The relative dirtiness of even the most advanced diesels worries some researchers, who argue that the resulting soot (which they term "black carbon") may be a key factor in global warming. According to a 2002 Stanford University study, even if all diesels were designed to meet California's emissions standards, diesel cars could still warm the globe more than petrol cars over the next half-century.
they produce very little CO2. Diesel is about 40% more energy dense than gasoline which is why diesels get better fuel economy. The soot particles in the exhaust would actually contribute to cooling the atmosphere much in the same way a volcano would. In the upper atmosphere ice crystals which reflect sunlight can only form if they have hydrocarbons to stem from. It takes dust to make rain.
If you think its so clean why dont you put your mouth on the exhaust and just breathe the gases; carbon monoxide carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, aldehydes including benzene and formaldehyde hydrocarbons polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, carbon etc.
Formaldehyde is the stuff they put in dead bodies and thats what they will put in you if you were to breath that stuff you say is so clean.
those diesel smoke because they don't have particulate filters. and so not all the carbon is getting burnt off. stock everyday trucks will not smoke if they are built after 2000.
