One of the most powerful scenes in the entire history of this groundbreaking medical series!!! After two painful ardous years of recovery Carter hears and then see the very paranoid schizophrenic lunatic that stabbed him and killed Lucy that Valentine's Day!!! You can see the look of fear and hatred with confusion all at once!!! Noah Wylie shines so very much in this scene because he conveys what of us watching are feeling in one solid look!!! This time Paul Sobriki is the one whom looks afraid!
Yeah, I've never understood why being mentally ill is less of a reason to be locked up. If anything, it's more of a reason to be put into prison so that you don't hurt others.
But instead they release these psychos and then they do it again and the process repeats.
People with mental illnesses so severe that they become a danger to themselves and people around them (like Paul Sobriki) are not going to get better in prison. They need to be locked up in an institution where there are doctors that can help them and systems in place to keep them safe. Like Paul said, it's a disease. It can be treated.
I became a fan of Lo-Fidelity All Stars because of this track (Battleflag) and because they played that music the first time. It was such a powerful scene and the music fit so well with the emotions we felt the first time around.
Having them re-play it was a wonderful touch to an already amazing scene!
Defenitely amazing, especially considering Carter had that look in his eyes like "I should kill you where you're sitting" I know that's probably what i would have said to him personally. Great acting!
Wow, I remember this scene! it was great. The look on Carter´s face when he heard his voice and you can see his anger or rage when Sobriki said he was out and was apologizing and saying he was better...I thought Carter was going to do something to him; instead he just said "great" and walked away...amazing!
Well if you think about, what can you say to the man whom nearly killed you, is responsible for the death of your friend & his actions led to a drug addiction. That's Abby was running Carter around in the episode, she was afraid what Carter would do to him if he knew that he was there.

i agree with u cept on one point. i think carter could have controlled his addiction by seeking help. sobriki did stab carter and lucy and killed lucy but i dont think he was personally responsible for carter's addiction...IMHO:)
No He's not personally responsible for the drug addiction. I said his ACTIONS led to it. IF he haven't stabbed Carter & killed Lucy, Carter may haven't started using. He was dealing with both his physical pain and the emotional pain of losing a friend. Also, Carter has always felt guilty when someone under his care or charge messes up,dies, or gets hurt.
Carter's expression when he hears the voice of Paul, the way he holds his expression for so long... God. I love Noah!

@whatuswattingat Same here. Most of today's programming does not hold a candle to ER.

Poor Carter. :(
The acting really was great in this. The little reflexive turns to make sure no one was behind him. . . Really brilliant.
