There are a lot of factors such as pre-existing medical conditions of the driver - which is a major factor in whether a person survives an accident or not regardless of how safe the car.

The other car is a Nissan 240sx coupe from the mid 90's. It's not comparable in size to the older volvo. Stop comparing it to a camry. That would have held up better than the 240. This video is deceiving because the outcome heavily depends on the angle of the impact. It looks like the volvo took a more direct hit to the front and the 240 was more on the corner. Any car made post 2000 of any company is safer than an 80's volvo.

I would ride in a '80's volvo ANY DAY. Japanese and German design will never save lives the volvo has been doing since the 1980's. I wrapped a 1983 volvo 242 into a tree at 35mph and OPENED MY DOOR to get out. I was fine, my passenger was fine. They are the finest cars ever made.

The forces were deflected around the cabin, and the car forced away from the tree. I did a 540 and hit the SAME tree again, just at the B-pillar on the driver's side. The car bent inward only about 3 inches.

The investigation determined that I am alive only because of Volvo's reinforced roof. No other reason.

Besides i too had an accident last year, driving with a Golf IV GTI. I hit the wall, frontalyl at a speed of 120Km/hr & walked out without a scratch... Does that mean my car is safe? Maybe so, but don't forget that you also need to be lucky in an accident, you can't control what's gonna happen next, you don't know where you'll end up. It all happens in a split of a second & seems to take so long at the same time. Any decent car makers respect the safety records, both Volvo & German brands.

I rolled my '98 Volvo S70 on the Highway at over 130km/h, lost control, went into the median, rolled and slid down the road upside down tell I came to stop from hitting the median on the other side of the road.

The luck thing is all but true in the end, I climbed out, walked away and needed all but one stitch, medics took me to hospital and didn't even strap me in, the only reason I even took a ride with them was because I was over 100km from the nearest town.

Width and height are the same for all 740 and 940 models.

Only length differs because of the updated nose and bumpers.

But that's only a few inches...

I have a 740 from 1986 and since 2 weeks ago it has the springs, shocks and brakedisks of a Volvo 940 from 1995 because it fits perfectly...

The engines are the same, doors and front seats, etc... It only differs on details but it fits...

The Volvo seemed to hold up pretty well compared to the Impala. Do you know the ages of the crash victims? I bet the reason the Volvo driver died was because they were older. That's a Volvo 740 late 80s/early 90s model which is a tank at 3,300lbs.
