Why is Skinny Puppy using auto-tune?! This sounds similar to today's crap?! WTF?! Nivek Orge has really losted it! In fact music has really losted it! Its fuckin DEAD!!
I am loving this alot but it is just SO different from prior stuff! This is an example of how a band had balls and went with their gut! It worked out well for them as far as I'm concerned.
I guess theyre more post-punk... They hated being referred to as "goth" - Though the most "goth" thing you can do is get up in arms about being called a "goth band"
Still one of my favorite bands though.
I also suggest Rowland Howard of The Birthday Party's later band These Immortal Souls - it's definitely more in line with the 80s goth rock sound.
As for The Sisters Of Mercy, with a few exceptions, I only ever really got into their first album, which is always a staple on my mp3 player.
SP is SP so they will always be a little ahead of their times, no wonder some of us who prefer the old SP will take this as an insult to 'real' Skinny Puppy with Goettel. Check out the ZEITGEIST movement and the VENUS PROJECT if not yet done so!
They're documentaries about how Jesus is not real and 9/11 was a conspiracy. The second one is about the federal bank system ( I think). Pretty good docs. Everyone should have at least one view.
I personally enjoy this album more than any other. It has the perfect balance of grit and beauty. I absolutely adore it. Songs like Haze, Jaher, and Pasturn especially send chills down my spine. Very powerful.
dude go smoke a fat one. i think its cool that their still around . enjoy it . if you dont like it kool. dont have to...ah fuck it. ill smoke the fatty and trip .
You all don't know how to classify Skinny Puppy. Except for you, antivert, but you forgot to mention that lately they should be classified as electronic symphony, for the amount of instruments to make that broad a spectrum of sounds would take at least 30. Which brings me back to why it should be classified as electronic symphony.
i just gave this song a second chance...i didn't like the "digi-Ogre" voice at first...i reminded me of some gay ass cher song...i like it now though.
They were among the first industrial bands. If you really had to ask me, though, I'd call them visual artists. They went to a visual arts conservatory.
Skinny Puppy is pretty original in their genre but if a genre must be pasted on it I would say Industrial, especially having their first songs in mind. Mythmaker has more electronic influences then earlier albums but it aint that bad after all.
But it ain't gothic at all. Missings drums and heavy guitar sounds for that
what the fuck? the last part of the song is the best part !! why do these bastards cut it away so that it could look more "mainstream?" Nothing against mainstream but these promoters shud really leave a great song as it is and concentrate on making the fucking video.
This group started as mainly a Industrial band. A lot of different componists worked on this side project. A band who also helped with this project is Bahntier. Skinny putted a step later on with some more electro influenced wich are not that bad after all. Haze, Pedafly and UgLi are my favo songs of their new album.

i just recently got into skinny puppy. i know its quite late in their career, but whatever better late than never. Anyways, i really dig their modern electronics as that old raw sound they used to put out. I also don't see how this band is gothic in the least
look at their lyrics, look at pictures of them back when they started. just listen to their music compared to other industrial goth music (perhaps Velvet Acid Christ or :Wumpscut:) the goth element is definately there.
Great video, I'm not a big fan of some of their new shit but they'll always have my respect, I really like this video but the whole "electro" vocals really throw me off. Other than that I enjoyed the song.
Really, Skinny Puppy was NEVER goth, their music was believed to be gothic, but if you ever listened to the lyrics you would see they have more of a point than goth bullshit
I have followed skinny puppy from the beginning and been to the fuckin crazy concerts. This is just another orafice they are entering... they are brilliant!
Skinny Puppy in any form gets my total respect. They've come out the other end of the shithole and continue to make music and noise hardly anyone else, esp. in electronica, can shake a stick at. And this film is fittingly apocalyptic.
Well, I listened to Too Dark Park (amazing album), and I'm considering this one next. Mainly because I can't find too many tracks from Mythmaker online...;)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I didn't like Skinny Puppy until the Greater Wrong-reunion. I listen to their older material (Last Rights, etc), and it just doesn't do it for me.
I'm not a goth loser. Maybe that's why the "new" Skinny Puppy appeals to people like me that never gave them a chance before, and you nostalgic idiots can't get over the fact that you're favourite band isn't goth and they've grown up?
Chief, if it wasnt for those "nostalgic idiots" Skinny Puppy wouldnt be where they are today. And whats wrong with goth? Huh? Cmon one fucking explanation.
Personally I think the older Skinny Puppy is better. Why? Because I like the way it sounds, but obviously according to you we must all be nostalgic goth fucks for liking the old Skinny Puppy rather then the new.
You seriously need to explore what goth music actually sounds like.. Pick up a Christian Death album and get back to the world if yer going to babble.
This is nothing special.Hopefully they will soon do a vid that reminds of the videos that Tool does, that would suit their music great. And hopefully they will throw out Mark Walk and start all over with Rave.
yea. i was there for the making of this video. it WAS a low budget video. my 15 year old friend did the make up and clothing. we prepared in a school gym. it sucked.
Who cares? The video is still fucking awesome. The song is amazing. And I find it more than slightly odd that you have a friend that is eleven years younger than you.
I miss their old low-budget videos with disturbing images & gore. This is too Hollywood-y. Pro-test was worse, so this may be a step in the right direction.
Their live performance was brilliant, though! Their videos may have lost their touch, but their live shows are great! I've been a SP fan since Too Dark Park.
very appropriate for our world... but that's always been the point of SP anyway, right?
this video is VERY moving, considering it's only half the length of the album version. i was worried about that at first, but the worry didn't last long...
Weird, I actually preferred the original concept art to the completed video. This is still probably their best since Stairs & Flowers. Editing out the end of the song was the worst thing they could do, though. :(
It's so easy to compare SP's new work to their older material, but all bands need to evolve and explore new musical horizons. I love all SP music, old AND new!
IDK, it seem great on the previews, but the video as it is, is just, not that great, BUT, if you mean it to be a tribute to Dwayne its nice, Im "old" and I like much more the old stuff, but the newest albums are not as powerful as "Bites" or "VIVIsectVI", the works still good, but not amazing as the old 1ndu57r14l days :´(
i don't think the puppies had anything to do with this - this is just a promo made by the record label. which is probably why cevin and ogre are NOT in the video. song is powerful - video is weak
Their site, which is maintained by the band, has had production stills and concept sketches up for weeks, my friend, leading me to believe they were involved in the video.
I guess it's the old format of the albums that I miss the most. Half the album would be like a jam session instrumental and the other half would be some experimental vocal tracks. I also miss the way that they could produce some really clean sounding well produced songs and also have some really rough sounding improv stuff. The new stuff just does not have that aspect to it.
This video really does get better each time you watch it..I think the significance of putting past relationships (whether it be love relationships, drug addictions and so forth)into past tense and living in the present is a withstanding concept..I'd rather see meaning to a video than just a bunch of breakdancing idiots trying to outnumber eachother.
I get your comment and you have a point. It's not really the absence of Dwayne that I am dwelling on. But I still feel that there is something that is missing from the band in their recent work. Since The Process I have not really heard any Puppy songs that I enjoy. I think the older stuff is great and Ohgr's solo stuff along with the KMFDM collaborations were great.
It's okay to think it's boring (I don't), but cEvin said Haze has been around since the Process, which is before Dwayne passed (R.I.P. Dwayne), so Haze could very well have been written by him... at least he would have helped create it. So, yeah... Plus, I don't think people should dwell on Dwayne's passing -- both of the original Pups are still among us.
Skinny Puppy is always has been and always will be the reason industrial exists! Even there worst work is better than anyone else's best! except Wumpscut :D
Skinny Puppy are a good band but they are fucking stupid for not playing their hometown of Vancouver, Canada. On behalf of all the disgruntled Vancouver industrial fans: "FUCK YO TOO, NIVEK & CO.!!"
Umm... I am a rabid SP fan and everything, I am still pumped from seeing them live a few days ago, I have their symbol tattooed on my back... but I have no friggin idea what just happened there. Gave it 5 stars anyway bc it's SP... perhaps it will make sense later.
I am going to see them here in New Orleans this Friday. I'm so excited! The new album is good, but I really prefer their older stuff. Do they play any old songs on this tour?
I would say that most of the stuff they played was from vivsect vi but some from all albums- some new some old. Amazing show. They always are. Here is a spoiler vid with what they will play if you don't want to be suprised, the site won't let me post it so just search "skinny puppy mythrus tour @ the catalyst"
Very subtle in a lot of places, almost too. But the concept was great; sort of a 'Lord of the Flies' theme which is respectable in itself. I'd say about a 7.7.
Skinny Puppy is a great band but their videos always leave a lot to be desired. It was fine when they had to pay for the video production out of their pockets but there is no reason for them to make amateurish videos anymore. All that said, I do prefer these bland vidz to some slick Hollywood crap.
i want to love it as Skinny Puppy is my favorite band and has been for 20 years, but whomever you got to make the video lacks the skill, creativity, soul to give this song the visual impact it deserves. even if ya were on a really tight budget theres no excuse for this.
this is the sound of matured and enlightened musicians..not mainstream crap.

There's no such thing like Goth music. Gothic is subculture of peoples who listen different type of music:
neofolk
dark ambient
industrial (mainly electro industrial)
metal (gothic metal, opera metal)
rock ( rock operas, j-rock, industrial rock, gothic rock, cold wave)
That's in general all main music genre that gothic cover.

This was pretty boring both as a sonic medium and a visual journey. Skinny Puppy just hasn't been the same since Dwayne died.

Skinny Puppy are a good band but they are fucking stupid for not playing their hometown of Vancouver, Canada. On behalf of all the disgruntled Vancouver industrial fans: "FUCK YO TOO, NIVEK & CO.!!"
Pssshh...Skinny Puppy Inc.

Do they play any old songs on this tour?
sexypea34 4 years ago
I would say that most of the stuff they played was from vivsect vi but some from all albums- some new some old. Amazing show. They always are. Here is a spoiler vid with what they will play if you don't want to be suprised, the site won't let me post it so just search "skinny puppy mythrus tour @ the catalyst"

I'm so happy they will be playing some of the old stuff. Vivisect VI is one of my favorite albums! I can't wait till Friday. Thanks for the info!

All that said, I do prefer these bland vidz to some slick Hollywood crap.

i want to love it as Skinny Puppy is my favorite band and has been for 20 years, but whomever you got to make the video lacks the skill, creativity, soul to give this song the visual impact it deserves. even if ya were on a really tight budget theres no excuse for this.
like i said i want to love it but i cant.
