good skill... in realtime with force and speed (what is now ofcourse slowed for us to see) it's a great move, the center is also changed fast of the person holding whatever. think of the options to finish after, that's also allot... could very be that there are better tricks etc.. like this one very much heh thanks for the demo
I don't think Fred was showing a gun defense drill here...I think he was showing how the dynamic of the MOVEMENT he viewed was incorrect. This is a commentary on the principal of movement, not individual technique. Totally agree on handling gun as #1 priority...but on a gun defense drill.
The is just a drill on dynamic movement. If you, for whatever reasons, find yourself running hard at the target and (from your angle) decide to hook hard into his neck, ensure you counter-hook with the other arm so you don't spin off. Law enforcement personnel use this drill to learn this lesson. I totally agree with you that if you have a choice and opportunity, control the gun's aim as directly as is possible. Take care. Fred
Is that Steve Turano from Body Performance? Wow, he's put on a lot of weight since this video. Just look at his "Foods that Make you Fat" video if you dont believe me. Maybe he hasnt been working out or hes been having too many ham sandwiches and pretzels!
LOL! Nope, not too many sandwiches. I broke my elbow and had to stop lifting for 3 months. As you well know when you don't lift you lose muscle. So I lost about 15 pounds of muscle. In this video I was about 195 and now in my more recent videos I'm about 180. Great observation!
@BodyPerformanceTV steve I'm sorry for posting the abs workout about the breathing too many times I did not mean to anger i now understand why you block me and just want to say im sorry and hope you can someday unblock me it won't happen agin from al14di.
I appreciate your concern and etiquette. Yes, controlling the weapon is a vital skill to work on. I was showing a situation where someone was running at someone from that angle and he sort of banged into the opponent but then flew off. You can't always just grab and control the weapon hand from every angle you find yourself. But if you bang him off balance and keep him off balance, while staying in his blind area, then you could control him and trap the weapon's use. Respect back at you. Fred
that is a good concept.Remember this guys. This drill can be used in many other situations.Position is Strength not a bunch of techniques you may forget in the actual fight.Anytime a you side step a guy this technique can be used
This drill is excellent. The point of the drill is NOT control of the weapon arm, but angle of movement and what happens if you "over-commit" on your technique. It is a focus on BALANCE. The drill is based on what went wrong for someone in a COPS show...HOWEVER, that being said...hey Sensei, maybe show us at least one way someone could control the weapon arm during the take down?
It is a most serious concern! Always "control" the "use" of the weapon. You can't always "catch" the weapon from all angles and dynamics. Notice I am swinging forcefully around opponent, off-balancing him and staying in his blind area by wrapping with other arm so I don't fly away from him. Imagine if the weapon was in his right hand and you were coming from his left side. You can't always "catch" the weapon but you must "control" the "use" of weapon. Take care, Fred
Double-leg/rear trip and double foot stomp (Bronco stomp) them if they got a gun/knife. Or perhaps superman tackle/double leg from the back then the stomp. Grab the neck if you have to preform a choke/crank if you need a quick and silent kill.
The operative term there is"a choke i've already succeeded in putting on', if you do not switch as Fred shows, you might pull it off. If the guy is strong and resists and\or you start flying to the other side not rooted really well, you will have a problem.
Interesting, well-reasoned, and in his case, effective..but..I can't imagine giving up a choke that I've already succeeded in putting on, to switch arms. If your man has some idea what's happening, isn't that an opening?
Blessings to you and yours. I appreciate Your insights and help. Keep'em comming...
