I remember going down to the Celtics victory parade and seeing Bird up close with both hands in the air in 1986 on the truck riding around the streets. What a great memory that was. Those were the days!!!!

Larry was a better shooter from the outside, perimeter, and freethrow line, % will back this up. Was a much better passer and rebounder,% will back this up. He was actually a better scorer, yes scorer! Just because you avg. more points a game doesnt make you a better scorer. Jordan was a better defender on a 1-3, but the only thing Jordan was better at offensively was driving to the basket. Not to mention Jordan racked up all those stats and rings when the League was at its worst, watered down!

The 86 Celtics would mop the floor with the 96 Bulls and probably close them out in 5 games. Four of their players (3 starters) are in the elite top 50 of all time. The Bulls only have two members of that club. The 96 Bulls are what they call a donut team (no inside game). How could a front line of Luc Longley, Rodman, and Pippen possibly match up against Bird, McHale, and Parrish, the greatest front line ever (Longley and Rodman can't even score for fuck sake)!

Any way you slice it the 1996 Bulls are the greatest team of all time. I will give the 86 Celtics the distinguished honor of the #2 slot, since it would be unfair to put the 97 Bulls there.

The 96 Bulls are NOT the greatest TEAM of all time (they had arguably the greatest player), but they won in relatively speaking a weak era.

The best guy Jordan ever faced was Charles, and he's only a top 15 player of all time.

Magic was old and tired in 1991. (really just evidence of how bad the West was back then).

I can think of 5 teams truly greater than that Bulls team:

* 60's Celtics

* 86 Celtics

* 87 Lakers

* 70's Lakers (when Wilt led the NBA in assists)

* '83 Sixers

You know damn well that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever. He scorched Larry and the Celtics for 69 pts as a Rookie...he has more MVPs, Championships, defensive player of the year awards and all-star selections, come on now. Both times MJ faced Bird's Celtics (not bulls) in the playoffs,

they got swept 3-0 in the first round.

P.S. to all the Jordan jockers: Even if MJ was better than Bird & Magic

(and that's a matter of opinion) his team couldn't have beaten the 80's Celtics or Lakers teams. Hell, MJ's best Bulls team couldn't of handled Dr. J's 76ers team (early to mid 80's) or Isiah's Pistons (mid to late 80's) either!

I'd have to say that the 86 team that swept the Bulls were in their prime. Still I agree, the 2 best teams ever, the 83 Sixers and 86 Celtics, a slight advantage to the Sixers because they only lost one game and swept the Lakers in the finals. It's unfortunate they didn't play the Celtics in the playoffs that year, because I think they would have lost at least 2 games to Boston. Somehow the Bucks swept the Celtics that year, I still don't know how. Only playoffs a Bird team was swept.

Dude, I totally agree. The teams that were around in the early 80's and late 70's were all complete teams. Not to knock MJ's teams, but he was the main one who made his team better just by being on the court.

The steal of Isiah's in bounds with 4 seconds left in game 5 of the 87 conference finals is one of the most clutch plays in history. The way Bird started to backpedal on defense to fake Isiah out and then made a last second sprint toward Lambier, who always got the inbounds was brilliant. The Celtics needed a basket to avoid elimination - Bird found a way to get it.

When I was a kid, there was no one player or team that I HATED more than Larry Bird and the Celtics.

But when I look at the NBA today, and the garbage players in the league.......................I miss him.

If Magic and Bird were in the NBA today, they'd be killing all these current players.
