hey.... you did it wrong. take out the match and the wax from the tea light candle but leave the metal and you'll still have a similar effect. You don't put metal in a microwave. lose the metal and try again.
@failbreak599 you can use a candle or a grape...make sure to put the glass over it tho.....this was kind of stupid what he did...you could have made something explode xD
@wishwizard100 It can be stuck in anything - it just needs to be standing vertically. And I think it's just a regular match, not a toothpick.
You can also create this effect with a grape cut nearly in half, with a little bit of skin still connecting the two parts. Don't ask me how that one works.
jazz not really superheated gas, its more ionization of the gas particles that causes the "so called plasma of microwave" which isnt entirely considered plasma.
@jazzbassists77 actually, because of the magnetron in the microwave (electromagnetic radiation...), it's electricity arcing between conductive carbon particles (causing combustion). it's quite similar to the arcing between fork tines... but since carbon is combustible... superheated means a liquid is heated to a temp > it's boiling point, without boiling...
Ok, for one, learn to spell, and second, Photoshop is for PICTURES... Not video. I guess you could edit frame by frame, but thats a stretch, at 33 FPS.
That was one of the stupidest comments iv ever seen on youtube, PERIOD.
there is no plasma hes shorting out the magnetron ( thing that makes microwaves) and the "plasma" is just an electrical high voltage arc created of the microwave transformer with very high current 2000V 25AMP if door window breaks your dead the arc can reach up to 30 cm he is just risking hes life.
only if a spark jumps to the walls. mythbusters put spoons, forks and other metal objests in a microwave and it didn't do anything to the microwave itself.
this is very bad for impressionable kids... if they watch this, 90% of them will try it out. But we're lucky kids that age don't know how to use a computer.
This is what you do: You light the end of a match and put it in the microwave. Have something to keep it standing up. Heat the microwave for about 30 seconds and enjoy. It will be somewhat lound and scary-sounding, but don't run off screaming.
So in theory the got gas coming from the fire got stripped of its electrons by the microwaves and became a plasma. My thinking is that since microwaves are a rather 'weak' or 'cold' form of light, it couldn't have stripped more than one or two electrons from each molecule. I guess it would depend on the ionization energy CO2, H2O etc...What if we did this experiment in UV?
no, it doesn't, a microwave's purpose is to excite water molecules in your food to heat it up, there is no "feedback" that will hurt your microwave as a result of energizing gaseous water into a plasma... what will fuck up your microwave is letting the superheated plasma scorch the top of the microwave. Putting a glass over the match keeps this from happening and gives this spectacular light bulb effect, but otherwise, its fine to nuke grapes in the microwave.
yes, we put our food in that thing. don't use microwaves! the Soviet Union banned them years ago! go to mercola (dot com) or various other sites if you'd like more info
Not so much clever as just experienced. I'm an electronics repairman/hobbyist, I used to work for Motorola repairing microwave communications equipment and other radios, It just kinda irritates me to see people spreading fear about something they actually have no reason to fear
A microwave is NOTHING but a simple high powered RF transmitter. Unless you are dealing with thousands of kilowatts, or megawatts, The chances of it harming you even if unshielded are small, (most common is the development of cataracts at an older age) arcing will not harm the shielding, unless it happens hundreds of times, and you can see a visible hole in the shielding. The noise you heard was the sound of the arcing
LOL thousands of Kilowatts would be Megawatts, doh!
Correction, Hundreds or Kilowatts, or megawatts.
Also, RF energy follows the inverse square law meaning, if one person is standing one foot away, and the other is standing 2 feet away, the 2nd person receives only 1/4 of the energy as the first so you do the math
It amazes me how many people know NOTHING about a device they use daily Microwaves, cannot, do not and will not cause cancer it's not a NUCLEAR device it simply a Cavity resonator enclosed in a shielded box. The largest hazard from operating an unshielded or poorly shielded microwave is cataracts, because they do not have sufficient blood flow to cool them. The rest of you body has enough blood flow to cool itself before it can reach a temperature that is damaging.
shame when i saw this i was like i wanna do that!!! good thing i read over the comments 1st :) not even gunna try that now lmao i dont want cancer or something to blow up in my face!!! >.< lmao silly kids :)
Thats not all too smart. if your going to do this experement at all (which you really shouldnt) you should cover it with something inside the microwave. (say a glass jar, just raise it a bit so the air can get to the match, then set it outside after your done.) The reaction creates a toxic gas that you are letting into your home.. also it seems to last longer when the glass is over it.
lol... yes the stuff in our veins is called plasma but this plasma is the 4th state of matter they never talk about in school. When gas particles, usually in the state of fire, get super excited it changes to Plasma. I like to call plasma liquid fire/energy because thats what it looks like although its properties are far more different than a liquid.
You know I always wondered what would happen if fire, an already hot... energy was put into a microwave which as it says sends microwaves to heat an object.... now I know
