SR-71 Blackbirds were never designed for bombing they were designed to take pictures at 80,000-100,000 feet. At 80,000 feet they could take a picture of a car plate number at a speed and read it clearly. I have been to that SR-71 and the museum is great. You have to go into the concord there
Think of the potential the SR-71 had... Modern engines could make it go even faster, surely this plane had stealth... Think of it, the ultimate stealth bomber...
The aircraft that is on the Intrepid is a A-12. The A-12 was the CIA version of the Blackbird. A-12 were a bit faster than the airforce's SR-71A because they only had one seat.
one of the greatest planes ever built, I was lucky enough to see/touch one up here in oregon (McMinville air museum, where the Spruce Goose is housed)
yeah, we've been there a few times, and go there every few years.
I was bummed because my wife and I just happened to be up there, and we stopped by to go enjoy the museum, they had built the space museum, but it wasn't going to be open for a few days......bummer.
oh well, we'll hopefully go up this year to check it out with the kids.
it looks like the sr 71 blackbird but it's the A-12
