Listening to this on Howard Stern today. That IS a door knock. It's the sound technician about to enter the room but the solo was so perfect that they just left it in for fun.
I always thought the knocking sound before the solo was intended. Like you hear someone knocking at the door, you get up and open the door, and a sweet guitar solo walks in the room.
I'm still amazed how Eddie wrote this short but sweet solo incorporating many techniques like slide, tapping, harmonics, bending, divebombs, etc. while keeping it all tasteful.
i will never understand why a guitar legend like EVH would even want to play with a pop artist like jackson. I think what eddie never realized is his dedicated fans were interested in rock music, not this kinda top 40 crap.

When I first saw heard The guitar solo "Beat it" in Thriller album.I was mesmerize.I remember learning how to play it.It took me about 2 days before I can mimic it lick by lick.I was in High School then.That was before computer,youtube,dvd.Nowadays any kid can go to youtube and learn how play any licks.

weird that they would leave that "knocking" sound on their unless it was intentional...there is NO way that quincy and the fifty other pairs of ears who heard this song before it was mastered missed it. if it was a mistake, it would be very easy to remove. if it was an anomoly on eddie's track, it could still be eliminated because it can be heard several beats before his solo begins. just punch his solo in later. is their some reference in the song that i don't remember?
