  • Great vid.what variety did you plant? And out of interest haw many fords have you got?

  • Cheers. Variety is Konsort - a KWS seed. Its only my second year growing it and i used the same variety then. It did well especially with such a wet year when the silk came out. As for the Fords, there is 6 of them!! Got a bit of hay to cut down in the next few weeks when it drys up so will get a video of them mowin, balin etc!! Black reek everywhere, lol Why do u ask?

  • Just wondering really. We stopped maize this year because of two difficult years and change of calving pattern.Love to see the fords in action.Small square bales I presume you will be making and mowing with a drum mower?

  • Yep small square bales Claas Markant 55 and Vicon 8ft disc mower. Getin excited just thinkin about it.... hahahaa

  • Great video, what day was it that you got this planted? That lime sure is dusty, I'm glad we don't have to do that here. We're about 80% now and looking to finish up this week.

  • 11th May - 2 weeks later than last year - missed out due to bad weather, at that stage it was safer in the bag. Its called pink lime or magnesium limestone. Its not half as dusty as white lime. If we were spreading white lime we would of had to stop cause of the wind. How do you control your ph levels?

  • Our soil pH levels run between 7 and 8, probably average 7.7. We got our barley (108ac) planted May 5-8 which is two weeks later than normal and started planting corn/maize (134ac) on May 12-15 which is pretty much on shedule for us. Got 90ac planted and just waiting on some heavy clay ground to be fit for the cultivator. We also cover every acre going into corn in the fall with manure and again in the spring before planting which takes a bit longer. Do you just keep planting around thefield?

  • You are lucky. Around these parts every 4 - 5 years around 1 t/acre is applied to keep the ground sweet. Fields arent usually planted round and around, its just the field was on the verge of being ready and the headlands were raw so the contractor kept going around to remove the chances of compaction at the headlands. Thoughtful enough I thought.

  • Nice vid!! getting a bit close with the grubber lol.

  • cheers - aye near pooed meself when i realised how close i got!!! Is that ur trailer in pigpen's video?

  • No that's his new 1 but you can see the auto door of ours in the shed on the left plus it looks like he had the camera sitting on ours at 1 stage.

  • ah right - i see now. Where did he get the sock for the back shoot - tryin to get one gathered up for myself!! Some lump of a shed too.

  • Thought me ears wer burning there!! :)Nice vid, is that Cleet drilling? Got that grain sock from Ulster PVC (Ballinderry)
