comparing AC/DC and VH is like comparing apples to oranges. AC/DC heavy metalized the blues, yes the blues. Essentially a blues band where as VH is more of a next step to and influenced by 50's and 60's based rock "and alcohol". Both bands are great in thier own rights, don't get me wrong. I love them both but there is no way to compare the two intelligently.
@kendawg17 AC/DC is heavily influenced by the blues. Listen to Angus` solos , it`s blues cranked to 10 thru a Marshall. "The Jack", "Gone Shootin","Night Prowler" , blues based hard rock
Because ACDC is really just flat out rock n roll, hardcore rock! So they viewed van halen not as being as hard rock, and pop was very different back then
I know, why would AC/DC call VH pop? Hahah. They both have radio friendly tunes as well as a raw hard edge. Both have amazing guitar players, both write great original tunes..I think AC/DC likes to view themselves as a little more pure and prob view VH as more selling out maybe? You can go into any bar and always hear "Shook me all night long" and "Jump" I view them as equal bands. Both have had underground as well as mainstream success.
Probably what they meant was that they were more mainstream, I don't think mainstream is necessarily a bad thing, and also pop doesn't mean that it means today.
@satchitysatch I dont think there is any video save for the BBC UK spot that was done on Donnington 84. That featured interviews with VH and AC/DC. The only clip I have seen is Hot for Teacher, which should be up here somehere
@eatsleepgolf Eh, just depends what they are taking. lol When your amped up, it may sound fast to the audience, but its just the rhythm that they were in that night.
@eatsleepgolf That's hard to explain. For some reason, every time VH played this tune live, the tempo ALWAYS sounded much faster than the recorded version--it always sounded like the band was rushing through it for some reason (watch the "83" US Festival version for an example of that). I've always puzzled over why that is. The definitive live version of this tune is Oakland "81".
@eatsleepgolf its called adrenaline since you cany handle Rock.....for you, " Wham " videos are down the hall....right beside a door that says Adnoydall/Janitor!!
They just need to speed it up a little.

I wish they had performed this at the right tempo back in the day. This really ruins it for me -- and I'm hardcore VH fan.

How can ac/dc call Van halen a pop band? Just cause Van Halen party harder than them, and then their lead singer's don't sound like strangled cats!
