i can't remember if i told you about this, but I get free guitar lessons as part of my music courses, and I have to say that my teacher has really helped fix up my technique.. I think you could really benefit from a couple of lessons with a good teacher, just to fix up a couple of things (it will stop those cramps, etc)

Haha yeah, dry leads are definitely no good. You played the solo well, but the tone almost makes it ugly sounding.  It's amazing how much reverb and delay can help fix that.

What kind of amp are you using, by the way? Is it a tube amp?

the tone making it ugly sounding - that's mostly from the way he's playing i'm afraid (sorry Rick!)

Reverb and delay can make things sound cool if used properly, but they should never be used to hide bad tone and/or sloppy playing

Can't say I entirely agree with you, man. It's impossible to sound good with a tone that bad - I hate to sound harsh, but there's nothing he COULD do to make up for how god-awful this lead tone is. (I didn't phrase it this harshly before out of politeness, but I feel like my point needs to be made)

Of course, I agree that it's important not to hide behind reverb/delay, but a good tone IS needed to sound good. There's no way around that.

Hey, you could be right. Honestly, my intonation is pretty terrible, so maybe I can't tell for sure. What I DO know is that his tone is absolutely terrible, and he could improve it tremendously without much difficulty. I disagreed with your point only because you said the tone wasn't bad. Even with good playing, it's so hard to sound good if your tone is so bad.
