If "the people" want what the Democrats are putting up as legislation, why did they get their asses handed to them? Guess what! The people don't want what the liberals are selling.
Tax cuts pay for themselves in extra economic activity. The problem is SPENDING! The ONLY way out of this mess is to grow revenue. And the only way to do that is to lower taxes. Liberals don't understand cause and effect.
@jepst41 actually there may be NO way out of this mess. Taxes were lowered for the last 10 years and that hasn't spurred spending so why do you think that it will work now? please explain it to me.
@obamamaniacs The US has the second highest corporate tax rate on earth. That is the main reason multinational corporations (including leftist Google) don't pay taxes in the US. They take all of their corporate losses and log all of their expenditures in the US and take profits in Ireland, the UAE, or other low tax countries. All corporate taxes are ultimately passed on to the consumer anyway.
@region357 most states have "workfare" now where ppl on welfare have to do jobs cleaning parks and such; so I guess they are getting off their asses and working.
I think the answer is: they're not. In 2008 Democrats won both houses with huge majorities because they campaigned on issues like this. When polled, 67% were for ending the tax cuts.
The reason things like this happen is that the Democrats flip flopped on what they ran on in 2008. Now both parties agree that the cuts should be extended, even though public is against it. This is basically democracy broken, in my opinion.
Another thing you said bush tax cuts wasnt hiring people. Simple becasue obama raised the taxes on the rich who make $250,000 and above in 2009. Thats when unemployment rate rose.
You know why we lose money? Because Obama spends it all to create jobs. You know how to create jobs without spending? Lower taxes for the rich. Its not about lowering taxes for the rich its about preventing DEM from highering them. So your right we wouldnt be improving nothing at all.
Obamacare is far from a "great thing". There's nothing "great" about socialized medicine. If there was, Canadians wouldn't be coming across the border for healthcare under the American system. Also, under the present poor economy where people can barely afford healthcare fo themselves and their family, what sense does it make to force them to pay for others' healthcare on top of it?
@USAon3 The original idea that Obama campaigned under was a lot better than the watered down mess we got. A single payer system and a public option both went the way of the 'compromise'. It should have stood under what the American people voted on.
People in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium have a lot better health care than ours is/was and it's 'socialized'. They also have free University schooling up through University. Of course they pay more in taxes for it.
@obamamaniacs America is known as the land of opportunity, not entitlement. People are sick to death of taxes and the tax-and-spend libs just pile on more.
New York is many times larger and denser than London. London charges people a tax just for entering the city! Look what they pay for gas. That's on top of the outrageous tax rates for income and sales.
I don't know about you, but I know for a fact that there aren't many Americans who would willingly stand for that level of theft.
@USAon3 There are way too many people on these boards who start with the premise that taxes are theft.
In my opinion, the burden lies on you to justify this viewpoint. If all taxes are theft, then the conclusion is that all taxes should be ended, the government disbanded, and we'd be in anarchy.
Are you suggesting anarchy? Most of the time, when asked, "taxes are theft" people then backtrack, and say that *some* taxes are good. Fine then, but you have to justify the right level.
@coopclauson you're mistaking me with an extremist. I never said nor implied that "all taxes are theft". I have nothing to backtrack from. Even if you inferred from my post that "some taxes are good", it's not up to me alone to justify. That onus lies, as it always has, on the American people.
How ironic that I engage in this thread as the 16th was the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party...
@USAon3 I wonder if they would allow that level of taxation if everyone had free health care and every child went for higher education at no charge? I wonder.
@obamamaniacs if taxes have to be raised to pay for healthcare and education, then it can in no way be referred to as "free". Such is the case with Canada's "free" healthcare. And while we're on the subject, look a little into the quality of that "free" healthcare. Then look into how many Canadians come to the US for their healthcare.
@USAon3 I don't know much about the Canadian system but I know ppl in the countries I mentioned and they think our past system is substandard. They are very happy about their healthcare and it's standard.
@USAon3 I have seen and used foriegn health care systems, while what I used was not free, I walked into an emergency room, saw a surgeon, had ex-rays, was given a diagnoses and medication. With no Insurance, all for 12 dollars. I'd like to see you do that in America, There was nothing substandard about it.
For you to say " Then look into how many Canadians come for US healthcare", Sounds like political slide of hand, A statement based on no fact but presented as fact. Step outside your box.
@USAon3 Who's heard of Canadians coming across the border to the US for healthcare? I've only heard of the opposite.
I'll grant that sometimes people do come to the US from other (typically poor) countries for unusual, high-end procedures that are only available here. But in terms of availability of healthcare to the general public, the US ranks terribly compared to other industrialized countries.
"We start out with a good bill that the people want...and then we start to compromise with the Republicans"
Excuse me, it's not the Republicans adding billions of dollars of earmarks to every bill. The Democrats hold the taxpayers hostage until they can get their pork attached to an essential bill. They've played this game with Americans for decades.
Now they're playing games, holding up the bill "gee, I don't know if we can do this, let us think about it for a few months"
@USAon3 Actually it's Republicans and Dems adding earmarks to these bills. All of our Congressmen are at fault. Every time an essential bill is on the way to ratification, these thugs start figuring out how to get some money for their own back yards. The rules seriously need to be changed.
If you don't think it's Rep also look up Representative Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) A.K.A "Prince of Pork".
@USAon3 This current bill should have been passed months ago before the midterm elections. The Pres was calling for it then. Don't blame the Dems in the House for not rushing now; the Bill they are being handed is laden with dozens of pages of pork barrel spending and, in my opinion, serious problems.
@obamamaniacs "don't blame the Dems" for not rushing and that the bill is "laden with dozens of pages of pork" - yet in the reply just previous to this you say it's Reps AND DEMS. Bias when it suits you, bipartisan when blame is to be laid? Shame on you. You know their game, yet turn a blind eye when some might get on you.
Liberals are "princes" when it comes to holding America hostage. They're Al-Qaeda in suits. Legalized Mafia. The sooner they're out of power the better for the country.
@USAon3 actually I point out all kinds of inconsistencies and do not consider myself to be so liberal. Some of the things I believe tend to be very conservative. I think ppl in politics just don't understand degrees of belief or in having a set of values that dictate how they treat each subject. It seems to be 'all or nothing' as far as their commitment to a party. I'm not like that. I support who I consider to be the best person for the position whether party or independent.
@USAon3 furthermore, if I've seen that a politician has done a great job while in office and they are up for re-election I never vote against them just because they are not democratic. For me, that's balderdash and not very sensible.
By the way, about the so-called surplus you referred to DID NOT include Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. When you factor these three programs back into the budget it put the so-called surplus way back into the red. That is the bastardized liberal economics that you have bought into. The Bush tax cuts were ten years ago, this is just extending the current tax rates. In the end, people are voting Conservative because liberalism is a failed concept, as it always has been historically.
@dantheleo conservative, liberal, progressive. They seem to all be just concepts. When it comes right down to it, people just want things that make their life a little easier. Unfortunately though, more than 80% of the population don't seem to have a voice in this climate. It's all about the rich and their lobbyists.
@videoenthusiast23 The main purpose of the Bush tax cuts were to give his wealthy friends a huge advantage, and he cut taxes while spending more. Republicans are supposed to be about less govt but I can't tell. lol
You know, if you liberals think we're not collecting enough taxes, you can always pay more. There's nothing stopping you. Funny though, nobody ever sends in an extra dime! But those same liberals pretty freely spend other peoples' money. Punish success, reward failure.
@obamamaniacs - I fall into the "over 250,000" group. So, if you raise my taxes, which would you choose... 1. I lay people off, or 2. The cost of that new home you've been promising your family, just went up at least 10,000? (I'm a building contractor)
@NAGGERNUTZ I don't have all the answers my friend. More often on here I ask questions; but actually you didnt give me 2 'options' here. 1 was to lay ppl off. 2 you are telling me that price went up.
Personally if I can't afford the price on a new home, I'd wait until I could afford it or look at other options like renovating an older home, buying a foreclosed home, etc.
There's a cause and effect for everything; and those who are wealthy are still spending (at least here in the Tri-state area)
@obamamaniacs - Exactly my point. Raising taxes on the wealthy will only result in higher unemployment, and/or higher prices on consumer goods and services. So in the end, raising taxes on the rich will only hurt the poor and middle class. The cause and effect factor. The top 2% of the country's earners make up 30% of the nations consumer spending. Critical to a healthy economy.
The Tri-State area... is that Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia?
@NAGGERNUTZ No, NY NJ CT. Actually if we are going to stimulate the economy it's better to extend unemployment benefits since the wealthy are sitting on their wealth 'supposedly' until the hard times pass while the unemployed and poor need to spend their money on food, shelter, child care, etc.
But do you really thinks it's healthy for 2% to be responsible for 30% of the nation's spending? Doesnt that show a huge imbalance?
@obamamaniacs - I'm sooo glad you mention that (the huge imbalance). Don't you get sick of politicians playing class warfare with our money? Rewarding one segment, while punishing another. I think now is the time for tax reform. Charlie Rangel was on the Huckabee show this evening. He may be a criminal, but he was right about the need for tax reform. We need a simple point of sale consumption tax. That way nobody can cheat and everybody that spends, pays federal taxes. I like the FairTax (HR25).
Republicans vs. Democrats. i just dont understand it when it comes to important issues like this. Our country is in such bad shape. These politicians needs to stop arguing and realize some americans are barely able to support themselves and stay afloat. I can speak for many, including myself, its hard to get a job and unemployment only helps a little. The rich can afford to lose a little bit of money, we, the middle class cannot. This is what is tearing our country apart. Politics suck.
@MrAnimeGuru Actually if the Bush tax cuts are extended no one will get a tax increase, but the fight is to extend the cuts for everyone making under 200-250k at this point. I'd gladly have my taxes increase a bit in order for the wealthy to pay their share (or more of their share since they'll find loopholes around a lot of it anyway).
Wow! Pretty gutsy of you responding to a CBS video... well, being, you're obviously a... liberal. So am I...! Perhaps I've just been beaten down so many times now,... but today, in the US at least, any liberal who speaks out is going to have quite a fight on their hands. Try to have a nice day.
What happens is the Republicans have not been destroying the economy since 2006. The Republicans have ideas that work when they aren't strangled by tons of far-left legislation.
What may happen is this president will realize that his policies have failed, allow the Republicans to once again, like they did in the Clinton era, save the economy and so the democratic president can take credit for it and be re-elected.
@dogeymon83 worked to do what, separate the rich even more from the poor? Enrich the corporations of the US while leaving the individuals not born into wealth to fight just to put food on the table?
The Republicans only care for their richest constituents.
Actually I dont need any of that shit..I got My own guns ,horses and I can make anything I need on my own..I would love it if the Governmet were to collapse...millions of worthless maggots would starve and kill each other..we would go back to the year 800 AD and I would run around with my horse an my AK and make my own kingdom..me and my Knights. Back to a time when men were men and bitches were hoes..
How did the govt LOSE Tax revenue? That money isnt thiers..the money belongs to the person that makes it. Those bitches just get what people give them, that money isnt thiers so how are they LOSING anything??
@Gloomshadow1 Do you know what those tax dollars pay for? Do you realize that most states get back 3 to 4 dollars for every tax dollar that goes at to the govt at the moment? and ppl wonder why we have a deficit.
Maybe you'd prefer to clean your own streets, pay for your own police force, take your own garbage to the dump, purchase and maintain your own septic tank, etc.
Barry Soetoro wants to let the tax cuts expire so he will have more revenue to distribute to his voting base (i.e., Hispanics, blacks and welfare recipients) - remember, those who couldn't wait for their "Obama money" to pay their mortgage and gas for their '87 Sedan DeVilles.
No society EVER taxed itself into prosperity. Ever.
@USAon3 but if the taxes that we pay are not enough to cover the country's basic service then we need to raise those taxes. A good start in saving some money would be cutting back on the military. That's for sure.
Yeah, that's a swell idea. Remember what happened the last time the military and intelligence were cut? Oh yeah - 9/11.
How about getting those who OWE taxes to actually PAY THEM. No more loopholes and shelters, You earn a paycheck? You file a tax return.
Another tip? Cull the welfare rolls. You better have a damn good excuse to pick my pocket. Otherwise, get your flab-ass fat ass outta that chair and hit the bricks for a job.
@USAon3 I hope for sure that you're not making this personal. lol. I'm the last person you would want to call fat and I've been working since I was 11 yrs old.
9/11 happened right here on US soil while the military was at just about full strength (in other countries). Did you know something like 44% of our tax dollars goes toward military spending? It's really a shame.
It's funny that ppl are saying "cut the welfare rolls" when there are daily commercials on the tv and radio basically...
9/11 was planned in the 90s - the same 90s in which Clinton cut $6 billion from military intelligence. That cut the ability to gather information on what bin Laden was planning. It wasn't so much a matter of military might that could have prevented that act.
@USAon3 So you are privy to private information. "...was planned during the 90s" Surely you don't believe that our budget dictated whether or not hostile forces could plan an attack?
Do you realize that many of the operatives were trained right here on American soil (most likely with American tax dollars)?
@USAon3 ...begging ppl to come and apply for food stamps. Seems to me that they have an overabundance of money to give away if they gotta pay for ads to ask ppl to come in and apply. no?
I definitely agree about the loopholes and shelters. The uber rich already get away with so much through those means. Why not let the cuts expire for them; they probably will find ways to get around most of it anyway.
@GrandArchitect3D the govt does not print money. The Federal Reserve Bank prints money and it is not a govt agency. Yes, we lose money. Paper money with nothing to back it up is just paper.
@GrandArchitect3D Actually you didnt listen to what I was saying. This is why we often, as humans, have a lack of understanding. I am talking in the video about letting the tax cuts expire for those making over 250,000 (or more - maybe even 1 million) a year. If they stay as is now, we lose over 600 billion dollars a year in tax revenue.
@GrandArchitect3D You don't seem to know our system at all. What I said to you previously is absolutely true. You CANNOT file as a small business unless you are doing business as a small business. There are many management positions and specialty jobs that pay above 250,000 a year and they are working for a corporation or for a boss. They cannot and do not file as a small business.
Please look this up if you are unfamiliar. Thanks.
@GrandArchitect3D Actually you can't just claim to be a small business because you make a certain amount of money. There's a lot that goes into that and you actually having to be DOING business.
Also, I have a great career that I love and have no complaints.
Amen, sir. ;)

@Gloomshadow1 dream on my friend, dream on. Maybe they should cut this country into 4ths and make it smaller.

How did the govt LOSE Tax revenue? That money isnt thiers..the money belongs to the person that makes it. Those bitches just get what people give them, that money isnt thiers so how are they LOSING anything??
Gloomshadow1 1 year ago

Ever.
USAon3 1 year ago
@USAon3 but if the taxes that we pay are not enough to cover the country's basic service then we need to raise those taxes. A good start in saving some money would be cutting back on the military. That's for sure.
obamamaniacs 1 year ago
@obamamaniacs
USAon3 1 year ago
@USAon3 I hope for sure that you're not making this personal. lol. I'm the last person you would want to call fat and I've been working since I was 11 yrs old.
9/11 happened right here on US soil while the military was at just about full strength (in other countries). Did you know something like 44% of our tax dollars goes toward military spending? It's really a shame.
It's funny that ppl are saying "cut the welfare rolls" when there are daily commercials on the tv and radio basically...
obamamaniacs 1 year ago
@obamamaniacs
General statements, all.
9/11 was planned in the 90s - the same 90s in which Clinton cut $6 billion from military intelligence. That cut the ability to gather information on what bin Laden was planning. It wasn't so much a matter of military might that could have prevented that act.
USAon3 1 year ago
@USAon3 So you are privy to private information. "...was planned during the 90s" Surely you don't believe that our budget dictated whether or not hostile forces could plan an attack?
Do you realize that many of the operatives were trained right here on American soil (most likely with American tax dollars)?
obamamaniacs 1 year ago
@USAon3 ...begging ppl to come and apply for food stamps. Seems to me that they have an overabundance of money to give away if they gotta pay for ads to ask ppl to come in and apply. no?
I definitely agree about the loopholes and shelters. The uber rich already get away with so much through those means. Why not let the cuts expire for them; they probably will find ways to get around most of it anyway.

@GrandArchitect3D the govt does not print money. The Federal Reserve Bank prints money and it is not a govt agency. Yes, we lose money. Paper money with nothing to back it up is just paper.

Very good point!

@TheCreativeJournal I think so. lol. Thanks for stopping by.

@GrandArchitect3D Actually you didnt listen to what I was saying. This is why we often, as humans, have a lack of understanding. I am talking in the video about letting the tax cuts expire for those making over 250,000 (or more - maybe even 1 million) a year. If they stay as is now, we lose over 600 billion dollars a year in tax revenue.
obamamaniacs 1 year ago
@GrandArchitect3D You don't seem to know our system at all. What I said to you previously is absolutely true. You CANNOT file as a small business unless you are doing business as a small business. There are many management positions and specialty jobs that pay above 250,000 a year and they are working for a corporation or for a boss. They cannot and do not file as a small business.
Please look this up if you are unfamiliar. Thanks.
obamamaniacs 1 year ago
@GrandArchitect3D you obviously didnt even watch 1/2 the video when you said this. lol.
obamamaniacs 1 year ago
@GrandArchitect3D Actually you can't just claim to be a small business because you make a certain amount of money. There's a lot that goes into that and you actually having to be DOING business.
Also, I have a great career that I love and have no complaints.
