  • So as if you hadn't guessed from my questions I actually did this swap. My donor car was a 4door auto. I didnt use the entire vehicle harness. I modified my dash harness to fit the underhood harness with new connector ends. Solder and shrinkwrap any wire pins that had to be changed. Scrap yard sold me a MTX5 for next to nothing because they dint remember what it was from. Turns out it was SHO. Loads of fun to drive!

  • @littlebearish well now I need videos man I'm not alone now with a 3.0L escort so get a video up and send me link grats man. I have the SHO tranny too you will never bust it up.

    I'm doing a new setup in my EGT I'm going turbo.

  • You used the SHO trans? Better gearing and stronger diff. What did you use for axles? The SHO axle stubs were a little bigger than the tempo mtx5 axles.

  • @littlebearish The axels are a mix of tempo and taurus.

  • @littlebearish No my escort is my baby the tempo is a toy. a drag racing toy. the escort is the car I drive in the summer and do car shows with. the car I go cruzing. I live that Escort. I like the Tempo but the Escort is my love.

  • Just out of curiosity, what did U do for a radiator? And if U used the stock escort rad what did U use for a cooling fan? The tempo has a 2 speed fan where escort had single.

  • @littlebearish well I use the compleat wirering harness from the Tempo, I use the tempo fan I just had to make a custom holder for it.

  • I have to agree man. The tempo V6 swap into a first generation escort has been a dream of mine for years. I have a 89 LX with the 1.9L CFI. I rebuilt the engine and put the GT head on it with the matching pistons and had the intake welded and machined to fit the head and it runs good but the V6 would be so much better. Would like to see more videos if possible Bud...

  • I will have more vids but , I'm working on a different swap. at this time I wan't to drop a SVO or mercur XR4ti 2.3turbo in it

    I drop one im my tempo and I think one in my escort would be fun.

    engine front engine plate, and all wirering

    1994 V6 ford tempo and the 5 speed i got from a 1990 Ford Taurus SHO 5 speed.

  • ahh your right. i was also thinking wheel horsepower. the 3.0s 145hp rating is at the crank. your 1/4 miles times are consistent with drivetrane losses (about 123WHP). that means we'd actually need almost 50WHP...not happening without squeeze or giggle gas.

    15.2 still isnt bad though. i always found it a little disappointing that a boring 'ol 4.0 ranger will outrun the escort GT "race car" by the better part of a second.

    ive got 2 gt's myself, both '89's. i recently redneck overhauled the 1.9 in one of them...i would have swapped in the vulcan had i had the time and money (ive got a '93 ranger with that engine and love it). funny thing, these cars only need 170 horsepower to match mustang GT 1/4 mile times...that means i'd only have to get an extra 25 horse or so out of the 3.0...

  • Yes But the V6 is much heavyer then the 4 cylinder and will slow you down My best time is 15.2sec on the 1/4 with street tires but great fun to drive no i do not have new pics or video but since you are asking i will make some after the rian stops here and i have a day off work .

  • I have been wanting to put a SHO V6 into a EFI first gen Escort GT. I was told the block is the same dimensions and uses the same parts. what do you think about this?

  • for fitting it fitst but you need to relocate

    the power stering pump. and the tranny mounts

    are not the same so to save some work use the tranny from a V6 Ford Tempo. But its alot of work , but there is 3 guys i know that did it and they love there cars.

  • It drives like its on rails , it corners so well that , I can't brake it lose in the corners with Herculs tires , I got the from stabiliser bar from the Tempo V6 and it makes a big differance , I got oem shocks and coils and it drives so well , Im not changing them any time soon .

    the swap its sell if not that hard just one motor mount that is a pain , but al lthe rest is plug and play but you need al lthe wirering from the tempo , its one of the best swap i have ever done 30mpg for a modded car is very fun.

  • Well it will be coming this spring since there is 14" of snow were I live I was going to make one this summer but did not get to do it , there is audio in my video maybe you don't ear it but, everyone else does ? . but yes it was late like 2am when I first started it and the video is very dark sorry but i will re do it this spring and a smoke show too.     a 1992 to 1994 Ford Tempo or Topaz V6 3.0L 5 speed and do a swap not much fabrication its 90% drop in you can buy a V6 Tempo for under 1000$ and have fun , Im droping a Supercharger on mine .

  • No not really but i have had a few motor in my escorts

    1.9L ho, 2.3L hsc, 2.5L hsc, 3.0L V6 , i think this counts has a few my next mod is a superchager on the V6 then drop a 1.9L ho with a supercharger .

  • just need to fab the 2 front mounts the rest are bolt on change the fuel sending unit and all the wires .

    the exause on my is a custom made one was not hard 1/2 the front parts from the tempo and 1/2 the rear parts from a lx Escort if you want to talk to me directly come to my car club fordmazdatuningdotcom

  • Well you need a trans the 3.0L V6 wont fit on the 1.9L

    trans i know i tryed it . but if you want a really good trans get a 5 speed out of the 1989 SHO 3.0L it will bolt right up to the Vulcan motor and it much more solid and better 1/4 miles times .

    i got my motor from 3 different cars but if you get a 1992 to 1994 ford tempo it will fit in the escort

  • That's awesome. I was thinking about doing that with my 90 LX. I want more power than the stock 1.9.  Someone told me it bolts up to the ATX trans and the only thing you need to fab is one of the motor mounts. But I rear the wiring harness and ECM bolts right in if you get it from a Tempo. What did your engine come out of? I am a mechanic at a huge manufacturing place so making stuff is a piece of cake. Thanks for any info

  • Well its not too cloplicated for me Im a class a mechanic but its not that hard and the power and torque is 60% gain so yes well worth it.
