensive animal more to the aggresive side. If you want to tame your iguana sit by the enclosure more often so it gets use to you. Once the iguana stops freaking out, you could maybe start to gently pat him. If your worried about getting bitten u could always get a pair of bite proof gloves from pet shops.
@ExplosiveDonuts I know once they reach a certain size they need more space then what most vivs can offer but still I'm pretty sure when they are the same size as the one on the video you ain't supposed to use chicken wire. Stop me if I'm wrong but can't they hurt them self on chicken wire??

No reptile likes to be handled- some are TOLERANT . Reptiles have no emotion they cannot express affection. The best way to keep your animal tame is to not to handle them. Do not hit your iguana with a broom and chase him. It is not a dog - it does not have memory's of behavior.

First of all, Iguanas are arboreal lizards that live high in trees! Those cages are more then likely stressing them out because they are too small. Their cages need to be taller then they are long with plenty of climbing branches. Further more, plenty of handling and human contact from a young age will break them from being a terror as they get older. I highly go against hitting your Iguana with anything! There's not one veterinarian that will condone that type of interaction with your pet.
dont ever listen to expert villages' crap. if you want to learn how to care for reptiles and other animals, go to an animal expo near you. the breeders there are the real experts and you can get whatever you need to know.

i think i cought a baby iguana. I want to keep it and have it as a pet but im not sure if its an iguana :( and its small. I found it (i live in miami fl, today is cold) in the cold and could barely walk it couldnt even try to run away so i cought it and have it in the warmth. I would like to know how little baby iguanas look like to see if it matches the descriptions. And also what should i feed it?

Iguanas are up and down herps and need to climb for exersise, properly metabolizing food and over all health.They need to have options of temp ranges to choose from in a very large enlcosure.They climb trees and we need to mimic this in our hubandry as best we can. 4 ft iguana - cage should be as high as your ceiling will allow! or atleast six feet high.Hope people have carpentry skills or extra bedrooms before they purchase iguanas or any lizard that gets "Big"

The iguana is still a baby/youngster. The cage is far big enough for now, most people dont want their two foot lizards in an 8 foot tall cage. And this person obviously knows alot about iguanas, so I think theyre probably caring for him just fine =)
I bought a female small green iguana and it been a week or 2, and it is still hiding from me, when i enter the kitchen it hide or stop its movement and watch me, its head is getting brownish and sometimes it return green, so how do can i tell her that i am friendly? i put her food in a bowl and leave it for the rest of the day, i want it to be normal like other ig, walk doesnt hide and doesnt whip! No reptile likes to be handled- some are TOLERANT . Reptiles have no emotion they cannot express affection. The best way to keep your animal tame is to not to handle them. Do not hit your iguana with a broom and chase him. It is not a dog - it does not have memory's of behavior.

Me and my brother got Baby Green Iguanas,on friday agust 27,but my brother's iguana is really agressive and he hits you with its tail and it won't allow anybody to touch it or even get it .My dad says its scared but The iguana has been here for a day.Please help me to get the scareness or agressive out of that iguana,Please?

first off you never reach over top of your iguana it makes them feel as their being attack due to their number one predator which is certain birds.. second whacking with a broom and chasing them!!! seems to me she wants to make your iguana hate you... their similar to dogs with enough caring and loving attention they'll warm up quickly...

First of all, Iguanas are arboreal lizards that live high in trees! Those cages are more then likely stressing them out because they are too small. Their cages need to be taller then they are long with plenty of climbing branches. Further more, plenty of handling and human contact from a young age will break them from being a terror as they get older. I highly go against hitting your Iguana with anything! There's not one veterinarian that will condone that type of interaction with your pet.

Here's a word of advice, don't listen to this "expert" or any of her reptile videos. I'm not downing Expertvillage (the guy from the pet store is mostly correct on most things), but this lady doesn't know what she's talking about. My favorite video of hers is were she showed a sick beardie in a tiny tank littered with poop, like it was okay or something.

i think i cought a baby iguana. I want to keep it and have it as a pet but im not sure if its an iguana :( and its small. I found it (i live in miami fl, today is cold) in the cold and could barely walk it couldnt even try to run away so i cought it and have it in the warmth. I would like to know how little baby iguanas look like to see if it matches the descriptions. And also what should i feed it?

You absolutely right! Iguanas are up and down herps and need to climb for exersise, properly metabolizing food and over all health.They need to have options of temp ranges to choose from in a very large enlcosure.They climb trees and we need to mimic this in our hubandry as best we can. 4 ft iguana - cage should be as high as your ceiling will allow! or atleast six feet high.Hope people have carpentry skills or extra bedrooms before they purchase iguanas or any lizard that gets "Big"

Listen,all Im saying is this is the wrong person to ask for advise from about the proper husbandry of iguanas.She may have the obvious basics down,iguanas are pretty durable and half of it is crap.I am glad that her basic advise saved your iguana thats what I mean by "durable" to a point.This also shows that you were not even ready for an iguana if he almost died and you needed to rely on her for "just the basics".I have 15 Years experience,or you can just listen to the comments-they tell truth!

i agree my iguana has a 6'x4'x3'deep and that cage is gonna need to get biger cause they grow so fast :D i dont think i would hit my iggy in my opinion it would make him more resent you LOL. i have 3 iguana's and to try and tame them is realy hard for me, i have many scratches on my arm from them i clip the tips of their nails but its stil sharp as hell. maybe i should post some vids on my set up and my iggy's,bearded dragon,leopard gecko's, ball pythons, paruvian red tail boa, red ear slider

The iguana is still a baby/youngster. The cage is far big enough for now, most people dont want their two foot lizards in an 8 foot tall cage. And this person obviously knows alot about iguanas, so I think theyre probably caring for him just fine =)

I bought a female small green iguana and it been a week or 2, and it is still hiding from me, when i enter the kitchen it hide or stop its movement and watch me, its head is getting brownish and sometimes it return green, so how do can i tell her that i am friendly? i put her food in a bowl and leave it for the rest of the day, i want it to be normal like other ig, walk doesnt hide and doesnt whip! p.s. DON"T PICK UP anywhere close to the tail they can let it go and it breaks off very very easily but usually a clean break you don't do much exept clean the area it will grow back.................raybenz

yes darklord, iguana's change with age. young...really green...older...not so grenn, sometimes even orange. if they are dark ing color...they are too cold. if they are white in color...they are too hot. they will change color with temperature changed almost instantly. they change color throughout the year as well...and throughout the years check out my morphues as myspace . com / morpheusbrown

wot i found works is to let it sleep where ever it wants leave the tank open block anything it can get in 2 but u will have the problem i have... it wont sleep in its tank but it will let me handle it it doesn't run away anymore or whip just keep talkin to it and offer it food..... put it on ur shoulder and walk round ur house mine likes that i went out side with it and it didn't try to jump off me or anything think we r bonding lol...mine is only 9 month old or so

2.Gather some dry coconut branches an light it
3.Put the knocked out iguana in the fire
4.The fire will loosing up the iguana skin use a knife an scrape off the skin gentle
5.when the skin is properly taken off cut it open ant take out its stomach contents wash out the iguana then its ready for cooking

NEVER pick them up that way because thats how predators would come at them, what you do is slowly bring your hand under them and pick them up but when they freak out just slowly stop but keep your hand there and continue once settled

yea i heard this worked i tried it when my iguana charged at me in the hall way...i couldnt get to the broom in time though cuz he was gaining on me...............so i just shot it.......then my dog started barking so i threw a brick at it.....which set the cat off so i nailed it to the wall and singed it with a zippo lighter...
