It's predicated on the photos being imported as an animation, one frame per image. There's 57 photos, so the animation's just under 2 seconds long in real-time. For the morphing effect, I slowed the animation down to 20% using a speed-ramping program called Twixtor that generates new intermediate frames between each frame of the source footage. (Avid also has an effect like this called FluidMotion.) So it's those intermediate frames that give it the morphing effect.
