Wow I didn't know how much of an asshole he was back then. Well I mean he still is now but damn. He acts alot more compassionate twards women now than he did in this.
Karen was struggling with memories of being raped by her mom's boyfriend and became convinced that she was bad, dirty, etc. So she started hanging out in the wrong kinds of places and ending up working at Sonny's strip club. By this point, she's also hooked on drugs to help her sleep and/or help her stay awake, and still trying to deal with the stress from her abuse, and as you can see, she finally snapped.
