@weaknessx100 no, I meant the girl that John Smith was in love with. Also, not fair to Rose?! She played with the hearts of every male character on that show, don't forget she was with Ricky until she found out that the Doctor had a better "car" (the T.A.R.D.I.S.) Then she just dumped him! She was never in love with the Doctor, just in love with his gadgets and what he could do for her. I really hate Rose, and obviously you like her so forgive my rant.
@TheValiantBob His name is Mickey not Ricky. Ricky is the version of Mickey from the parallel universe who dies in the episodes Rise of the Cybermen and Age of Steel.
@TheValiantBob No, Rose truly did love the Doctor. She was never in love with Mickey, she felt extremely close to him because she had knows him since she was a child. Rose would've died and almost did for the Doctor.
@TheValiantBob Rose deserved him way more. The Doctor loved Rose alot more then he loved that girl. Plus Rose risked her life to save the universe and others all the time.
I love the passion when he says "What sort of man is that?" He looks pained, broken, because he knows what it's like to fall in love, and he can't believe that someone could be that heartless. I LOVE YOU DOCTOR!!!
I love the fact that as a human being he's terrified of The Doctor, he is actually scare of become that strange man. And Tennant is precise showing to us that emotion.
I keep watching this repeatedly, besides Rose scenes and Eccleston, this was my favorite scene. Til that end. They are one and the same. I can't believe she said that.
I always felt they lost a fantastic line here, the Doctor should have told her that she's wrong, dying is easy, it's living that's hard, because he's a walking memorial to the dead. He's the last of his species and if he dies, all that they were dies with him. That's a hell of a burden to carry. Everytime I see this scene, I want to slap her. How arrogant and sanctimonious can she be? He tried to avoid killing; he's not responsible for the Family's choices.
@ladypredator i absolutely agree, i always felt there was something off about that scene, but couldnt put my finger on exactly what. like they were missing something crucial about the doctor and why he makes the tough choices. anyways i thought what you said was very well put :)
This story is easily David Tennant's best performance of his run as the Doctor. You always know a good actor when they can play a different character and not remind you of previous roles. Here David plays the same character who has become another character and he's totally convincing. Fantastic.
@willmandude As a side note, their our rumors out there that David Tennant was considered to play The Riddler, back when Legendary Pictures was going over different screenplays and concepts for Christopher Nolan's third Batman film. I wish they were still going for that plot rather than adapting plot elements from "Knightfall" together with Catwomen stories, as exciting as seeing Batman get incompacitated by Bane is.
wake up in the morning feeling like matt smith i got my bow tie and my fez so i can claim their cool gonna pimp up tennants tardis and take that crap sticker off!
@ISH1331atlarge There isn't a "best actor" for The Doctor. Each actor is a different aspect of the Doctor, and they usually invent-ish that role style themselves.
But I do adore David Tennant, doubly so because he was a childhood fan, and when he became an actor, he dreamed of being the Doctor, and now he was.
@Keijikrall But sometimes, the writers and actors don't fit. It's sort of what happens with the new series. The plot-line is hideously confused. I believe Matt Smith and Stephen Moffat don't go together.
@Afrikaanus No, actually In a way, Matt smith is a better Doctor than David Tennant, 'least IMO. David Tennant played a hopeless, 900+ year old last of his species time traveler well, but he didn't nail the OLD down. Matt smith takes a different approach, and also hammers in the "I don't really want to fight, I'm tired, I'm actually super old." Stuff down like a boss.
@Keijikrall No, he played a 900 year old man that had a conscious. He was a darker character, seemed mentally turmoiled, far too hard on himself and lonely. The Doctor let his guard down for Rose unintentionally, and like always what he cares for seems to get ripped away. I think ten hates himself at times, he's tired and is sick to death of things taking a turn for the worse. Understandable for a 900 year old man that is continually making life and death decisions.
It made me cry so hard the second time I watched it. It kind of mirrors Ten's regeneration.

These are such emotion-packed episodes! And DT is on fine form. The Doctor and John Smith are so differently played, but you can see connections.

by far, these were the two best episodes i have ever seen. They are full of emotion and power, showing what the Doctor really is.
