  • Greeks should take back their role in the world. Greek rules. PS: I'm not greek.

  • Definately the most beautiful of all the opening ceremonies. I'm not greek either or even a fan of greeks.

  • shut the fuck up and quit arguing about the superiority of any ceremony.we as greeks did sth apropriate to our history and culture and the chinese did sth for their own.the difference is that the greek was a more sentimental-symbolic one while the chinese a more dynamic one.plus it is much easier for the westerners to identifie with greek culture.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the more high pitched announcer's comments thru out the ceremony are annoying as!!!!

  • MIS RESPENTOS PARA GRECIA Y SU CULTURA!

  • SORRY BUT THE BEST CEREMONIES WAS BARCELONA 92... NO TECHNOLOGY JUST SOUL AND TALENT!!!!

  • @tallrangersx With that mentality then i have to say.. that the very first Olympic Games that were held back in Ancient Olympia in 776 BC were the best of ALL time!

No technology, just pure soul and talent... The world advances my friend and we can't stop that. It is not bad to use the modern means in order to provide a beautiful ceremony and also use it to show the history of the games and of mankind. The trick is not to loose our human nature and get sucked by the technology. All with measure.

  • I feel sorry for American audiences of NBC, even something as beautiful as the Olympic opening ceremony is interrupted by ads every few minutes :( Such a shame for american television

  • This was the most best opening of ...............everything

  • the best opening ceremonies i have ever seen....!

  • @korcariyt if you knew a little bit about history you'd know that we suffered a lot of massacres byt turks or albanians which still aren't officialised...also if you knew about countries and geography you would know that Macedonia is actually in the borders of Greece and a geographical department of it...all about Macedonian name started in 1919 when greeks that lived in Serbia and Bulgaria where forced back to Greece and Bulgarians in Greece to their motherland..

  • I'm not saying that greeks are superior or anything like that but before you come to any conclusion read first and do not hear the one side...we have a great history and you at least have to respect that...idk where you're from and where you read all these but no country is innocent however some have done much more terrible things than we did in the name of diplomacy...so please just be careful on what you're saying because you don't live in Greece and udk the situation with all the immigrants

  • @korcariyt and obviously udk the situation with the turks...read some books and articles and then you'll know who invades whom...and which country is provocative...I'm not a rasist and I have a lot of foreing friends but I can see that you are and I honestly dk why...try to be objective...it's for the best

    thx

P.S. please learn that we don't have President but Prime Minister there's a big difference...but you'll never know these slight details unless u READ...

  • I doubt london will top the athens and beijing olympic opening ceremony... Their show in the closing ceremony of beijing olympic proves that they are not going to present a breathtaking opening ceremony... Unlike china their show in the closing ceremony of athens is spectacular...

  • There are 2 types of human 1)Greeks 2)And those who want to be Greek

  • The music is just amazing ! One of the best I have ever listened tO ! And of course a wonderful ceremony, the best of all !

  • She made it happen...:)

  • And they said Greece couldn't do it!

  • @dragonlady1970, "they" have been completely silent since 2004 =P

  • @dragonlady1970

BUT THE STILL PAYING 4 THIS !!! GREECE IS BROKE HAS HELL

  • @camrussia no of course! the problem is elsewhere...

  • @camrussia Every nation is going broke. The current economic system doesn't work.

  • @camrussia If only your English could make a sense....!

  • @margo3883

    greece is fuck up!!!!

  • @camrussia We've been through worst situations and we are stil here. Three thousand years of civilization. Still at the same land, still calling "helios" the sun and "thalassa" the sea.Our essentials haven't change name for the last 3000 years.Greeks will still be here 2000 in the future, when your country will be only a memory in History books.

  • @margo3883 but mean while greece is fuck up as hell ! wish u the very best for you country!!!!!!

  • @camrussia

You don't seem to know us. You don't know how many times we were as fucked up as we are today. Or even worse, that is. ;-)

Well friend, ours is not the thinking in quartals and years but in decades and centuries. We go down and we come up again, over and over again. Because we are able to eat shit and smile, to have nothing and laugh, or even to starve and at the same time think about the beuaty of a theorem of mathematics. Strange people, indeed. Completely insane. ;-)

    Be lucky!

  • @kickniko i know what been fucked up is about am half russia but i was born in the 2nd poorest country ofl;atin american and i know about this stuff but what makes the difference between ur country and mine is that we know what we can afford

  • @camrussia you're right..the country you're born is the second poorest country of latin american..the truth is that you all now what you can afford..but you don't have history... OUR history :) i am proud to be greek and you sould be so unhappy you're coming from two countries which destroy the humankind day after day!

  • @lovegreece1000

u said we know what we can afford so thats a difference between ur country and mine , and am not unhappy am having of been part of 2 cultures, am just saying that we all that money u spent u can do better things in greece and maybe avoid this recession

  • @camrussia

Guys you're talking about economics. But who cares about money when our life sucks?

The biggest difference between Greece and Northern europeans is that we work to live when Germans live to work

    Greeks,enjoying life for 5000 years

  • I love being Greek. We created Western Democracy, Science, Philosophy. Γιατί να είναι οτιδήποτε, αλλά ελληνικά;!

  • We... didn't.

It tears my heart out, but we did not create science. Nor philosophy. Those things emerged amongst every people. As for western democraty, well... it changed a lot, didn't it ?

Parolo pou agapo tin Ellada pio poli apo oti boro na po, i alitheia menei alitheia.

  • i remember watching this on tv. i am chinese american and I was so proud watching beijing host the olympics. but this opening ceremony... really captured me. beijing just took what was beautiful about athens and made it their own.

thank you greece for the olympics.

  • @korcariyt I know more about it than you think.

  • @korcariyt oh, i see why you say that, youre from Albania. To me, Greece is the motherland of western culture and civilization.

  • Comment removed

  • @korcariyt and I would agree with you, yes, indeed Greece has racism, a backward mentality on most matters (such as gay people, like myself), and so on. However, what are you suggesting? Are you suggesting that Albania is more advanced a nation than Greece? Or that you deserve to be independent and we dont? And what makes you think that Greek history starts in 1831? Greeks played a major role in the Byzantine Empire...

  • @korcariyt lol go learn some history stupid albanian. apart from stealing greeks and italian houses and killing serbs find other hobbies

  • Comment removed

  • @korcariyt best friends of greece is iran and north korea? greece has fought FOR the freedom of south korea. you have no idea about the global history. i am bored replying to the rest bullshit your empty head creates. go kill yourself. no more answers for you

  • Comment removed

  • @korcariyt fuck you

  • @korcariyt listen close dick...not mied nations...at least we got ancestors to judge i fwe r their ofsprings or not...and our dna hasnt changed at all fo 3 000 years...so shut your fuckin mouth...greece is an ancient nation with long ancient histoy that u will never have...only greece egypt and china goes so way back..got it..?

  • @korcariyt you talk the biggest load of shit :) You have insecurities, obviously you hate Greece your Albanian :) Lets keep it that way :) peace with Albanians is not on the top of any Greek's agenda. As for you thinking modern Greek's are shameful let me remind you of the ottomans and their f**k all contribution to Greece and her excellence. Under the turks the Greeks turned into shameful beings:) Do you not think their is a correlation between modern Albania and Turkish occupation of Albania.

  • @ricksterga Greece and Italy, don't forget it. Don't forget several things were born in Rome while others in Athen.

  • @MatheusStradivari I would have to disagree. My own government, a hegemony (USA), unlike Rome, an Empire, is based on Greece (Alexander the Great). Next time you go do anything methodical (Math, medicine, architecture, writing, art, debating, politics, the very roots of our languages) remember Greece, our methodologies are based on Plato, Socrates, Pericles, and Aristotle. Sorry to say but, Rome was a pagan copy of Greece. Greece, I love you!

  • @ricksterga No way man. the LAW SYSTEM, the STATE as it is, everything was born in Rome. If you have a legal system, a political state (senate, forum) you should thank Rome, everything was created in Rome. The greek philosophy served as a basis for the process, but in Rome things were created as they are today. And also, greek culture and roman culture were both developed together, speacially during the Hellenistic period, and they were roots of MY language, not yours.

  • @MatheusStradivari your language? English is 60% french, therefore, it is Latin too. England (Bretonia) was part of Rome too. And my mother is Spanish, so I have as much Greco-Latin roots as you do. sorry, buddy. and yeah, you just proved my point, Greek culture was the base for your culture, and any culture from Russia to the Holly Roman Empire, to Portugal and their daughter nations.

  • @ricksterga You were regarded as barbarians/germanics. You were never considered a civilizied country, not even today as US is badly seen by other nations.

  • @MatheusStradivari really? Then why in hell would the Romans build Londinium, and build a wall across Scotland to keep the pincts out? you better not even get me started, I probably know a lot more about my history than you do.

  • @MatheusStradivari Excuse me? Not regarded as a civilized nation? Just remember this everytime you spend a euro, for the rest of your life: It is thanks to the Marshall Plan that your country is not a 3rd world shit hole. Your people'd still be immigrating to Argentina, and other countries had it not been for us. USA has accomplished what no other nation has in the history of humanity. So, it is thanks to us you are able to express yourself freely right now. How dare you!

  • @ricksterga Marshal plan was for Greece a disaster, and I want to remind you that except the expired cheese that USA, Marshal plan was an alibi to sent to Greece weapons to the right political temas that were supporting the king. in order a civil war to take place... And it happened...

  • @ricksterga USA has accomplished what no other nation has in the history of humanity. You made the world an insecure and dark place!!! You are practising raw terrorism to other nations and you treat your weakest allies as slaves!!! This is indeed a great achievement...hahahahahaha!!!!

  • @DespinaKouros shut the fuck bitch, you dont know what you are talking about. dont tell me the european union treats the romanians, bulgarians, pols, and your people as equals - cause i live in europe and i see what happens here. you idiots want to be like us for a reason, never will though, thanks to jealous dorks like you...ever! until you change your stupid mindset. as slaves? hahaha youre a slave

  • @ricksterga @ YOU CAN BE AGRESSIVE AND BRUTAL AS MUCH AS YOU WANT!!! SO KEEP ON EXPOSING YOUR STUPIDITY!!! YOU KNOW SHIT ABOUT EUROPE! YOU PROBABLY WENT THERE FOR VACATIONS AND YOU GOT EXCPERT?! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR COUNTRY YOU FOOL...AS FOR SLAVERY...YOU ARE THE BIGGEST ONES!!! CAPTIVATED IN YOUR OWN STUPIDITY AND UNREASONABLE EGOISM!!! SLAVES TO THE FED!!! ANTE GEIAAAAAA!!!!

  • @DespinaKouros i dont understand your broken english bitch, extrapolate

  • @DespinaKouros sorry then...I'll write the only language you understand...mououououou...Oh! and bitch is your mother!!!

  • @mpidis64 right on!

  • @mpidis64 χαλάζι μητέρα Ελλάδα!

  • @MatheusStradivari Greece and Italy are a case - study. Two unique countries that were representing different mentalities and different interpretation of the same things. Two peninsulas, limited by the sea with a mountaneous natural borders on the north, both mediterranean, and wombs of civilization, should find themselves again and start forgeting the great schism that cutted their ties for centuries.

  • @konig82new so true!!! totally agree!

  • xajidakis....

  • Greece is a great country :)) I love greece...

  • Como tengo ganas de estar en unos Juegos Olímpicos pero no solamente ir si no ganar.

  • what is the name of the song in the part of the guy in the boat? it isn´t the greek anthem, please tell me, i need the name of the song for a ceremony!!! and where to download!!!

  • The title is Nihterinos Peripatos - Nocturnal stroll - Manos Hadjidakis and the Album is Dekapede Esperini. Please check itunes

  • huh, did i say anythin about englnds 2012 games? no i didnt! every1 can say their opinion! seriously, u need to get a life mate, if ur soooo angry about my comment!

  • not angry just giving my opinion about your comment if your so offended then seriously get a life...Erm beijing is a human rights disaster you don't even know the facts, pollution, rioting and tibet they disgraced the olympics and thats f**king hard to do but low and be hold they did-learn the facts behind beijing!!!!!

  • and i would laugh if london came through with such an amazing show and everything totally to do with its cuture since its had so much criticism about 2012, id love to see it do really well!

  • lol, i guess ur rite, tho 2012 may go simply, it can still have a lot to offer :) newtons theory of gravity and stuff like tht, tht would be interesting to see lol

  • let me give you a lesson on the beijing's Olympics-olympics is about human rights, coming together as nations to respect each other-Police silenced tibetans and anyone who was outspoken-not very olympic-Olympic's is about embracing new world issues like global warming and beijing was dubbed pollution capital of the world-Rioting surronding the flames where banned freedoms taken away and it was even stopped how olympic is that--Tell me friend china used olympics to show its might and dominance...

  • ok rite, i kno about the pollution and human rights taken away and everything, but tht doesnt stop it form being an awesome opening ceremony.

  • proud to be GREEK!

  • the best opening ceremony of the olympics so far... got to see how london will surpass this feat in 2012

  • the beautiful opening ever....

  • China's Olympic ceremony was spectacular. It was on a grand scale and showed power, organization and grandiosity. They tried to impress, but you still can't deny the culture of that country and their history, which is what they tried to show to the world.

Athen's show was about simplicity and heart. You can't compare Athens's ceremony to China's, they each had different purposes.

  • Yeah, Athens showed culture and tradition, while China showed they're "wow" factor, and their artistic value. I personally liked Athen's opening ceremony cause it was beautiful and culture-rich

  • Ellines min tous akoute.... Itan i pio fanastiki teleti stin istoria twn Olympiakwn Agwnwn...

Some people like turks and other uneducated bastards are jealous of us because in 2004 we proved what we can do!!!!

  • Not to forget the most important thing of all. Uniting in peace.

  • Come on :) not much? They filled a stadium with water :) I really like this one better than the Chinese one cause it may not use huge masses of people it still impresses greatly.

  • @liondrake - Yes. 2008 Chineses was too militaristic, but what do you expect from a Communist country.

Long life Greece! I am very proud to be a Greek-American. I plan to return to Athens next year with my mother.

I hope you understood, my Greek is not very good!

Ελπίζω ότι κατανοείτε. ελληνικά μου είναι πολύ καλή

  • @schs1977 If you have A job in Greece ok than go back, but without work in this times its hard to live there. or you have enough mony then spend it in Greece :D

  • @GermanoEllinas - I agree that the world economy is very tough. Governments have promised its citizens everything! But those promises are never kept. There is not free in this world but maybe the air we breath! By the way, I am from Greek, my father was from Athens, his father was from Germany!

  • @schs1977 Ohh from Germany???your grandpa was he a "arian" germand ?,did he lived in greece after ww2?

  • @GermanoEllinas - No he was not an aryan! But I can see your grandmother was one of Hitler's Wh*re, you DICKHEAD

  • @liondrake

This is the best olympics opening ever. The projection of values of freedom of thought, of action, of love with the setting, people, script is simply marvelous. Chinese one is spectacular but has zero soul, just a bunch of robotic soldiers moving around like zombies that tell you their labour rate is cheap.

    Btw Im chinese.

  • @Konig1985 My point exactly. No offense to China.

  • @liondrake I think the simplicity (if you can use a word like this) of the ceremony was a greater symbol than the ceremony in China. It was the simplicity of the ancient olympics. It was just incredible!

  • can't expect much? It was the best ever!

  • You are so jealous because this was an elegant, very beautiful opening... simple yet very spectacular AND MEANINGFUL! Not like the totalitarian show we watched in Beijing...

  • rwmiosyn ur comment reflects totally my opinion!for the western the beijing ceremony was like a militaristic show...

  • The best opening ceremony till now.

Wasn't trying to impress like the Beijing using the masses of people like pawns.

In Greece we say "The measure for everything is the human" - not the masses, that is...

    And "Measure is essential"

In China they probably lost it - the value to the individual human being AND the measure .

  • This is what Greece looks like:

A child navigating on a paper boat.

Scared maybe, yet put on a brave face and sails off against all odds...

  • damn i wish i had a big paper boat like dat kid in the beginning lol

  • Beijing and Athens opening ceremonies were just amazing, but I really don´t have a lot of expectation about London 2012 after that poor handover ceremony. I hope they prepare something great.

  • i have to admit i cried watcing the opening cermony. the amount of pride i felt.

  • i have to agree with everyone the american commentators are very anoying

  • Greece the birthplace of big ideas--- WOW a massive statement standing ovation xxxxx luv for hellas

  • just beautiful

  • Do you know where can I buy this DVD??

Thx for posting this video btw....

    =)

  • I'm so proud of my history!

History of Greece - history of the world!
