I know that dogs in training do not have the same rights as service dogs, So my question is this: Can you fly on a plane with your puppy in training? I go to school in Florida but am from philadelphia so I travel back and forth a few times a year. If I can fly on the plane with my dog in training, what airlines are the best choices? Do they give you a hard time? Is it difficult to fly with your dog in training?

@laurasammyfox Traveling with a puppy-in-training takes a lot of coordination, but many of our raisers have done it. You first need permission from the airline. They aren't required to allow your puppy on the plane, but many do allow you to do it. The most difficult thing to do is to time your puppy's feeding and relieving schedule so they're as comfortable as possible for the trip.

Although I love dogs, this is a job I wouldn't dream of doing. Because of the fact it's hard to say good-bye to the dog, after spending a year with them. It'd be like giving up my own baby.

@DJHey20 ..Speaking as someone who just had their first puppy leave (to go back for formal training) a few weeks ago, yeah it's hard, but it is so worth it. knowing that my work is going to help a blind person "see" is totally worth it.

@motosportjunkie, Guide Dogs uses Labrador and Golden Retrievers for this work because this breed of dogs is particularly adaptable and will work for pretty much anyone who provides the correct motivation. This is one reason our organization stopped using German Shepherds because they typically don't make that transition well. I hope that helps!

I'm raising my second puppy for Leader Dog for the Blind in MI. It's a great feeling when you meet the people that the puppy you raised is going to spend the rest of there life with.

we are training a guide dog and it leaves us tomorrow arfer a year of training with us in our family home it really hard to give the puppie up but you have to think of the possitive.
