  • Um... the problem with this is... hour glasses dont fill up from the top to the bottom, they fill up from the bottom to the top.

    FAIL!

  • Either the camera can not pick up what is going on, or there really isn't anything going on. Looks to me like the LED in the middle just bounces around and the others more or less do nothing.

  • @DeathToTheseWalls its just you. Its filling from the top.

  • That's very clever. I don't know why this has so many dislikes because that's a fine project you've made. It'd be interesting if you included accelerometer functionality... Or maybe something more basic like a tilt switch in order to determine the direction of flow!

  • BORING !!!

  • no deveria ser hacia de abajohacia a riba el llenado

  • that is awsome

  • WHY?

  • I've got three words for you... Patent. ..Trademark.... Lamborghini. =)

  • @spellbinderart I've got 3 sentances for you.

    You cant patent a timer.

Trademark for an hour glass when nobody has used an hour glass since the LCD clock came into existance.

    Fiat Punto

  • Fail...

  • I have a 3d hour glass which uses sand.

  • lol

  • even the poor guys dont wanna pick that thing up

  • nice crap

  • The "sand" floats.

  • @Natasmai56667 but the thing is that... the 4th dimension is the time!

  • fail..

  • 1 word Failed!!

  • gay

  • 143 people missed the Like button, he did GOOD!

  • ...And what's wrong with using sand in a glass tube?

  • so true they are lol

  • whats so special at leds?

  • а есть у нас в России такие умельцы ?

нужна помощь в изготовлении одного экземпляра полутора метровой трассы из светодиодов!

    пишите на почту xesqzar@mail.ru

  • Alright, now turn it around!

  • Great idea!

    Needs those improvements though!

Keep up posted when you do.

  • sucks

    :X

  • Não deveria acender os leds debaixo primeiro?

The bottom leds should'n lighten first?

  • I think that your hourglass should fill up the bottom, not the top. X3

Also what happens when you flip it? Looks like it only goes one way.

  • its filling the bottom tho

  • @capnquack

shur'up dude id like to see you make one :)

  • @ODAR094 It's been said by men far more learned than I that a critque can be given by anyone - they need not be a genius on the topic. They may say what they like and do not like without their own ability being called into question - after all if you saw a plane that you did not think was skyworthy should you be forced to ride in it simply because you could not build it yourself? Certainly not. The creators of the clock admit the 'gravity' makes no sense in their description. I reiterated that.

  • @capnquack LOL i don't care.

too much effort for no reason.

  • nice attempt. i see some potential..

  • Great work :)

  • lol!

  • Aren't hour glasses already in 3D?

  • The led ones?!

  • @Yewro2000 i thought that maybe digital 3d hourglass would be more apropriate

  • @Yewro2000 I thought everything you can touch is 4D

  • @korolo98 actually no, in a theoretical sense for example: each side of a 4D cube would be made up of 3 dimensional cubes. percieving an object with 3 dimensions using any of your senses means just that, its has length width and depth and you can touch it.

  • Waste of 57 seconds

  • reminds me of the stargate g'uald (or something) explosives

  • @Socrates271 I love that show!

  • q chato

  • Great, now flip it over!

  • lol!

  • wtf? o.O

  • Pretty cool little gadget.

  • Thats really cool, nice really

reminds me of something made in wire in gmod XD!!!!!!

  • good jop...BRAVO...

  • wat für en scheißt

    wtf

  • Nigel Bumsen

  • was??

  • god damn u speak english and nutice that this is not shit

  • DUde, am i the only person who knows this thing is filling up the WRONG way. The sand builds up from the bottom to the top. Not the other way around?

  • i was thinkin that too... :S

  • Read the description next time dumbass.

  • Oh yeah...

  • :/

    .

  • if this were scaled x 20,000 this would be amazing as fuck.

  • Why are people so negative?! This is awesome!

  • i'm with you on that note

  • watching this video was almost more fun than watching paint dry

  • very nice... guys i mgiht be boring to look at but its awsome for him to see his stuff work! =p

  • Hmm... Looks useless, but would make a kickass paperweight!

  • Ehh........

  • cool

  • booring!

  • well, kind of very boring

    but nice idea anyways

  • its supposed to fill bottom up ??

  • ehm

    wheres the "action"^^

    still a nice build

  • interesante

  • sand dont for at the top and then bottom, it shudda started at the bottom and wokred up

  • looks like a timebomb lol

  • Booooooring

  • pretty cool but would have been better as a led cube

  • great job...

  • Your face is ugly.

  • Looks horrible but at least you can see the umm.. pixels drop? 4/5

  • There is eror...

When sand falls, it should fill bottom first...and lamps on bottom should glov...not on the top... But still, its good =)

  • That was not even close to an hour. ;)

  • lol

  • lol

  • just need to invert your connections - so it fills from the bottom as you said. very retro-groovy

  • haha or just turn around^^

  • I hate to say it... but... it looks like shit... but it looks home made... and i dont know that i could make one that good... even though its a bit rough... VERY NICE!!!

  • 100% agree

  • It looks home made because it is - not everyone posts stuff on youtube to try to sell it. Maybe, you know, they actually like it --- and wanted to share it with other people who think the video is cool. Personally I also think it's pretty sweet.

  • NIce one :P

  • WTF is this? flying shit?

  • kool

  • thats pretty cool

  • What a stupid thing to make.

  • Holy Crap, this one is UBERCOOL!! :D

  • And you're UBERSTUPID

  • i respect the effort in it & how amazing it its. but ... is it necessary or gonna help us in anything? people stopped using hourglasses long ago .

  • when its runs out flip it over hehe =)

  • creative.

  • what im wondering is is there some code or something that makes the LEDs light up on their own when one drops down, or if it is just programmed to light up at in order.

if it does it by itself, then this is truly amazing

  • Its easy to criticize,

    but its hard to thevenize.

  • lol isnt the sand soupposed to go from bottom to top when it fills up? are u doing this on the moon or somthing?

  • its acualy top to bottom...

  • he means that the sand on the bottom is filling up from the middle to the bottom.

  • AWSOME

  • you watch too much movies ^^

  • yea thats what we need more guns ... honestly ..... ppl's priorities are fucked

  • LOLPRIORITIES... SO U'D RATHER one of these things than a laser gun? ur priorities are fucked up not mine!!!!!!

  • Hey, that was really cool, but isn't this technically a minuteglass?

  • As cool as it was, i would have to point out that the bottom part lights go the wrong way. Aren't they supposed to light up where the "sand" would be? If so, they should light up from the bottom and go up.

  • Indeed. If you read the "About the Video" section on the right, you would notice that this is one of the improvements thats planned.

  • Oh fiddlesticks! :p

  • I love you whiney kids and your "This is boring." Quit being dicks. This sort of thing takes a lot of dedicated time and education. The fact that he's making an incrementer that outputs to combinations of LEDs is pretty impressive no matter who you are, in or out of the robotics and electronics world.

What can any of YOU do that compares?

  • this is like using diamonds to make an abacus

  • Great !

Can you make another 3D replica of the worlds most boring 3D objects please please !!

    How about a 3D jostick ?

  • Nice idea

  • Great Great Idea

Should have used a PIC though :P kidding

Im sure alot of swearing accompanied the making of this!!! Nothing ever seems to work the first time lol..

  • 3D Hourglass, you say? As opposed to a 2D Hourglass, of course. There are just so many of those. (Unless your mouse loading icon is old, lol) Looks kinda neat though.

  • Nice work but marking it under "3D" is a little cheap. I think mankind has come to terms as to not labeling phyiscal objects as 3D.

  • poop

  • How many LED's is that?

  • 40 LEDs in each half. Driven by an AVR Mega32 together with ULN2003. One z-axis accelerometer from Freescale. Powered by a 9-V battery and a LM2575 buck regulator.

  • what? lol

  • its components ... dont bother trying to learn it .. its a jungle :P

  • lol no kidng, i know advanced science and math but holy ba jumbos!

  • you should add a tilt sensor (can filled with mercury) to sense weather it is up or down.

  • Thanks. We already have a Z-axis accelerometer on the upper side of topmost PCB. Infact you can see it also. Its the SMD IC nearest to the viewer in the video. The effect of the accelerometer is not obvious, since I did not record the action of the Hourglass after its first minute.

  • This is boring just watching it, but... COOL!

  • Very good work... Keep on

  • wow..... smart!

  • ok, that was a waste of my time but keep up the good work i see you are gifted in electronics :)

  • lol

  • keep on! good work

  • companhia da luz 55-27-3340-08520

faça de sua festa un show

  • shit

  • cool, apart from the defying gravity bit.. nice touch

  • LOL, i thought it was a lava lamp

    nice.

  • Shouldn't it light up from bottom to top?

  • I was thinking about the same thing

  • Those are empty ball pen refills.

  • are thoes straws holding the top peice and bottom peice together?

  • sweet
