I'd never heard of Arthur Murray until a friend said he was going for a dance course there with the opportunity to become an instructor if he "passed the course". I immediately thought that was a bit dodgy coz why would they make prospective instructors pay? It would be easier to just interview dance teachers & employ them. So he paid the hundreds of dollars for the course and now he's a qualified instructor & gets a commission per student.
I'm wondering, if it's such a good Dancestudio, why they are dancing OFF BEAT?? They're dancing their Cha-Cha-Cha (so their chassé) on '3-and-4' :-S And as far as I know, this chassé should be danced on the "4-and-1"... So it isn't "1-2-cha-cha-cha" BUT it HAS TO BE "2-3-cha-cha-cha"...
in my opinion, arthur murray is a decent dance studio because they don't teach the international steps of how to really dance, but they do teach you the easier versions that have some relation to the real dances. arthur murray usually accommodates older people who have a very hard time learning the steps. these easier steps make it easier for older people to learn how to dance and have fun w/ other ppl.
and i agree w/ lilhappyfeethollah12. i think most people that don't have much experience in dance would prefer learning in an environment where they know how to lead and follow.
If you have ever seen an Arthur Murray Proffessional Dance Competition you would probably think different. Dance is a beautiful thing, meant to bring people together. There is the constant battle between international vs American. There are incredible dancers in both styles. Movement is movement, and good dancing is good dancing. If you look at many Arthur Murray Studios their instructors are qualified as judges in both American and international.
And if you have the opportunity to see great dancing, lets just mention Bob Powers and Julia Gorchakova...Arthur Murrays Employees. 12 time undefeated us champions and world mambo champions. There is good and bad in every organization. So it might be a good idea before you tell people an international dance studio is horrible, to do a little bit more research.
NO!!! Arthur Murray is a horrible studio company!!! I had my share of experience. With 11 years of dance experience take my advice any one and do not take classes at Arthur Murray. They try to teach you BASIC (even the "harder" classes) dance steps you can even learn online with the least amount of class time and the most possible amount of money. Its a disgrace to the dance community!!!!!!
Arthur murray develops quality dancers. Anyone can watch a surgery be performed but does that make them qualified to operate. Yes you can learn steps on the internet, but does your computer teach you how to hold you partner, lead, follow or move your body. You can learn steps a dime a dozen but to actually have a realtionship on the floor is something completly different. I'm sorry you did not see the value in what they had to offer.
Arthur Murray teaches you basic steps because they want you to have good and firm foundation!... you can learn any figures anywhere but it won't be good if you don't have a good background
I usually don't care much for ballroom...but I LOVED this routine....you should post this on SalsaDynastyDOTcom...street or ballroom....we'd love to see it!!

Any one who thinks Arthur Murray is a respectable dance studio is not educated in dance! And are the dancers in this video dance teachers??!!??
