I agree with MattTheSpratt, THESE kind of games are called Horizontal Shmups (Shoot em ups) They are their own genre, and shmups differ in many ways such as point systems, upgrades, how you go through the level, levels, styles, ect...

From the video I don't see how the ships are different besides very basic points which could better be merged as a single ship
